Since then, I've become a loyal regular, drawn back time and again by the magic of this hidden gem. Perfect spot to take a drive and meet a friend. This place has THE best coffee. Rich, robust, fresh. The staff is always on point and it is great to see this place thriving. They offer some yummy treats as well as sandwiches. You can also sign up for their reward program and earn points every time you come in. There is music on Saturdays and just a great meet up spot. The down side is the seating, backless stools are not the most comfortable. I saw someone on crutches that had a hard time getting up on one. Maybe it is to stop people from staying all day and working? I am not sure. There used to be a couch in there and that was nice to just sit and visit. There is also an outdoor area with picnic tables and chairs outside at tables (with backs on them!) They roast their own beans and every time I have had a coffee it was perfect. I stop here on the way to Austin from Houston and I left super and right when I needed them I saw the billboard. Twas like looking for water in the desert. The bathrooms were clean, the service was fast, and I mean for a place basically in the desert it had good seating. They have a roaster attached so I bought a bag of beans to support. This place was lovely, the employees are so nice and the selection of food and drinks is quite decent. We stopped here on the way to Austin. Drove here a long with 2 friends on route to Houston for brunch. Caprese - fresh, flavorful and rich in ingredients. Pesto is extremely creamy and will definitely satisfy the belly. Turkey - generous portions of turkey meat. The turkey was succulent and the flavor blended well with the rest of the ingredients. The multiple flavors did not overpower the overall taste of the sandwich. Coffee was also on point. We love visiting local coffee shops and not the run of the mill Starbucks. I've seen this place on my drive to Austin multiple times and I decided to stop this time around. A cute and very aesthetic coffee shop. There was only one staff member taking orders and making the coffee but orders were taken pretty quickly. There's a big selection of baked goods and sandwiches too! The latte I got was super strong so if you like the taste of a dark roast that's not muddled with syrups and sweeteners this is the drink for you. During my journey back to Austin, I made a pit stop at this quaint shop, complete with an in-house roaster. Intrigued, I decided to browse their selection of whole beans. I found the scone to be decent, with a generous amount of fruit baked in. In the end, I purchased 2.2 lbs of whole beans, as they didn't offer smaller bags, which is a big miss for me. At $25 for 2.2 lbs, it seemed like a reasonable deal. Parking lot is small and shared with other local business. Staff was nice and friendly as well. read more

Awesome coffee shop with good coffee. Also loved their bagels. Their plain bagels were delicious. We shared one with a pre-made lox spread that was really tasty. The inside is spacious and pleasant. The outside has a variety of plants with labels, if you're into plant identification. Cool! Some lady let her dog pee on one -- not cool. They also had some nice merch for sale -- I liked their mug designs. My one tiny disappointment was the lack of smoothie options. I asked and was told it was either mango or strawberry/banana. When I asked if I could combine those flavors, I was told no. I'm assuming they're pre-made in some way. Wish they had options with more fruit variety or the ability to customize. I have been buying coffee from here for a while. I have not had a problem until this last time I ordered. Customer service was non existent. Jeff was not listening and the shipping manager never did what he said. I called on Friday to make sure before I ordered online that 1. They were open 2. That it would promptly be shipped. They told me to order online and they would call me as soon as it popped up and let me know approximately when it would be arriving. NO Call or follow up. I did finally get email with shipping number and checked it on Tuesday. Still hasn't been shipped. Shipping manager and Jeff made no apologies or compensations. Just accusations that "I" WAS AT FAULT. I CAlled at 10am on Friday plenty of time to get shipped. I asked for refund and confirmation on my email that it was refunded. Never came. Jeff tried to look up order but said I had never ordered from there and said I had wrong place. I have ordered ther every month for over a year maybe longer. Jeff talked over me the whole time, never listened and speculated every word out of his mouth. I asked if they had new owners because the customer service was so bad now. He said no. Ive been in customer service for 40 + years. This is not the way you treat your customers and I will never order from this company again. ​ read more

