Not sure if I have already reviewed this spot, but I grew up on Johnny's. Not this one, but the original one in Brawley. But I have frequented this location when I'm in town (I live in Vegas). Upon entering, they took our order right away. My kids were so excited for this visit because we've been eating tamales and menudo all week, so they were ready for a change and LOVE Johnny's! We ordered $78 worth of food and it was all amazing! I mean, the food isn't anything great or anything, it's just how they cook it. They cook everything with love. That makes all the difference.. You're better off ordering in person than doing an online order to save time. It seems they ignore the online orders or forget because I waited 40 minutes and countless people getting their order first who walked in after me who ordered at the register. Luckily the register lady who is always super nice and attentive asked the kitchen and waited another 10 minutes and more people getting theirs before mine came up. First the good things...great service ! Girls were very attentive and friendly. The restaurant was very clean, including the bathroom. Unfortunately the two carne asada burritos were not very good. The meat was very salty and cold. the beans were also cold. These were probably the worst burritos we have eaten in quite a while! Needed a quick place to grab food we could eat while traveling and my guy said a burrito would do him well and be easy enough to eat while driving. We found Johnny's on Google Maps and decided to give it a try since it's really close from the highway. I know a business can't control everything on the outside of their establishment but for god's sake, send someone out to pick up all the trash in the parking lot. There was so much trash just dropped in the lot from Johnny's customers - wrappers, drink cups, squished burritos, etc. The place is huge inside with various dining rooms. Service was quick. I ordered a bean & cheese burrito and a horchata. My guy had a carne asada burrito. The horchata was coming out of the self-serve dispenser as water and once I alerted the staff and they tried to fix it, 10 minutes later I told them never mind and filled my cup with Dr Pepper instead. Not sure what the issue was but the staff was having a difficult time. Once on the road and we dug in to our burritos, they were really very blah. The carne asada burro was just OK. Had a decent amount of gristle. My bean and cheese burrito was really runny and messy. The hot sauce is NOT hot so that was disappointing. We tried the beef taco plate and the barbacoa plate. The beef tacos are very good, crispy, the beef is soft yet crispy, with a mild red sauce, and the cheese is melty. The barbacoa meat is also very good, the rice and beans were good on both plates. The prices are very reasonable. I really recommend trying this place at least once. The one star is awarded to the sweet cashier, she was amazing. The two 'California burritos' we ordered were so bad in so many ways. First, they were tiny, like, fit sideways at the bottom of a small paper bag kind of tiny. Anyone who lives in CA knows that the burritos are supposed to be big enough to only go in longways. Second, upon unwrapping mine, it immediately smelled like canned dog food. When i touched it, it was cold, ice cold. The tortilla came straight from a fridge, the cheese was cold and unmelted, the fries felt like they had sat out for at least 10 minutes before being added and the meat was NOT carne asada. The menu stated sour cream, guacamole and salsa was included in the burrito. I never found the guac, im not sure what they were using but it sure was not sour cream, and what kind of Mexican food spot doesn't have red sauce or verde!? They had a dark, almost brown sauce that was more sweet and only used to mask the warm dog food smell. Would never recommend this place to anyone and will never be back. read more

Needed a quick meal on the road heading home during a long road trip. I quickly looked up burritos in El Centro, knowing that's what I was needing. Johnny's popped up, and I am glad it did. The food was fantastic and the burrito was made in minutes. The only issue I had was that I wished the burrito was bigger to enjoy it even more. I was told that this is one of the best places to go eat I drove 36 minutes walked into a restaurant full of staff tellng me they are closed. both google and iphone call Johnny's burritos up saying that it closes at 4 PM. it was 314 when I walked in. this is the second attempt that has happened like this by the way I'm not too sure why they are running this like this but this is giving lazy and improper. change your hours online so that you're not wasting peoples time. horrible read more

Not the worst but far from the best. Their burritos are ok. The inside of the restaurant was busy and kind of crowded. Not a very enjoyable place to eat but I guess not bad if you don't have anywhere else to go eat them. The tortillas are pretty good but the fillings are kind of bland and a little too wet. The tortillas being a little smaller, they open up easily and are not as easy to eat as burritos when bigger tortillas are used. My friend range about this place , so on a trip to Yuma we stopped. I have to say we got rolled tacos, hard shell chicken and beef tacos, chili reano burritos, pizza pockets, Carne asada burritos. The rolled tacos were filled with meat, a tad soft covered in avocado sauce and their special chili which is amazing. My fav by far. The Carne asada was over cooked and too salty. CR burrito was filled with cheese, inside a chili. Not spicy at all but in my opinion too much cheese. The tacos were hard which I don't care for and the chicken was dry. My friend said those are usually too die for so maybe I'll give it Another try but def won't make it a point to ever go that far just for their food. read more

Omgoodness... I come through El Centro every week and stop and get something to eat so today I thought I would try Johnny's burritos. The guacamole on the taquitos were disgusting doesn't even work or even resemble guacamole. My lightly toasted BLT was hard and they gave me one tomato in the whole sandwich. Deep fried bean and cheese burrito, carne asada fries, pizza pocket all are my family's go-to. My brother lives up north and has to come at least a couple times when he is in town. I know Johnny's is known for their teas, but their lemonade is also made in house and it's delicious! I usually do an Arnold Palmer to get a taste of both. Service is always good, but I only do to-go. I wish they were opened longer, since we don't get to go often with the weird hours but def worth it when we can make the stop. read more

