I went to John's Auto in need of new tires for my Jeep. First and foremost, I immediately noticed that, even though I was a woman, he was talking to me without a gender bias. This may sound ridiculous but I had just come from a few other mechanics that had spoken to me in a "you're a woman and have no idea what you're talking about mechanically" kind of tone. Back to the point. He proposed a few different brands and types of tire for my car. He gave me the pros and cons of each, answered all the questions I had, and did not at all pressure me to make a decision on the spot. After thinking about it for a night and doing a little research, I contacted him and requested the tires which his own wife has on her car. I mean that's a piece of mind right there. He was quick to reply and scheduled me for an appointment before an impending snow storm. The work was done quickly and the price was incredibly reasonable. When I picked up my car he requested I follow up with him on how the tires do in the snow. I did follow up with him as the tires were just as he described - reliable. He also includes a free tire rotation with every oil change so I now know where I'm going for all my mechanical needs. I can't say enough about John's workmanship and customer service. read more

Dependable. Knowledgeable. A LOCAL TREASURE. Check this out...My wife and I passed through Ipswich with our toddler in tow having driven cross country from California to visit my mom in Great Neck. Annoyingly, we'd picked up a nail in a tire while passing though New York and had replaced it, but knew we needed to get all the tires checked before hitting the road back to California. JOHN'S TO THE RESCUE. Not only did John detect the direness of our tire's worn-down state, but he managed to acquire the replacement tires needed at a reasonable price, and squeeze us in to have the car ready the next morning, thus assuring we could get back on the road to California on the safest tires possible and on schedule. John and his wife are generous, professional, and all around lovely people. I wish we had them out here in Los Angeles because I'd take my car there every time. John really provides the kind of personalized service that puts a warm face and a hearty laugh on a small town like Ipswich, MA, and let's his customers drive away feeling safer and happy. Like everyone else's family, we live at an insane pace, shuttling kids all over planet Earth to events, sports, etc. we tend to postpone necessary car maintenance until it reaches crisis level. Our minivan was on the brink of disaster last Monday morning . My steering wheel was shaking so badly, I knew that I could not wait another minute to get repaired. Who do we all call to reverse the damage that our negligence causes? You know it: get JJ Gianakakis at John's Auto in Ipswich, Massachusetts on the phone! I knew my request was nearly impossible, but I told JJ my problem. He directed me to drop my van off immediately at his shop. Within an hour, JJ diagnosed a significant issue that could've been fatal. I needed new tires... like, three months ago! I figured that JJ would have my van in his shop for a couple of days, if not longer... but my pain was self-inflicted, so I would suffer the inconvenience of going without a vehicle to get my problems fixed by JJ. He moved mountains to get the four new tires. He also expertly repaired a heater problem I have been battling for more than a year. And to help me get my life in order, JJ quickly hooked me up with a long-overdue oil change. Absolutely Fantastic! Johns Auto has made my day! as I was having a rough afternoon and had no clue what else I should do John turned my day around. My car was locked with my keys and cell phone inside and ran over to johns to see what I could do. Sure enough he ran over and helped me and my 3 year old daughter get back into our car and we were able enjoy the rest of our afternoon. They do everything from motor replacement to rebuilding a transmission. Awesome service really it's incredible how fast they can rebuild a motor, they do it while you wait, just like getting an oil change. Extremely cheap pricing too read more

John has saved my car on more than one occasion. The first time I met him it was a cold, rainy March morning and I was on my way to work when I blew a tire. John's Citgo was just up the street, so I pulled over and ran in soaking wet and asked if he could help, and he was so incredibly nice. Long story short, he was able to order me new tires and have my car ready to go by the time I got out of my shift at work, and his prices were totally reasonable. I've been back to him a few times for various issues, and he has always been very efficient and hasn't overcharged me. I've never had a problem recur after he has fixed it. Yes, the gas there might be a bit more expensive than a self serve place (John's Citgo is full serve), but it's worth the few extra pennies to support this great local gas station & repair shop, and if you ever have any problems with your car, John's the guy to see. read more

Our family has two not-so-new cars that we're trying to squeeze a few more years out of, and John has been fantastic at enabling us to keep them on the road in good (i.e. safe, though not mint) condition. He helps us stay within our budget on repairs by prioritizing items and helps us understand what needs to be done, when, and why. Prior to John we had been taking our cars to the dealer for regular service, and I cry to think of the thousands of dollars we probably wasted over the years by doing so. All of the repairs he has done were fixed on the first visit - not something I can say for our dealer. He's great at getting back to us, scheduling repairs and service at times that work for us, and having the cars ready when he says he will. We have been taking all 3 of our family cars to JJ for years and have had excellent service. He is very knowledgeable, his prices are reasonable and he is honest. It is such a comfort to have a great mechanic!! Last week I called him because my car broke down in Georgetown, and after I explained what happened, he knew it was the transmission. He told me to have it towed to his transmission guy in Middleton. The next day he called me and told me it was, in fact, the transmission (yikes a $5,000 + repair!!!!), but he had done some research, made some calls, and found out that Nissan had extended the warranty on the transmission because of problems with that model. He contacted the dealer in Lynnfield, and they were going to pick up my car from Middleton for free. He spent all that time helping me and didn't make a dime! He saved me at least $5,000!! I would recommend John's Citgo to anyone looking for a great mechanic. JJ, Peter, John (JJ's dad) and the rest of the staff are always friendly and helpful. They make you feel like friends, not just customers!! I get all my gas there, too! read more
