Joe, the owner, always ask specific questions such as what symptom(s) is occurring , when symptom first noticed, anything happened or was done to vehicle, etc. Then he will describe the possible list of repairs that may be needed and what was the likely cause of the problem. His quotes are very thorough and accurate which means no surprises when picking up your vehicle. And he saves the worn parts to show root cause of problem for customer review. Note: I take photos of the worn parts for my records of each vehicle. A true test of a good mechanic is having a tuneup done and changing out the timing belt. I know of 4 friends whose vehicles ran worst AFTER the timing belt was changed by their mechanics. Two of the friends traded in their vehicles within 10 months and the other 2 friends had the timing belt changed a second time through another mechanic. When CCC changed the timing belt and did tuneup on our 2000 Sienna and 2004 Sienna, both vans ran quieter and smoother than new from factory! We have been using CCC for all our family vehicle repairs for the past 10 years and have never been disappointed. A co-worker had recommended CCC to me at that time. Joe and Jason have kept our vans running in like new condition. Today the 2000 Sienna has 244K and the 2004 Sienna has 143K miles. We live in Massachusetts so we drive 30 miles each way to CCC. It is worth the time for us because we know that the work is done correctly for a reasonable price and a loaner car is provided. My mother, brother, and sister, all in Massachusetts , drive to CCC for their repair work too! We are happy with the engine and suspension work that CCC has done on our 5 family vehicles over these years. The work included troubleshooting and replacement of air fuel sensors, oxygen sensors, front struts, stabilizer links, inner & outer tie rods, lower control arms, coil springs, rear shocks, rear wheel bearings, catalytic converter, exhaust pipe, spark plugs & wires, timing belts, water pumps, radiator, batteries, valve cover gaskets, and air conditioner recharge. I have been going to Custom Car Care since they opened and they have worked on all of my families vehicles, including my 1955 Chevrolet. I know the word "honest" doesn't go together with the likes of lawyers, used car sales or mechanics, but you can scratch off mechanic when it comes to the owner at CCC. Joe is not going to up sell you anything you don't need and his staff gets the job done, on time and at quote, every time. They are experts at diagnosis and will NOT just start throwing parts at your car in hopes it will take care of the problem. They will tell you what you need now, and what you will be needing down the road. I have seen everything from Toyota's to Porches' and Lotus' in there, as well as very large commercial grade work trucks....and everything in-between. They have the capability to do anything to a vehicle from an oil change, to engine replacement, to front end adjustment, tire replacement/balancing, anything mechanically/electronically related to your vehicle. A couple of years ago we bought a used Hyundai, from a dealer and it ended up needing some exhaust work done to it. The son took it upon himself to take it back to the dealer where we bought it. He called me after they gave him the quote, I told him to bring it back home. I brought it over to Joe and he saved us almost $300. We wish we found Custom Car Care earlier. We were a little nervous leaving our '92 Cabriolet at a new location based on the reviews we found on Yelp but they all turned out to be true. We had to keep our battery on a trickle charger so that it would start when we wanted to use it and it also seemed like it was losing compression as we tried going up hills and keeping up to the speed limit on the highway. We told them what it was doing and they explained their process of starting at the beginning of the charging system and eliminating the non-problem items along the way to find the problem or the short. I liked that idea as other shops have said, we could try this and if that doesn't solve it we could try something else (just spending our money). They also said we use the same process to determine what is causing the loss of power. Let me tell you that we held off writing this review to see if the repairs held up and we have been using 'Baby" since the end of July and have not had to use the trickle charger once and we have been back on the highway and had no problems keeping up/passing cars! Whether you have a classic car or one of the newest ones out there I would not hesitate to bring it to Custom Car Care. They all were polite, knowledgeable, and professional - they have our business going forward. Oh, and I thought the bill was more than reasonable! Recently, I had an experience with the other car repair shop where they tried to con me while performing the yearly NH state inspection. The other guy was trying to squeeze money out of me taking advantage of the situation by recommending to change the control arm bushings for my car. When I contacted Custom Car Care on phone, as I had done business with them before, Joe was very thorough in asking me questions about my car issue. He told me it is very rare to replace control arm bushings. He told me right away that he needs to check the car before determining that it is indeed need to be replaced. Upon my insistence, he gave me separate quotes for replacing the control arm bushing and just bushings. Before I reached the scheduled time at his Salem repair shop, he had ordered the parts which may need to be replaced. Upon examining my car, by performing rigourous tests, he came to the conclusion that my car's control arm bushing were 100% perfect and there is no need to replace those. In fact he wrote his comments in the receipt that the recommended service from the other shop is not needed at all and the car was perfectly safe to drive. Joe was kind to provide his complete support if I choose to report the other repair guy to the state of NH. My whole family has been going to Custom Car Care since the business opened. We have never had any issues with the business, and we have always been treated with the highest of respect. Joe and his team are an elite crew who