Steve, the new owner, has customers sign an agreement that he can share their phone numbers and as a result my phone is plagued by robocallers, despite my having an unlisted phone number. This is a serious violation of trust and a very sleazy way to make extra cash at the expense of his customers. He also hires very young "mechanics" who lack the experience to handle some automotive matters. There are better places to go, thank heaven. read more

Christmas eve day, locked my keys, purse, cell phone in my car at gas station. I borrow station's landline phone but didn't know who I could call for help. I have done business with Ray's for over 15 years. Since I was a mile up street from him, I took a chance on calling him. Came and got me, took me home to get extra keys, and brought me back to my car ! Crisis averted. He was closing up early for Xmas holiday but took time away from family to help a damsel in distress. They don't try to sell you on unnecessary work, which let's be honest is hard to come by today. They actually listen & provide a level of customer service I haven't seen anywhere else. I had found a very good shop here until my last visits. Then when I went there a week ago, all the help had changed. Still gave them a try. Charged me to replace a bulb for an inspection, then it went back out. Scheduled a date to have other work done, and troubleshoot this problem, was told to drop car in evening so car would be cold for them in AM. Showed up at 4:50PM (sign says open until 5PM), all lights out and locked up. Called and left a message that I was very disappointed, never even received a reply. The person who used to run the desk never would have done that! Don't know if new ownership or what, but I will go elsewhere. read more

This place is super expensive. I had recently had some work done to my car and after paying the $650 for service I asked around and found that the work could have been done for $450 at another shop a few miles away. Guess where I'll be going next time??? In this economy I don't understand how these shady garage guys still stay in business. read more

I moved to the area and purchased an 08 Honda Odyssey. I have been using Ray's Auto for almost one year. Ray's has taken wonderful care of my van's maintenance issues. They performed the 120,000 mile service (including timing chain and water pump) this summer. They've serviced my brakes, A/C, and replaced my alternator when it went out. Each time they repair the van it drives like a new vehicle and feels great. They've been very good about communicating with me and no pressure on repairs. I also appreciate their loaner vehicles for $15 a day when I leave my van with them. I highly recommend them. read more

Do good work and are honest. Would not hesitate to take my vehicle their or refer friends. Only negative is pricing compared to other shops and dealers. They insist there pricing is more because they guarantee their work longer and need to pay they employees more to keep talent their.They also offer free shuttle service, Wi-fi, etc... But so do many dealers and smaller shops. I am constantly torn with going here because I truly love their service and people but to pay more than a dealer or another quality small garage does not make sense. They do offer coupons to help save money which helps. Also they will not match any dealer promotions or specials so their price is their price regardless. read more

I was new to the Merrimack Valley area with my very first car I had ever owned and clueless on where to take it for oil changes, repairs, etc. I saw a groupon that offered 3 oil changes for $29 total, and decided I should give Ray's a try. They were wonderful and my most trusted mechanic I have ever gone to. They offer a shuttle service, are incredibly friendly, and give truthful, non-biased advice. I think their prices are very reasonable. If I still lived in the area (I live in Washington now), I'd still be going there for all my car's needs. A+ place! read more

Finding a garage you can trust is so important and when I was recommended to Ray's about 10 years ago I felt very fortunate. Over the course of the past 10 years there has been a change in ownership and in the service manager, but nothing has changed with regards to the quality of their work and the honesty. If job needs to be done they stand behind it. If a job can wait they will tell you that. And now they even provide a loaner car for the day for $10! Unless you are driving a luxury car or have a big service contract your dealership does not do this even when it is a recall. I have another mechanic I usually go to in NH but I needed my state inspection done for MA and figured I might as well get my oil changed at the same time. They have a great deal right now $99 for 5 oil changes. Service was just excellent. So friendly, professional...both at the desk and by the mechanics themselves. The shop is tiny but very tidy and I noticed well kept up which tells a lot about how they run. Bumped into a few old timers who couldn't stop singing their praises, even traveling long distances to keep coming back. Love the personal feel you get while there. read more

Selling parts or service?? I guess I was a bit too eager to have my car fixed. I will say that over the 10 years that I was a customer, the work has always been done well, so I trusted them (it used to be "family-owned," and the previous owner was awesome!). A simple brake job where the price quote was too high in my mind, but I made the mistake of accepting in a weak moment. As I was told when I confronted them, I "could have walked away." No doubt about it, however, when I priced out these simple parts from the exact same supplier they used (down the street), it was just about 50% of the price I paid on the invoice (i.e. the markup on the parts was almost 100%). Blame it on the supplier for overcharging them, or just doing it as policy, it just doesn't seem to be the right business model for a shop that sells its "honesty" and "service." I would have been more satisfied if they said, that the cost was due to their great service and honesty, because that was reason I was even there to begin with (I live 20 miles away, but always thought it was worth the trip). Instead, I got replies like, "we have to make money to run..." and "the vendors need to make money too..." Again, I totally agree, but be honest about the price markups/breakdown. It took the shop a little over an hour to complete the work, and there was a labor charge (it was a fair hourly rate for a mechanic), as well as "shop sup" and taxes. Honestly now, I located the exact same parts for $233 (same supplier), but was charged $451 for "parts" on the invoice. Now that trust is gone, and for me, it will never come back. read more
