My dad's favorite store at the Outlets is Johnston & Murphy. Next to Coach, of course. He's a bit of a diva when it comes to shopping. He regularly orders shoes from J&M so for Christmas, he asked if I wanted him to order me a pair, since they have a women's line. I picked out the sweetest pair of brown patent leather and teal velvet saddle shoes, knowing full well that in Buffalo weather they may not be the most practical choice of footwear but damn, were they cool.
When I tried the shoes on (or attempted to, I should say) my damn foot wouldn't even go in. They were so narrow! And my hobbit feet are so not narrow! Got online to see if they carry wide sizes... No dice. My sweet shoes would have to go back from whence they came! :(
Instead of shipping them back, I called the store at the outlets and was told they could return them there. Excellent! I had an Eddie Bauer coupon to use anyway, so I headed out to Niagara Falls!
Since Christmas (and of course since the Great Black Friday Target Credit Card Breach) my parents' cards had in fact been cancelled and reissued (hope you like your $20 San Diego Comic Con Domo Plushie, you hacker douche!) due to being compromised. We had the paperwork that came with the shoes though, so a refund shouldn't have been a problem.
Well... The woman working decided to be difficult. First she asked what we paid for them... Shouldnt you be able to get that information from the paperwork?! Said she had to look it up. Umm, okay... Said she needed the card to issue the refund. Well the card is no longer the card. It's been long gone to the landfill. So she asked if we could call dad and get the number... Dad is in Binghamton for business and probably can't be reached but card no longer exists anyway. Called dad, got a hold of him... For no good reason since then she said "well, I can make the refund work on any card if I want it to..." WTF?! So now I interrupted dad, who thankfully was only mildly perturbed just because this broad was being lazy/difficult.
Thankfully, she worked it out. The cost of the shoes were refunded and re-shelved. And now some narrow 9.5 will be able to buy those sweet shoes on clearance and wear them with glee. They currently have all ladies shoes buy one get one half off. And if you like high quality shoes, butter-like leather, and know how pricy these puppies usually are, you'll know that's a great promo.
The store was fine, which is why I will squeak out 3 stars, and I'm sure quality of service depends on who you are lucky enough to encounter at check out. But considering how narrow the ladies footwear is, how manic the return process was, and how expensive the goods, I probably won't be personally shopping here again. read more