genuinely care about their customers. After losing my long time and trusted mechanic, I was devastated. Fortunately my car hadn't messed up until just recently after two years of owning it. I took it to VIP ( don't do this btw) to see if they could locate the issue. Of course they wanted to pull apart the engine ( once again, don't let this happen). After reading the reviews of ccc on here, I decided it was worth the 25 min drive to meet them and have them check my car out. It ended up only being a few qts low on oil, which joe put in on his own just to see if he could rectify the problem. It did. I had the oil changed and tires rotated by joe. A very polite and knowledgeable guy as well as the the other three gentlemen I met. I asked him to give me the rundown on anything else that could be wrong with the car. He told me very few things were wrong, how ( not) serious they were and in what order to take care of them Best thing, he didn't pressure me at all. Most of the work I do myself on my truck. However, me being an equipment mechanic/operator, I sometimes can get sick of wrenching all the time. With that noted, I am still extremely meticulous on who works on my Harley and my truck. When it comes to my truck, I choose two mechanics to work on my equipment and one of them is CCC. In fact, I had them install a level/lift suspension kit on my truck. 30000 miles and just about 3 YEARS later, my strut mounts wore out and needed replacing and I found evidence of the original job that CCC performed was incorrect. I took it back, not only did Joe take it in, and completely own up to it, He and his technicians corrected the lift, protected key bolts with grease, bought a new adjustable strut to replace the old one that was destroyed in the process of taking the old lift(spacer kit) out, and when I got the bill, I just covered the alignment and the strut mount that wears out over time anyways. It was a dark, cold middle of the night very far from our home in Florida when our diesel Excursion decided to die. We were on a work assignment in Manchester so we had our truck towed to a Ford Garage close by. Phil is always great to deal with when making the arrangements. They help maintain my car with regular check-ups and oil changes, etc. They explain everything in a manner that I, as a woman, can understand. I find value in their honesty and they always go the extra mile, checking to make sure my car is safe and working properly. If they find something additionally that needs repairing - they are honest and tell you that maybe it can wait a month or so, never pressuring you into unnecessary repairs. These guys are sharp as a razor. The family and I were headed to dinner. We stopped for a fill up at gas station as luck would have it . Our 2004 Chevy Tahoe would not start. I used yelp to find these guys. They were close by and had a great rating. It was 6pm on Saturday and they close at 6pm. I figured I would give them a shot. I called and without hesitation I believe his name was Phil said he would send someone right over. Joe the owner and a tech were there almost before u got off the phone. My truck needed a battery and alternator. They ran back to the shop put a battery in and let me drive to the shop. 1 avoiding a costly tow charge 2. Getting me back on the road by 730 3. Let my family and I use a loaner car to continue on to dinner. My truck was ready when we returned. I did not think service like this existed anymore. A friend referred me to Custom Car Care when I was considering purchasing a used Mini Cooper with a rebuilt engine and wanted to ensure it was mechanically sound. Joe, the owner, did a comprehensive check of the car and said that in his opinion it was a sound purchase. Honestly I can't say enough..I bought an such in Feb from what I found out later was from an incredibly fraudulent car dealership, this dealership sold me a non road safe vehicle and did almost 10k in damage to my engine, drive shaft, transfer case and a slew of other mechanical damages, I went 20 weeks without my vehicle while still paying in it. Joe was recommended to me and it was a life saver!! In one week Joe and his staff were able to diagnose and properly fix every damage done! Needless to say custom car care and it's staff literally saved my life!! I'm a single mother of two young children who was put out greatly by the people who sold me this vehicle, and without custom car care I would probably still be paying for a non drivable vehicle!! For years we had been going to a place out on Rt 38 in Salem and little did I know they were just ripping us off. When they wanted $550 for a brake job for my Toyota Venza my husband knew that was too much. A friend told me about CCC and she and her husband have been coming here for years. I brought my car over and the brake job for my Venza was $320! Now my family of 4 along with all our cars never go anywhere other than Custom Car Care. Joe, Phil and the entire staff at CCC are great. Dependable, knowledgeable and accurate service is key to CCC, they are without a doubt the best in Salem. We have lived in Salem for 30 years and had our fair share of shady garages, no more now that we've found CCC. I've been using custom car care as my mechanic for at least 10 years. Phil and Joe provide excellent customer service, top quality automotive repairs and fair prices. But more importantly, they're honest businessmen. For example, I stopped in today without an appointment because one of my tires had very low pressure/ almost flat. A technician was able to check my tire, figure out what was wrong, fix it in a 1/2 hour and it only cost $20. Another time, my car needed a tune up, I set up an appointment 1-2 days in advance. Joe called me with a price list of which items " had to be fixed" versus "suggest it be fixed". I didn't feel pressured to fix everything, which me and my wallet appreciated!!! read more

I have a 1997 Toyota Landcruiser with 226,000 miles on it that Custom Care Care has been servicing, maintaining and keeping alive for me since I've owned it. The CCC staff are honest and do not up sell. They tell you what you really need and when you really need it. The owner, Joe, is hands on and is there most of the time.
