There were only two other diners there including ourselves. First impressions is it's attached to a sketchy motel on US Hwy 19 but the interior is welcoming. Service: we were immediately greeted and seated. Slow time when we arrived. We had a rough start with our server. She took our drink orders fairly quickly and they arrived timely. She then disappeared for a good 20+ mins causing me to look for her. She was in another banquet type room with another worker and I had to get her attention. She apologized and we had no other issues. Food: This was the highlight of the experience. The food was authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. I had the pernil (pork) with arroz con habichuelas (rice & beans). My wife had the carne frita (fried beef) and also had arroz con habichuelas. We had to ask for a kids menu for our son and he had pollo frito y papas (fried chicken and fries) which was a good portion size. I also ordered a alcapurria (fried plantain w/ meat) which was outstanding and also a side of tostones (fried plantains). Food was a 9 out of 10. During our meal we noticed a band was setting up but we didn't get to stay long enough to enjoy it. We want to return and enjoy that experience in the future. Overall it was a good value on the food. Service wasn't perfect but not the worst. The servers appear very young. We will come back again solely on the food.

Being from Tampa, we are always on the look out for good Cuban sandwich places. My favorite in…read moreTampa unfortunately has closed so now on for it's replacement. This I found online searching and have driven by it a million times in the 18 years I have lived here in Tampa Bay as it is close to my parents house. Sadly, the plaza that it is in isn't thriving so I never noticed it. Inside was cute with lively music and decor. They were willing to adjust our sandwiches to order and very friendly. They have been there for over 20 years according to the person I spoke with, which in a plaza not thriving says a lot. The prices were very affordable and all the meats were warm throughout (sadly I have had many Cubans with some meat still being cold even though pressed) but I would say that I would have liked the sandwich pressed just a little longer to make more of a crispy bread. Other than that, we enjoyed our lunch and are happy to have found a new location so close to my parents for when my Mom gets her Cuban cravings. :)

The ambiance didn't feel too welcoming as it darkly lit and awkwardly spaced. As nice as the staff were I don't think it made up for the not so nice food served. I ordered the Palomilla platter. The plantains were rice and plantains were nice. But the rest really didn't have much flavor. Maybe if given another chance they may improve but I'll skip. Next time I'll look elsewhere for my Cuban food cravings.

After my Puerto Rican coworker insisted I visit this truck, we decided to make a special visit. I…read morecouldn't visualize seeing the truck in the past, but he insisted it was there - on the left hand side when heading to Tampa, AFTER the bait-and-tackle truck. We almost missed it. We managed to screech our way in and wandered up to the truck. The first thing that we noticed was the music that was playing was ridiculously loud, we had a difficult time standing by the menu to decide what to order. There is a single table outside but that's it, you'll probably end up eating in your car. There were 4 of us, so we ordered a variety of things and were able to taste each others. As a run down for what we got: Tostones - Unsalted, and dry. They gave us salt packets, but they were too moist to use. The sauce they came with was delicious, it's the same sauce that comes with everything. Crab and Beef Empanandillas - The crab reminded me somewhat of a deviled crab cake, but obviously a different outside and less spicy. It was really delicious. The beef was ridiculous though. Loved every bite of it, and each of us fought over it. Skirt Steak - This was probably the tastiest thing we ordered. It's skirt steak, so it wasn't precisely tender but the flavor was amazing. It came with rice and beans which were incredible. It also came with a "salad" but I'm hard pressed to call it that. Onion Steak - This one is more than enough for two people. It was a huge serving of meat, sauteed onions and of course rice and beans. It was okay, we were all spoiled by the skirt steak. Grilled Chicken Mofongo - We weren't exactly sure what to expect, but we ordered it. Mofongo is a plantain dish, but again it was really dry and kinda bland. We only took a few bites of it. The chicken was decent, I liked it a lot but I seemed to be the only one. I'm not sure how it's supposed to be, but I guess I feel like there should be some sort of sauce to accompany it. Overall - if we were in the area and hungry, we would definitely stop again for the skirt steak or empanadillas, but we wouldn't send someone there or go out of our way. Perhaps we're just too American!

Sit on the plastic tables and chairs loosely set by the truck, or eat out of your car. Regardless Sabor del Caribe certainly does bring the street vendor feel to your gastronomical experience. The menu is not a lengthy extravaganza, however every item, they do served, is a plateful of delicious goodies. The Empanadas are piping hot, perfectly balanced fried without excess grease and stuffed full of your choice of meat - pork or beef. The pork plate is served with tender chunks of pork - which at the first taste exude aromas and tenderness only - if you had a Puerto Rican grandma, would cook. The rice and beans that accompany are steeped in equal aromatics and explosive taste on every bite. The prices are reasonable and balance the quality of food. They folks operating the truck have heavy accents but are very friendly to order to and will even explain the dishes to you. During my visit, I was the only non-spanish speaking patron but I did not feel out of place or alienated. The other patrons struck up a conversation with me that was wonderful. At the end I left feeling I just spent the 30 min at a true by the busy road street vendor offering a whimsy for your tastebuds.
