God why didn't we yelp these guys sooner? Initial impressions were good; they inspected the pool on a house we bought on the referral of our real estate agent. Personable guy gave good advice and a good assessment for the real estate transaction, and my wife and I felt like they were a good fit for us since we didn't know much about pools and this one needed a steady hand to bring the equipment into this century. A We signed up for the monthly service and bought a sweep which they put in and it worked great. Seemed a little pricey, but hey we needed it right? B After a month or so, we decided to add a heater so we could use a spa...the price was expensive but we knew we needed it and just figured thats what things cost. We contracted with them to put in the heater. Then during the install, they contacted us and told us that the filter had failed so now we had to add a new filter too. This added a significant amount to an already high number and we had the nerve to do an equipment search online to see what this stuff cost. Then we asked if we could get a break since we hadn't counted on that extra expense. Nah. Not happening. D So we get up there after the install of the new filter system and the guy calls my wife while she's at a client meeting and tells her that its all in and good to go. She explains she can't talk can he please write down the instructions. Didnt' seem like a lot to ask after $8k, so we get up there that night and find his hand written instructions. D She is following those brilliant instructions and they aren't working; she calls the company to double check the instructions, she's told they are gone for the weekend...damn, no spa for super bowl...bummer. F Emails were lobbed back and forth that weekend to try to salvedge it and they basically said they would only come out the during M-F working hours...even though we aren't there except weekends and they knew that ...F So we hire another guy (who we found on Yelp) who comes out and goes over all of it with us step by step and points out that those brilliant instructions left off a key step. And that the valve that basically controls the heating is completely shot. So obviously they never even tested the freaking equipment. Fantastic. F Oh yeah, forgot our Invoice for all the work was in the mailbox before the equipment was even installed. A for that. We just really wish we had checked Yelp earlier...sounds like others had the same shite service we got. We found a great guy on Yelp who is doing it all so much more reasonable and has fixed all the stuff that Johnson missed. read more

The fact that these guys could design, permit, demolish existing pool, dig expanded pool, gunite, plaster and fill all within 12 weeks when 3 of them were filled with rain is amazing. They worked very well with two other fantastic contractors (Scott Anderson Landscapes) and the hardscape contractor (Tom Snyder of Snyder Construction) to create a fantastic space. When I had questions during the process Aaron answered them, even on the weekends. In terms of pricing and add-ons, I honestly felt Johnson (Aaron) were extremely fair. I checked with other pool contractors prior to starting the job (one of them never even called me back) and Johnson was the most responsive and fairly priced. During construction a few issues arose and Aaron took care of them without hesitation and again, fairly priced. I've read the reviews about ongoing service, so the jury is out on this aspect. Looked up the price online and they charged me 2x what I would have paid if I ordered in Amazon. We just bought a house with a pool and the pool guy showed up once and is now MIA. I went to Leslie's Pool Supplies and they had terrible customer service so I came here. What a difference! Our family had Johnson Pool build our pool over 13 years ago and we've been using their services every since then to maintain and repair it. They also service a separate Sundance Spa. There is a difference between the weekly pool tech and the more experienced service people who do repairs and upgrades. (I read the other reviews here.) The techs do change about once a year and there is often a learning curve as they get to know what you want them to do and as they learn the ropes. The service manager is very responsive if you have feedback or complaints. The techs themselves are always very friendly and eager. Overtime, pool parts and pumps and filters wear out, heaters blow, etc. Johnson Pool always keeps close track of the warranties and to ensure we aren't paying for faulty parts. The repair department is great. They also, thank goodness, they took and saved photos (from before the days of smartphones) and dug them up when we had a line break under the pool. It really helped the leak expert backhoe guy find the problem pipe (and, by the way, they suggested the leak expert who was excellent). Things do go wrong - in the drought times our well water became more metallic/minerally, turning our water green. They suggested a special filter for the pool filler water line that has worked like a charm. Over the years, once in awhile a fixed pipe or part has not stayed fixed and they always come out and address it (they always believe us!). We also now have them maintaining on a second pool & spa for a rental and we're glad we choose them. There are smaller outfits and single individuals who do pools but what's nice for us is that Johnson is big enough to handle all kinds of issues and equipment, from sophisticated to basic. Pools are fussy and things are going to go wrong at the worst times and its hard to be patient but I'm glad we've continued on with this company. If I had one magic wish, it would be that they had an emergency weekend tech on call. I'd pay a higher amount for emergency help when we're having a weekend pool party and something is awry. read more