A quaint little coffee shop on a busy highway. The service was quick and they even had samples of their brown butter Rice Krispies If you like your drink on the sweeter side ask for that! I typically like my drinks sweeter but don't ask because normally latte are already pretty sweet. My friend asked for sweeter and hers was perfect for me. Oops! Learned my lesson. Locally owned. Locally roasted, and if they could the coffee would be locally grown!! It may not be in a typical location like a strip mall or occupying space at an historic building, but it's just right outside of town on Highway 71 convenient to those out at the state park, or where coffee travelers see Texas Coffee Works like an oasis out in the desert. I was thoroughly impressed with how smooth the coffee was, and the two frappes I ordered got rave reviews, too. It was a busy Sunday afternoon but both workers were busy taking orders and preparing drinks. They didn't skip a beat and I got my order on a timely fashion. I had to give this place a three star because we got there about an hour before closing. I was hoping for some cookies but their display case was empty. We ordered some cold drinks and the last coffee cake muffins. There was only one table to sit at and three woman were there and not going anywhere. Toward the back there is a seating area but a gentleman was there working in his computer. The server was very nice and very accommodating. This place is a veritable oasis in the desert. There are verifiably no good bakeries or patisseries of even reasonable quality in a 28 mile radius of downtown Bastrop. To find a place with inventive and excellent bakers so that the assortment of fine pastries of truly French discriminations of tastes and textures and not substituting sugar for taste is like manna from heaven in this pastry desert. The owners and staff are inventive too about musical events, hours of operation and atmosphere. We have in a few months made coffee place friends with several other customers. I have lived in NYC, Athens, London, Berlin, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Sweden (Uppsala, Stockholm), Salzburg and Vienna for weeks and months at a time. It's 32° outside and my friend and I made our way to this quaint gem on the outskirts of Bastrop proper. I ogled the snack offerings when the bagels took my attention. When asked which cheese I'd prefer I inquired "which is your favorite?". There was no hesitation to assure me the veggie cream cheese was very good and this was quite correct. The combo knocked my socks off and it complimented my delicious cold brew. I immediately walked over and gave the young lady a solid fist bump of approval. Great coffee (i buy a bag of beans periodically), but I have to give two stars as I am grossed out by the food handling. The girl cut my bagel with no gloves on after playing on her cell phone (that she pulled from her butt pocket) while it was slow. Her whole unwashed thumb (nail and all) went into my bagel as she had a tough time cutting it and then manhandled it to put cream cheese on it after it was toasted. i was grossed out and asked "you didnt wash your hands after playing on your contaminated cell phone...can you not use gloves?"... she got up in arms with me. I just threw the bagel away. Post-COVID era this shouldn't have needed to be an educational moment. If you sell food, you glove up or wash up. Period. Sadly, it was not a one-off situation as I went back and the main manager did it too. Anything can be under someone's fingernails. it takes 2 seconds to put on gloves when you switch from coffee to food....or maybe if the bagels weren't so tough you could cut them with a knife and use tongs? Cute decor. Good wifi. However, I also have a problem with their stools that are only made for skinny people. If the one couch isn't available, thick men and women have to tough out a one-butt cheek stool, or stand. SUPER UNCONFORTABLE. Maybe that is the point so people don't stay too long? Coffee is great but skip the comida. and don't plan on staying too long if you have a little extra on the hips. read more

This morning I stopped by to get my coffee and bagel I saw they had a new menu item of a croissant wanted to try I saw a green one that had pistachios on it and didn't have no name so I thought it was just pistachio filling Went to check out and baristas seemed very in a rush , just put the croissant on the box that they put in and close never once did I open the box Once I saw the croissant was mixed with matcha on the receipt I asked to get it replaced by the chocolate , I have never experience such horrible customer service saying yes they will change it But go around talk to the other baristas and start talking mess about it in-front of my self and other customers that was so embarrassing . Imagine what the other customers were thinking hearing them talking bad about a customer . Please have more respect for you're customers and manners read more

Let's start with the good. The espresso is excellent. The fresh roasted beans haven't had a lot of time to off-gas and it produces a rugged crema. Good espresso is the lifeblood of a coffee shop. Nicely done. And the atmosphere is great. Friendly staff are warm and welcoming. Good decor though a bit hard to lounge. Some softer furniture amid the industrial stuff would be helpful. Only offering one bean for your espresso is a bit problematic. You might want to get another grinder and offer some variety. That is, continuing offering "Thunderbolt" and add one other bean on a rotating basis. This would let customers try different blends. It would be worth checking out Hound's Tooth in Austin. They offer a "two-fer" for $5 and rotate through the offerings. And their coffee is the best I've ever found, ever. And while we are talking about beans, consider telling us what we are buying. The signature blend names are cute but I'd appreciate more regional offerings. E.g.: some Ethiopian Yirgacheffes. Like your Colombian and Papau New Guinea. A sampler pack of beans would be great. Five pounds. Mixed blends in 1 lb. packs. Jumping in for 2 pounds untested isn't great. And finally, the pastries. Guys, I'm afraid they are literally too sweet to eat. This is a big deal for some of your customers. I'm not sure if you think you are appealing to a country clientele or it's simply a matter of switching to a new (better) bakery. There are lots of savory options for a coffee shop. If you ever get the chance, drop by Grinder's Coffee in Houston. Excellent pastries. Spinach cheese croissants, mushroom cheese, caramelized onion and goat cheese, etc. And maybe some sandwiches. You get the idea. (Edit-maybe you do have more offerings and I'm just too late to see them in the case.) Bottom line-Great place. Highly recommended. read more
