Hands down the worst food we were ever served in a restaurant! 1st and last time we will visit. Appetizer: Fried Zucchini - a soggy mess! Yet burnt as well. Obviously dropped into the fryer before the oil was hot enough. End result = greasy & soggy mess. Soup had ZERO FLAVOR. No salt, pepper or flavor of any kind! The garlic olive oil pasta dish was FLOATING in a 1 inch deep bed of olive oil. No garlic. No flavor. Just greasy olive oil and pasta. Served cold. The garlic bread served on the side, burnt to a crisp. No garlic or butter. Just burnt croutons! Beef Sandwich: Not Enough meat on the sandwich to even fill half of the roll. And the side of AuJus tasted like water. Yep, brown water! Again, no flavor or spices. Ordered some potatoes to take home for a family member. They were floating in oil. Tossed directly in the garbage when we got home. Honestly, my husband can always find something he liked about a meal.... until now. The service was sub-par. Restaurant was empty. (Now we know why) The best thing about the entire experience was leaving. Truly the worst $50 we've ever spent. Sorry if this sounds harsh and blundt. But the food was honestly that bad. My wife and I decided to try this place. We showed up a little after 3:00 pm. We were the only ones in the restaurant. We waited 45 minutes for the Italian beef sandwich and a 8inch pizza. The Italian beef sandwich was disgusting, some parts of the beef was ice cold while other parts were hot and the sandwich was dry. The pizza sauce had no flavor. Don't waste your time. read more

This pizza was just plain awful. Zero taste. The crust was thin and not very tasteful, I would be exaggerating if I said there was a single brush of sauce on the pizza. I mean we were wondering if they forgot because we couldn't taste anything. Don't worry about the pizza being greasy because there was barely any cheese. I mean we saw parts of the center crust from the top of the pizza. The crumbled sausage was boring and the only thing that gave it any flavor was the spices which covered the pizza. To top it off they are too cheap to put it in a box so your paper wrapped pizza has cooled off by the time you get it home because they don't have any way to keep it warm while sitting there. The kids working there could careless about their jobs and weren't friendly or appreciative when I gave them a tip when picking up. Go somewhere else and hopefully they will just close. read more

I really wanted to love John's. Really, really. My dad loves this place. It's thisclose to my house. It's won some local awards. A great, local, pizza place? A forever win in my book. Unfortunately, John's isn't going to be this place. The first time we tried John's we ordered the Four Cheese pizza. It was...meh. Bland. Soggy. Greasy. My daughter looked at me with a bit of suspicion, "I thought this place was well-reviewed on Yelp? Are we at the right place? Did you get lost again?" (I admittedly, can get lost in my own neighborhood). Alas, we were not lost. Just disappointed. And still hungry since we didn't even finish our pizza. The next time we tried John's we ordered the Vegetarian pizza. Again with the flimsy, soggy pizza. What's up with that? I don't know. We asked our waitress about it and she informed us that "their pizza is good and everyone else says so." Oh, okay. The real distaste was the pizza itself. Probably the worst pizza we have ever had. Ground sausage and a lack-luster crust left us wishing we had a frozen one for a back-up. We have gone to John's for years and unfortunately seen a gradual but steady decline. Went this past week for pizza and had mixed feelings by the end of dinner. Pizza crust was crisp and thin (yum!) but toppings were hit and miss and we waited over 45 minutes at the table for the pizza. I ordered a dinner salad extra since I was starving and we had no indication when the pizza might be coming from the generally-absent waitress. More on that momentarily. The salad, for which I waited a good 15 minutes, was very small. Do love their creamy garlic dressing and the fresh zucchini blended with the greens, but that was NOT a $3.95 salad! Server failed to add the salad to the bill, and when I pointed out that I owed her for that she became flustered. I used to live in Indiana, and frequented John's for many years before moving to Maryland. Now, whenever I visit home, I always make it a point to go to John's AT LEAST once, if not more times! I MUST have the Chicken Michael Luke when I visit, and if I could, I'd go back for the pizza (try the Nico Special!), the perch, the vesuvio (they don't make vesuvio on the East Coast... What's up with that??), the stuffed shrimp, the white clams pasta, etc... What can I say, there are too many decisions! One thing I truly love about John's is that when I walk in, I'm always greeted with a warm smile, and many of the employees still remember me, even 7 years after I moved away! The waitstaff is friendly and efficient, they know the menu, and my order is ALWAYS correct. The management team also remember me, and they often stop by for a chat. I would encourage the owners to branch out into Maryland, as we certainly do not have a single pizzeria that can hold a candle to John's! read more