Horrible. Pool/Spa service in Sonoma County. I've been with them for a few years now. I've had ups and downs, but mostly downs. No one in their office talks to each other. Things don't match up on my bill. I call, they realize it was a mistake. They change pool/spa techs so often, I don't feel comfortable giving them a key. So I make sure I'm home to let them into my backyard. Worse part? They've messed up my spa FOUR times. I use bromine exclusively in my spa. Almost every time a new tech comes on, they pour in liquid chlorine and it's a chemical disaster. Just today, I opened my spa and was greeted with such a chemical vapor, that my eyes started watering and I started to cough uncontrollable. Do yourself a favor, and find someone else. read more

The service manager with whom we have dealt is Brady and he is pleasant, professional, and gets us on their schedule as promptly as possible. I needed a spa part to fix a leak so I called into the shop to see if it was in stock. Dan Murray answered the call and knew what part I needed from my description (without a part number). My customer experience was great up until this point but it's not why I'm writing this review. Before I left the shop I had mentioned that I might need more drain plugs down the road as it's a common part to replace... Without asking, Dan sent me a follow up email with a part number so that I could order the parts online or through the shop in the future. We've had the gentlemen at Johnsons Pools to our home on a few occasions now. Each time they did exactly what they said they were going to do and handled everything professionally. In the beginning we got bids on the work and Johnsons was always competitive. Now, It is obvious to us that they are the real thing; fair and committed to doing good business and I honestly don't see a need to bid out my pool work anymore. For example: the recent service we had done was a pool light repair. The competitor, over the phone, insisted that I had to replace the whole unit for a price of about $1300. I honestly was going to do it until the competitor told us that we had to drain our pool for this service which was false. Johnsons sent out one of their technicians at no charge to check and informed me that he could first attempt to change the bulb for about $160 before he went so far as to do the entire unit. He was honest and we paid the $160. He did the repair on 1/2 hr. So don't worry about going to the competitors. These guys are it. read more

At the close of escrow the pool vacuum was now missing ( I am not implying they took it) but when I called x2 and came into the store in person to inquire about the missing vacuum and possibly continuing pool service I was put off and never called back. Several months ago I had Johnson Pools repair a Jandy system I purchased four years ago from a different vendor. Brian the technician quickly resolved a problem I was plagued with for three years. Two months later we contracted with Johnson's to resurface our swimming pool. The staff was great to work with and the quality of work was everything we could have hoped for. Helpful and knowledgeable sales staff marred by hopeless service and repair operations. About two years ago, I replaced my pool pump, installed a solar heating system, and bought a high-end spa from Johnson Pool. The sales staff were great and the installation painless. But later when I started to have problems with my pool and spa and needed repair services I found the service very poor and slow. It has taken me three issues to recognize the pattern and today I'm finally taking my business elsewhere. Guess I should have checked on Yelp first looking at the other reviews .... poor service and repair seems to be a recurring issue! 1. Spa with faulty O ring - Five months to fix After a few months I noticed one of the O rings around a spa control had come loose and was open - potentially letting water inside of the workings of the spa. Given that I have small kids using the spa all the time I wanted it fixed asap as a potential safety issue. I mentioned the issue to the regular service person twice, then I emailed photos of the issue to the service person in the main office, then I waited and waited and finally five months later the problem was fixed under warranty. 2. Ripped Pool Cover - Poor assistance provided Our aging pool cover sprang a leak. I mentioned this several times to various people and eventually got one of the repair people to come out and take a look at it. The long and upshot was the problem couldn't be repaired with a patch. So I needed to get a specialist pool cover company to help. So I was provided a 1-800 national number for some pool cover company, which then provided me with a CA contact who didn't call me back. With some internet sleuthing I managed to track down a local company that could do the work but I had to wonder why Johnson Pool hadn't just given me this number in the first place. Not very helpful - numerous wasted hours of effort on my part and a pool cover that has leaked lots of water which has had to be pumped off the cover - water which I have had to pay for... 3. Malfunctioning Solar Controller - little support provided, problem likely caused by service person in first place Three weeks ago I noticed that the controller for our solar heating system wasn't functioning properly. Knowing that we were going to use the pool a lot over the July 4 week, I asked our service person to check out the system and make sure there were no issues. I was told everything was fine. So I go to the controller July 4 week and errors are clearly evident on the front panel of the controller that was supposedly looked at two days before. So I call and ask if someone could come out a sort out the problem since we really wanted to use the pool and it was too cold to without the solar heater. I was told they "might" be able to get someone out to look in a week. So I looked into the problem myself and discovered that a water temperature sensor was broken which tends to occur if the pool Ph has deviated significantly from the ideal. And then I remembered that a few weeks ago our pool was left a cloudy white by the service person and the water didn't clear for at least three days - which makes me wonder if the problem was caused by him in the first place. Numerous further calls for help were not returned. So long and short of it is, if you want a relationship with the company selling you pool and spa equipment don't use Johnson Pool and Spa. read more

