We had the Indian taco, chicken fried steak, pecan pie, burger, and hot dog lol. Ordered just about the whole restaurant. I was surprised they were able to get the food out so quickly with as much food as we ordered for two people. It was hot, delicious, and we will definitely be going back. I stopped in for lunch at Johnson's Stepping Stone cafe in Bixby a few days ago. I hadn't been there in about a year, so it was definitely time to get back there. I ordered their world-famous chicken fried steak. It was served with mashed potatoes and gravy, and fried okra. It was very tasty! Everything on their menu is fantastic. The service is outstanding. The waitresses really take good care of you here. You get a great meal for a great price. The restaurant is cozy and really has that small town ambiance to it. Everyone is very friendly! If you have never visited the Stepping Stone cafe you have to give it a try. You will not be disappointed! read more

Food was freshly prepared, but lacked flavor. I had the FAMOUS chicken-fried steak with mashed potatoes. The steak breading was crisp and flavorless. It was an effort to cut through the very thin meat with a serrated steak knife. Canned corn was dry and of poor quality. Mashed potatoes were a lukewarm glob of instant potatoes with white gravy that had to be a mix with water added. The side salad was iceberg lettuce with 3 small bits of tomato. Ranch dressing was excellent. I drove over 30 minutes to try this restaurant during the latest part of a weekday lunch rush. Service was efficient for the lunch hour. This is a small neighborhood cafe, that is dated and not as clean as a lot of places, but gives off "back in the days vibes". Even tho it's dated and needs shuffle Ramsey to come in and make it beautiful lol, the food, staff and prices are a win. They make homemade chicken and dumplings, I had the BLT and it was yum! It's $5.39 and comes with chips. YES you read that correctly.... Super affordable. I chose to add in- house made onion rings for an additional $2.99 and they reminded me of the kind my dad use to make. Very pleased with my lunch. I will say they add a $1 fee for a thingy of ranch (ranch was not that good tbh). I didn't know that and probably wouldn't of gotten it. My friend had a hamburger and chose to opt out of the chips that do come with it - instead she got the fries. I tasted her burger and it was very good! BIG sodas. BIG sodaaaaa... They also sale homemade desserts and also peanut brittle. I didn't get any because I was about to POP. Cute little downtown Bixby with a couple cute shops you can walk to as well. Just a tip.... An outstanding café. Friendly attentive service and excellent food, a good variety of diner menu offerings, at bargain prices. I just knew that my wife would order the Indian Taco. I just knew it! Wrong, she went with the Fish Basket, one of today's specials. I followed her lead. A $10.99 value packed basket of food. Crispy coated fries, a school of fresh crusty hot moist catfish filets, great coleslaw, an odd looking, but delicious version of a hush puppy and a cup of perfect tartar sauce. Generous portions. You probably can't eat it all. The ladies serving were constantly checking on customer needs, always greeting with big personable smiles. You will feel like you are a local and a regular customer here. The café is small, still packed with customers at 2:30 when we entered. The Stepping Stone Café knows how to fry fish. read more

I wish I would have taken pictures! Super small, quaint, dining establishment. They were full when we came in but a table and a booth were both cleaned immediately. In between the quick cleaning they were also taking orders and checking on customers. We were promptly greeted and received drinks faster than most places and they had every table full. Our order had was taken quickly and they brought the food out fast! The order was correct, it was a great temperature, and looked good on the plate. We had 1 refill of 1/2 & 1/2 tea and it was the fastest refill we have ever had. I had a chicken strip basket with fries and gravy and a massive dinner roll. It was everything I wanted it to be. Everything was excellent, perfectly cooked and great portion sizes. The chicken was just the right crispy. My husband ordered chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with white gravy, fried okra and a massive roll. He also had the option of soup or salad with his meal. They had several soups to choose from but he chose a salad. It resembled a cafeteria salad but he said these are my favorite salads. The fried okra was also fried to the right amount of crispness and delicious. My husband ordered a slice of pecan pie to go and said it was the best pecan pie. I really wanted a club sandwich ( i looked up where I could order a club sandwich from) and this place popped up. It was really busy, but I eventually went to place an order to go. Again, they were extremely busy and the place was packed, but they eventually did take my order and it came out on time. I ordered the club sandwich with onion rings, and it was really really good. I've been hearing a lot of good things about the food here so my wife and I thought we would place a to-go order. We picked out the breaded chicken dinner with a salad w/ ranch dressing, fries, and fried okra. The food was still hot by the time we got home with it. The salad was kinda basic and boring. Just lettuce and a couple of pieces of diced tomato. The breading on the chicken was really flavorful and crispy. the chicken itself was cooked perfectly. The fries had nice seasoning and were cooked perfectly. The okra had a lot of end pieces in it that we didn't eat but other than that the okra was pretty standard on flavor. We will return and try out one of their other menu items in the future. I would recommend giving this place a try if you happen to be in the area. Hidden away a couple blocks off of Memorial in the old downtown part of Bixby, Steping Stone is the perfect, classic small town diner, from the hand painted advertising on the exterior for Indian Taco Wednesdays and homemade pies, to the well-worn booths and friendly waitstaff who will make you feel at home. I had their jalapeño cheeseburger with a side of onion rings. Both were great. The burger was large (can't imagine how big thier "jumbo" burgers are!), a hand-formed patty, shredded lettuce, and ripe, red tomato slices. Onion rings were cooked just right in a light, crispy batter. And all for around $7! I got a slice of coconut merengue pie for dessert and it was also really good. They are apparently known for their chicken fried steak, which other reviews here mention, and they said their Wed Indian tacos and all-you-can-eat catfish Thursdays are also really popular. My piece of advice is don't come in a big group because it's tiny, and my only complaint is that the bathroom could definitely use some love/upgrades. They used to be SO good! Now that they pre-cook the hamburger patty, it is dry and flavorless. This has been the last two times we have eaten there.
