Passing thru at lunch time and stopped in for a bite. Quite the selection of pastries and sweets. Everything looked amazing. I wanted one of everything it settled on a petite "love bug". Whoever does all of the cake decorations sure is an artist. Ordered the Greek salad with grilled chicken. Great presentation of the salad. The dressing was excellent, just the right amount of spice and flavor. The chicken was a bit chewy but did have a nice flavor.

Ordered a cake for my nephew's bride to be's shower. Jennifer was so helpful! She's so nice! The cake was exactly what I wanted. Received so any compliments from the guests. I was pleasantly surprised at how moist the cake turned out, since it was naked. I also ordered cookies decorated as a bride's dress. They were so pretty and the flavor was delicious. Lastly, I ordered a heart shaped cookie tarte. It exceeded my expectations! It was beautiful. Can't thank Jennifer and staff enough for helping make the shower a success!

Stopped for breakfast and ordered biscuits and gravy, toast, scrambled eggs, and coffee. Coffee was pretty good. Biscuits and gravy and eggs were pretty good. Thick slab of wheat toast made from bakery bread was good. Everything sort of needed salt, though. We also picked up a few peanut butter pupcakes to-go for the pooches. Nice little hometown place. I imagine their lunches are reasonably tasty. Note that the dine-in service, while very friendly and very accommodating, is not like a restaurant. They are still working the bakery and cooking/getting your food in the middle of everything else. Just keep that in mind so you have the right expectation when you eat here and you will enjoy your meal. The staff is hardworking and really nice. On another note, they have a great little selection of locally made aprons, totes, and hot mitts for sale. They would make cool gifts.

    Cream cheese brownie

I ordered from them through Grubhub this morning for delivery. I ordered a grilled cheese panini combo w/ Dr. Pepper, a cream cheese brownie and a peanut butter treat shake. This was the first time I have ordered from them and frankly, I was disappointed. I did love that my order came with old school soda in a glass bottle. That was probably the best part. The panini was fine, nothing special. Just bread, cheese and bacon. Can't go wrong with bacon. The shake was good. I was however, under the impression that it was going to come with the slice of peanut butter pie . It even says on grubhub "treats and sauce on side." I only got the shake. No pie. So for being that I paid $6.25 for a plain pb milkshake. It wasn't that awesome. It was gritty and packed full of cost saving whipped cream. I've had better protein shakes. The cream cheese brownie though was the worst part. When I think of cream cheese brownie I think of a soft brownie with a cream cheese frosting. That's typically what you get. Even at big retail chains. This almost looked like they put a dab of cream cheese on and baked it. And OMG it was soo chocolatey. It was too much. I love both milk choc. and dark choc. brownies but this was straight up gross. I've made better at home. From a box mix. It was hard and a bit stale. Probably was made a few days ago. I hate to be brutal, but if you are a bakery, one of the classic staples along with cake slices and cupcakes is brownies. And this missed the mark completely. Bastrop is a small town and I was glad to see that we had a local family owned bakery, but I think I'd rather get my baked goods at heb when I don't feel like making them myself. Sorry, won't be recommending this to any of my friends or colleagues.

My parents cake with the word "Annivesary". My mom asked for Happy 20th Anniversary, welp I hope they have a good annivesary instead.

Beautiful cake, great service. However didn't spell anniversary right on my parents cake. This should be one of the words used on a cake every once in a while, or should've at least been checked before put on. They're both teachers, so while it'll cause a laugh, it disappoints me that their 20th anniversary will be with a misspelled cake.

I ordered a birthday cake for my triplet sisters' 50th birthdays. I requested a chocolate cake "5" and a white cake "0." The cake was both beautiful and delicious! It was exactly what I ordered, and if I had to choose a favorite, it would be the chocolate.

a birthday cake for a 1 year old

They did my sons 1st birthday cake. It was so cute and tasted absolutely Devine! The cake was moist and not super sweet.

    Lemon 6"

Ordered a standard 6" lemon cake for my sons first birthday. The cake was so moist and delicious, not to mention beautiful. Two weeks later we ordered a carrot sheet cake for my sister's wedding shower. We recently moved from the DFW and these cakes are above par for a bakery. Do NOT waste money on a grocery store cake when you can have a bite of Heaven-on-earth! Will post photos!

They have gluten free options as well as vegan options and options for those who can have gluten. I went there for three out of the six days that I was on vacation in that area. I had originally wanted a chocolate chip cookie, but they didn't do just regular gluten free ones. However they did have gluten free peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. I'm not a big fan of peanut butter, but I thought I would try it since I was really craving a cookie. I had just the one, and it was so so so good! It didn't taste overly of peanut butter which was a win for me! It had just the right amount of peanut butter and chocolate chips. It was crispy around the edges and chewy towards the middle. I went back that same day and got two more of those cookies. The other days I went I got the same thing. One day, I did try their gluten free apple butter bar which was just as amazing! Service was fantastic! Each day I went, there was someone I hadn't seen before working. Each of them were super nice and friendly. The bakery itself had a very calm ambiance about it. It had a lot of space inside if you wanted to eat your meal or dessert inside or you could get it to go. I also love how Tough Cookie Bakery supports the LGBTQ+ community. There was a pride flag painted outside of the bakery, and that just made me love the place that much more! I would definitely recommend Tough Cookie Bakery in Bastrop. I can't wait to go back once we're back in the area at the end of this month.

The only letdown was finding out that the ice cream isn't homemade or unique to the shop--it's just Blue Bell. Now, as a lifelong Blue Bell fan, I'll never turn it down, but with a place that has so much originality and character, we were hoping for a menu that reflected that same spirit. Still, it's a cute spot and worth a visit for the atmosphere alone.

That's fine because it allowed us a bit of time to check out downtown Bastrop. Once seated, service was American cafe classic. Very friendly and full of memorabilia on the walls and decore. The evening cleaning crew left us an upside down dead . . . Yup, you guessed it. We told the server, they might want to clean it up before seating the next guest at that table. Rule of restaurant opening is to sweep before the doors are opened. We will probably be back because it's still a great place for breakfast. CritDicks

During that time, Coffee Dog was reliable, welcoming, and worth recommending. Unfortunately, under new ownership, that is no longer the case. This morning was the final straw. I placed my order and waited over 30 minutes, only to receive absolutely nothing. After my order was taken, I reasonably assumed it was being prepared. Instead, a different employee later came to the window and asked what I had ordered as if no record or communication existed at all. At that point, I asked for a refund. What followed was a frustrating and unnecessary ordeal. The so-called manager came to the window and began explaining how long a sandwich takes to make despite the fact that I did not order a sandwich. The manager clearly did not understand the situation, continued wasting my time, and failed to listen after I had already made it clear that I just wanted a refund since my order was never made. Even processing the refund became a struggle. This is not an isolated incident. On several prior visits, they've been under-supplied, out of basic items, or dealing with non-functioning machines issues that are frankly unacceptable for a business that calls itself a coffee shop. The lack of organization and accountability is astounding. One of our clients regularly purchased gift cards from Coffee Dog for us, but after this experience, I will be telling him not to return. Mr. Hodges, save your money this place is no longer worth it. It's incredibly sad to see how far this business has fallen. I supported Coffee Dog for the longest time, but I am officially done. I will not be returning, and I will not be recommending this place to anyone. Future customers should be aware: this business is not the same under new ownership.