I had a pool solar system that was in need of repair - actually replacement of some of my panels. I called for an appointment to discuss the need with the Johnson folks and got a quick response. Someone came to the house, looked at my existing system and gave me an estimate. They did the installation on time, as promised. The men who did the work were very polite and respectful. Ryan was great about keeping me informed about what they were doing and showed me how to work the system, then shut it down for the winter. In Spring, it was easy to set up an appt to open the system for the season. Unfortunately, I had a leak from some of my previous equipment and with one phone call, they were here and fixed the situation with same courtesy and support as before. I learned my system had sustained more damage than thought during the fires of 2017 and the results were starting to show up. Another call when another leak cropped up and again, a quick response, explanation and support. Then, an old clamp broke and all H... broke loose. I was in a panic as water was gushing and the water level in the pool was dropping. I made a phone call after hours and left a message, turned off my system and my pump and left early in the morning. I returned home in the early afternoon and there was Ryan in my driveway! Then I found an email Brady had sent me at 6:30 a.m. saying he'd get someone out here ASAP that day. Ryan explained what caused the big leak, and what he had done to evaluate the whole system and how he tested other parts that could break and determined all else was safe. He had turned the system back on and reset my pump timer and all is now working very well. Brady, the manager in the service dept, has been so patient with me, so nice and so helpful with all of my needs from the beginning when we set up the first appointment. Ryan has been very helpful when he has come out to provide service and another young man, whose name I'm sorry to say I can't remember right now has also been very helpful. They all seem very competent and hard working. Great group and I highly recommend working with them. I'm sure there is more to say about these great folks but I'm already being long-winded! read more

Terrible customer service. I was informed today that it is not worth their time to meet with our client to discuss a proposal on a new saltwater pool. Matt (one of the owners) informed me that it's a waste of time to personally come out and meet with a new client until they are sure they want to install the pool. Instead, he said he would give general figures over the phone. Total BS. We are going to refer our client to a different company. As a family owned business, I would expect a slightly higher level of customer care and/or service. In the future, we will be taking our referrals elsewhere. Is it possible to give a business no stars? We have been using Johnson Pool & Spa to care for our pool for years. And we have stuck with them out of complacency & Laziness. But this year is the final straw. The technician comes to our house every week. Yes, sometimes I see him arrive and depart. Yet the pool is always in terrible condition when we go to use it. (1) They failed to salt our pool in preparation for summer use (2) They kept returning our broken pool sweep to us, insisting it had been repaired. It wasn't. Not only did the sweep fail to move in the water but also you heard loose rattling pieces when you shook the sweep! After 5 "fix" attempts, we bought a new sweep. By the way, Johnson tried to up-sell us on the same sweep we could get for significantly less money (& FASTER) on Amazon. Embarrassed about being called out, they matched the Amazon price. (3) Our pool was icky-cloudy for weeks. They blamed it on the broken sweep. OK, so what do they do every week, when they show up in the Johnson van? And why are we paying them? (4) Pool is finally clear (yeah!) . New pool sweep (!) Now the hot tub heater is broken the day of our big summer swim party. It should be in good working order- since the technician is here every week, presumably checking our pool, ensuring that everything is in good working order. If anyone can suggest a different company for pool maintenance, I am in the market, looking and ready to make the change. read more

Johnson Pool & Supply has far exceeded our expectations! We have a Trager grill, which we use ALL the time, and Johnson's is our go to place when we need to get more pellets. We called Johnson's and they not only had what we needed in stock, but they had a service in our area the next day and they delivered them to us for FREE! They have an amazing show room with everything from pools, spas, and outdoor kitchens to swim suits, toys and other great outdoor items. We have an outdoor picnic set from there and we get complements on it all the time! I would highly recommend Johnson Pool and Spa, they have been in the business for many years and it shows in their industry knowledge and genuine kindness in working with their customers! Johnson Pool and Spa installed a new custom pool and Spa on my property, 3 years ago. The spa water jets work fine but I could create more air bubbles blowing thru a straw than this custom spa provides. Further, after a number of visits for consultation and repair solutions, i was told that they are sorry but short of adding a noisy blower a few feet away from the spa,which i would also have to pay for, they are unable to get any more air to come out, probably due to a broken air pipe during their construction process, that they didn't test. Final verdict: no refund, no rebate on future pool and spa service, just a big: "sorry, but these things happen". read more