What can I say! I've watched this place slowly decline. I used to love going to John's in Calumet City. When I moved to Schererville and found out there was a Johns in Dyer I was thrilled, I would order often or meet people there. Slowly a couple of years ago I started to notice a change. At first I thought I got a fluke or maybe a new employee. So I tried again , still lacking that original pizza. Well I stopped ordering them. Today I thought, try it again. It is even WORDE then before. Look at my photo's. All brown and lacking cheese. These pizzas used to be white with a lot of cheese. Now it's more discuss then the frozen pizzas you buy at the store. Terrible service and food. My date order a long island ice tea. Waitress Said tea machine was being changed. We told her there was no tea in it. She brought out an iced tea. Ordered baked clams, got clams with red sauce cheese and a slice of Canadian bacon on top to hide old fishy taste. The appetizer served after soup and waitress forgot our salads and a second beer. Last night we went to John's for Heart Shape Pizza. It's been a family tradition for the last 8 years and it was the worst experience ever. We waited at least 90 minutes for a pizza that came out wrong. We ended up waiting another 30 minutes for a heart shaped pizza that they charged us for as well. The service is not what it use to be and no one seemed to be around that was leading their staff. I'm surprised that the ownership allows what went on last night. read more

We had always had great experiences with John's and they had great food but we haven't gone there in years. Something has clearly happened in that time. We've moved so we called to order delivery from the Griffith location which is slightly closer to our new home in Highland and was told that the items we wanted (we looked up the menu online and nowhere is it indicated that any of the items are location-specific) were not available there. My husband called the Dyer location and specifically asked if they would deliver to us and we were told that they would. He proceeded with our order and we settled down to wait for our dinner. About 5-10 minutes later they called back and said that they would not, in fact, deliver to us, despite my husband giving our address THREE TIMES and confirming that they would deliver before giving our order. Then he was informed that he could come pick up the food as they had ALREADY CHARGED OUR CARD. We are livid. I cannot believe that despite confirming that they would deliver to us, they have decided that it would now "tie up their drivers" even though we are literally five miles away. Not five miles out of their delivery area but five miles away. I also cannot believe that they charged our card. That is unprofessional beyond tolerance. We will not be patronizing John's EVER again. Either location. And we will certainly be telling all of our friends, family, and acquaintances to avoid them as well. If they had told us prior to our order that they could not deliver to us, I would have understood. I may even have understood had they called back to tell us they couldn't deliver after all. But to have charged our card is unforgivable. We called our bank and the money had already been debited! We have to wait for a refund of over $50 so it is more than a matter of just voiding the bill. That is unconscionable. That is fraud. I reported it to my bank and will be reporting this to the BBB as well. read more

Oh my. Wanted to try this place because my daughter lives in Dyer. All I can say is please try another place. We ordered a thin crust and it was over 1/2 in of dough. Cheese had barely covered to pizza. Kinda sad. With all the competition of pizzas in the area. I am surprised this place is still in business. Coming from Calumet City, (that is where the legendary original Johns made its infamous debut) I was excited to come here when our friends suggested it for a dinner date. We were all starving and they kept raving about the pizza on the way over there. We started with martinis..they were HORRIBLE to put it politely.  Sent them back. Ordered fried zucchini...it was soggy and tasted like old grease. Tried the "foccicia" app....it looked like artichoke dip but realized to our dismay that it was piles and piles of large RAW garlic on it and had to spit it in our napkins. Ordered 2 pizzas and as all of the other review stated we couldn't believe how soggy and bland it was. I think out of the 2 pizzas there was about 4 pieces eaten and then they were sent back to the kitchen. I ordered the chicken michael luke and a salad (all core on a plate...it looked like cauliflower). It came with choice of soup..either chicken noodle or minestrone. Since the waitress said that the chicken noodle was just about out of noodles I opted for the minestrone...PURE PEPPER =( the chicken was HORRIBLE..something that might be attempted on a students first day of their cooking class, and the potatoes that were highly reccommended by the waitress had more huge slices of raw garlic in them. Our friends were mortified that they took us there and we all left still hungry but totally turned off. Such a sad dissappointment, especially since I had such fond memories of the original Johns in Cal City. Ate at Johns in calumet city for 20 years. Was happy to find this one in dyer. Always have the baked clams which are usually excellent. Was there Sunday night to relax before the rest of the holiday chaos. Was very disappointed by the clams that were over powered by bread crumbs. The shrimp sauté was buttery but had no lemon flavor like usual. Then a woman from the kitchen (don't know if owner or staff) her little girl kept running here and there. Not a relaxing evening at all. If my daughter got off her chair other than to escorted by me to the restroom, we'd pack up the meal and leave. Returned to johns to celebrate the closing of our home. Ordered a dozen clams. They were loaded with bread crumbs which made them very dry. One shell didn't even have a clam.