I've been a Johnny's Burritos fan since I first tried their food out in Brawley way back in the day. I love french fries, especially if you smother them with cheese and Johnny's does that so well. I typically just get cheese fries and go crazy with different salsas and jalapenos, but sometimes grab some avocado sauce on top as well. Service here has never been an issue for me and food seems to be fairly priced. I recommend grabbing some food here if you are in the area. read more

I've always heard people say how great the Mexican food is in the valley so when work took me out here for the day I figured I'd check out Johnny Burrito. It was very busy inside and even the local fire department was here for lunch which is a good sign because hose jockeys know their food. Me and my buddy ordered carne asada burritos. Can't go wrong with carne asada right? Especially when I've heard "how good the carne asada is out in the valley"... uh huh. Right off the bat I notice it's a smaller burrito than I'm used to in San Diego. It was literally half the size of most taco shops here but I figured ok cool I probably don't need to be stuffed for a 2 hour car ride. So I take a couple bites and something instantly is weird. instead of carne asada I taste something like pot roast.... thick kinda chewy chunks of a pretty much flavorless brown meat. WTF is this? don't you grill carne asada? what is this slow cooker pot roast BS? I mentioned something to my buddy and he was like yeah this is weird. Even the red sauce wasnt good as it was sort of vinegary. For the first time in my life I was glad it was small because it wasn't enjoyable to eat I've been in California for 12 years now and I've eaten hundreds of carne asada burritos at dozens of taco shops from the border to San Francisco and Johnny Burrito is literally the worst I've ever had! I ordered the flaunts and I got frozen taquitos. If they are going to put flaunts on the menu then at least they should know what that is. They should be using fresh ingredients for a"Mexican restaurant".. I even asked the person who was taking the order if they are flour tortillas and she said yes. Everyone in the Valley raves about Johnny's. I've eaten here a few times, and I never got the hype. I kept getting recommendations, because clearly I was ordering the wrong thing, right? The cheese fries are only so so, I am still not a fan, and their taquitos come in so much avocado sauce that they're nearly inedible...but Johnny's does serve these with a popsicle stick so that you can dig them out of the green goop without messing up your fingers too much. I gave them another go today, and on the recommendation of my coworker, I ordered half a dozen flautas. They were crisp, flavorful and pretty delicious. Johnny's got it right with their flautas. I don't know that I'll ever count myself among their devotees, but I'm willing to keep sampling things on their menu...I was happy that the flautas proved me wrong. read more

As we were leaving the Imperial valley back to LA we were struck with the need for a Machaca burrito. According to Yelpers Johnny's burritos was the place to satisfy our cravings. We ordered the Machaca burrito and just to be on the safe side we also ordered a Barbacoa burrito. Having tried the Mother of ALL burritos at Rosa Maria's of San Bernardino, the fight comparison was on. The Machaca burrito came in at a score of 1 Star and a Black hole: it was a bit Bland, not much flavor so I decided to drown it with their "HOT" salsa. Their salsa needs to be labeled as "Falsa Salsa" because that stuff could have passed as watered down Apple juice. How can someone screw up salsa, even my White friends can do better than these guys! So I moved on to the Barbacoa burrito and it was a 2 Black holes plus a burned out Nebula: it looked like meat felt like meat but the taste was absolutely missing! I think my old shoe has more flavor. In the end of this experience I would suggest that Mr. Johnny changes his name to "Johnny's Borittos!" Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Please go and adopt my abandoned unfinished boritto. read more

Johnny's is one of the best things the Valley has to offer! The fries w/ cheese and guac is the best thing ever! I went to this location today during lunch hour for the first time and it was PACKED. The cashier seemed to be in a hurry because she rushed us to order and just looked impatient. I decided to order soft tacos and fries w/ cheese and guac. We were called that our order was ready in about 5-10 minutes which is average for Johnny's. The food was good as always. The food never disappoints! The place was clean and the condiments bar was stocked up. They were generous with napkins. Besides the cashier being in a hurry everything was great. ALL three of Johnny's Burrito's locations are excellent! To find REAL AUTHENTIC Mexican food go ahead and drive to Mexicali... but if you want the next best thing... Johnny's is your place. You have to try their famous fries with cheese and avocado, pizza pockets, and their chips grande! Their machaca breakfast burrito's are a great choice as well. Very underwhelmed. Ordered a CAB with cheese. Didnt have guac or cheese and the salsa had a weird spice in it. A whole lot of meh.

I ate there a few weeks ago. Had 3 tacos, all different. Chicken, Pork and Barbacoa. I enjoyed them very much. All meats were juicy and tender and had great taste. I'm not a hot salsa guy, so I go their mild stuff and it was very good. I've seen some good and some bad reviews, and my take is that food is very subjective. This was a very good meal and served fairly quickly. The sweet tea was very good too. Maybe a tad too sweet...but it IS called sweet tea. I came at a bad time...right around lunch and within a 5 minute time frame, the place went from 6 customers to about 200...the students from the local high school flooded the place. All good. Good for a local business to be successful and do well. Staff was very friendly and the dining area, and bathroom were clean. For fast food...which this is...this is DEFINITELY a cut above your Del Tacos, Taco Bell's, etc. Will be back. read more