Nothing too major but we wanted Johnson Pool to take a look. 1. Our regular service guy from Johnson Pool is Michael and he has been doing an outstanding job!! Friendly, courteous, diligent and most importantly my pool looks great. 2. Chuck & Brady in Service have always been very helpful and quick to respond to any issues. They are true professionals. 3. Ryan (Service Tech?) came out to troubleshoot a pump issue last week and within 5 minutes had it resolved. Quick, knowledgeable and a nice guy. Bottom line, it is easy for a business to get a 5 star review when everything goes smoothly. It is much more difficult to receive 5 stars when problems arise (even if it is through no fault of the company). We had a new pool installed 7 years ago. I am on my fourth company to maintain the pool's chemical balance, clean it and provide service when there are issues with the equipment. Johnson's is the only company I would recommend to friends. From my experience a lot of pool maintenance companies are individuals that might have a helper or two. That alway creates problems as if the person running it has life issues (we all do) coverage for the pool is interrupted without a backdrop to solve. It is particularly true when there are problems with the equipment. I've noticed that many maintenance companies have someone they call in for equipment fixes but that often makes for a long wait for service. Johnson has been the best company I've worked with as they have the coverage for both pool maintenance and solving thorny equipment issues too They are very organized and efficient and respond quickly to requests for repairs. We have a guest rental and having that quick response is critical to keeping guests happy. read more

After shopping around for around for a new variable speed pool pump, I decided to go with Johnson. The service manager, Jason "Oggie" Ogston, proposed a solution that the other vendors did not - a Jandy PDA/Aqualink RS and a Pentair Intelliflow. When I did my research on the Jandy controls and saw how much easier it would be to operate my pool (completely done via wireless remote), and not only my filter pump but my booster and pool light, I was sold. It wasn't the cheapest solution but I felt it offered a good value, especially since it will accept a solar heater down the road. The installation crew was prompt, courteous and professional and they took enough time to review the new system functions with me. Their work was clean and very professional. I have had some bad experiences with other pool companies in the area but I would definitely do business with Johnson Pool and Spa again and would recommend them. read more

Johnson Pools just finished the construction of our custom pool and spa. We worked with Matt initially who designed our pool. Aaron was responsible for construction. They performed fabulous work. They were excellent in their communication. If any issues arose they were quick to remedy them. The pool is flush with our raised deck. It has all the modern amenities including powered pool safety cover, LED lights, remote control and monitoring from our phones, automatic pool sweep, and solar thermal heating? From the actual quality of construction to customer service and follow-up nothing is first rate with this company. I would give them negative stars if I could!! Once you sign the contract with these people and give them a down payment that is the last you will see of them. They contract it all out and they move veeerrrrryyyy slow. We were supposedly a high priority job and it took 4 months for a remodel....not a new pool. Very disappointed in the whole process since we found that with no onewas supervising the job and a mistake was made and we now have to live with it. Please try someone else for your own sake....or write in the contract that Johnson Pool and spa will come down to your site AT LEAST once a week and make sure things are being done right. read more

These people were hired to do a total pool remodel as part of a partial landscape project. They were unprofessional, unorganized and incompetent. They ruined my lawn, cut all the power supply to my re-done landscaping (during the hottest week of the summer), failed to identify much less remedy a leak for 1 and 1/2 months!! And argued with me about their responsibility for these errors. They were constantly looking for someone else to blame their construction problems (i.e., their subs or my landscapers). And they did not step up to the plate when I had additional costs due to their incompetence. Look elsewhere for this kind of construction. read more

Very disappointed with Johnson's. The problems have gotten worse as the summer has gone on. From running the pump 24 hrs. a day to asking me to find a needed part for the timer, they have let us down big time. Their customer service is lacking. Their excuses have been continuous. Our pool now is a milky green color with lost heat due to the system being set to run from 10am-12noon. On top of that the timer for the pump is missing a part and was not even going on. My phone calls have not been returned.....We have now switched to a new pool service. read more
