Solid haircuts from Amy. From what I can tell she's the only barber and takes care of the shop all by herself. She's actually pretty friendly and knows how to cut all types of hair/hairstyles. I walked in the afternoon without an appointment, had to wait about an hour and 5 people later, but it was worth it! I'd recommend making an appointment ahead of time to prevent yourself from waiting forever. I even heard she takes appointments starting at 5am some days! When it was my turn she sat me down and I explained the type of haircut I was aiming for. I provided her with a picture on how my hair is usually styled and explained to just cut the sides from a 0 at the bottom and blend into a 1. Basically a bald mid-fade, but simplified. She finished my cut in about 30 minutes and I was all set! Very happy with the results. She only charged me $13 for the haircut since it was only the sides I'm assuming. After 8 plus years of getting my haircut here, it only seems right to give Amy, the HBIC "head barber in charge", the review and justice she deserves. She's an extremely hard worker and to that testament I don't think she's never called in sick, well at least the times I've gone in. That being said let's begin. She begins work at 0900 and closes 1800 hours from Tuesday to Friday, 0530 to 1500 hours on Saturday. Sunday's and Monday's are her rest days. Amy is the only one cutting hair, albeit one of her daughters was cutting hair at one point. She takes appointments over the phone and jots them down in a manner that only she decipher. Her appointments can fill extremely quick, especially before school season and before holidays, so make sure you account for that. She does accept walk-ins. I've walked in for an appointment numerous times and the longest I've waited was approximately an hour plus. If you have to wait at least you can entertain yourself with her assorted magazine collection or enjoy some candy from the bowl. Amy does cash only. She charges $18 for a "top and bottom" haircut and only $12 for the side. She's even done some weird things like shave a guys back hair for extra. Best cut I've had in a very long time! Amy took me in before she was closing. She is such a nice person! Had me sign a COVID questionnaire and take my temp. I didn't get a haircut from her, but I was with my bf while I was waiting for him to get a haircut. This woman is phenomenal!!! Why? I witnessed a father come in her shop out of the blue and gave her money. Amy, the owner, asked what is this money for? The father said, " My son came in here and didn't pay you!" Amy replied, " Your son told me he didn't have money awhile ago so I just gave him a haircut and that's okay. I know times are hard right now." Amy is great! She's running this whole ship by herself and nothing like that is easy. She may come across a little brash on the phone and in person, but it comes from experience in how to get the job done. Make sure to make an appointment as most people seem to do that and if you don't, you'll be waiting for a while. She does a great job of following your wishes and making you look great! I am Noel's evolving scalp ... and I am one guilt-ridden subcutaneous layer of tissue. A while back, I wrote a glowing review about a barbershop I faithfully visited in the Richmond District (May's Barbershop). Although I truly considered the haircuts provided at said barbershop to be really good, I must admit that, at the time, I didn't have a large basis for comparison. After mentioning the hassle of driving to the 18th and Geary area and having to look for parking just to get a damn haircut (why am I so angry?), one of my brother-in-laws, a fellow no-nonsense, no-frills, cut-my-hair-quick-so-I-can-get-on-with-my-day type of guy, informed me that he took care of his hair-cutting needs at Johnny's Barbershop. Located in Pacfica, where I do a fair amount of my running, Johnny's Barbershop is but a five minute drive down Sharp Park Road for me - BONUS! Convenient location aside, the owner of the shop, Amy, KNOWS how to cut men's hair. She's FAST and EFFECTIVE with the razors and a veritable JEDI with the scissors, an elegant tool for a more civilized haircut (dork). What I greatly appreciate is that Amy will take the time to masterfully use the scissors when dealing with my idiosyncratic hair growth patterns (#ihgp ... I just made that up). In about 10 minutes, Amy can efficiently cut my hair in one of my two preferred styles: 1. MEDIUM-financial-district-cut, and 2. SHORT-keep-me-cool-while-I'm-cycling-damn-I'm-a-pinhead-cut. As an added bonus, Amy is super FRIENDLY and, if you get to know her, quite funny. There have been many times where I found myself wanting to stay and chat despite the fact that I was running short on time! A tip to newbies "dropping in" for a haircut: DON'T. The shop typically has several no-appointment-havin', drop-in bastards waiting for their respective turns in Amy's main barber chair. Unless you have an urge to spend 30-45 minutes looking through Amy's collection of dude-friendly magazines (Sports Illustrated, ESPN, Motor Trend, etc.), I highly suggest that you call to make an appointment. Amy has a loooong list of loyal customers and the queue is often filled - starting as early as 6:00AM and going through 6:00PM on most days ... I kid you not. I make my appointments on a certain day in order to avoid the possibility of having Amy deny my same-day requests. "Oh Noel, what day is that?" you may ask. To which I would reply, "I ain't tellin' any of you last-minute-drop-in bastards which day I schedule my haircut!" ... (again, why am I so "Fight-Club" angry?) Epilogue: I am Noel's evolving scalp and I have acknowledged my guilt. I've had my hair-cutting needs met by Amy for SEVERAL years now and I've come to terms with the fact that I've moved on from my previous barber. I followed up with the aforementioned barber in the Richmond District and I informed her that I'd been going to a new barber for my hair-cutting needs. After my delivery of the proverbial, "it's not you, it's me" line [ugh], I let her know that I found a new barber who "had me" with the quasi-stern response, "1 on side, 5 on top - OK. Sit still. No problem." P.S. I once asked Amy why she didn't rename the barbershop after purchasing it. Amy: "My dear, would you get your hair cut at 'Amy's Barbershop' or 'Johnny's Barbershop'?" I went the first time this morning there because of the reviews here. She was friendly, did a good job, and seems to get a lot of repeat business. She will definitely get mine while I'm in this area! The place is clean and comfortable, plenty of magazines. While I was in the chair, someone called to find out how busy she is, which is a good idea unless you're willing to just wait your turn. Shortly after I moved to Pacifica in 2007, I went for a walk around my neighborhood, and was pleasantly surprised to find a barber shop only a couple of blocks away. I decided to give this place a try the next time I got a haircut...and, I haven't let anyone else touch my hair since! I saw some of the other reviews that said that they're traveling from all around the Bay Area to see Amy, and I don't blame them in the slightest! Even though I only need a haircut once every two or three months, Amy always remembers me and remember exactly how I want my hair cut (not an easy thing!!) I have nothing but good things to say about this place, and I would recommend it to anyone! I will say that, over the years, it's gotten busy enough that I recommend calling ahead and making an appointment...before I wised up, I used to go in without an appointment and the last few times, I had to wait a good 45 minutes. I just went there again today and saw that, for the first time since I started going there, Amy has a second person working with her...I haven't really had a chance to meet the second lady, though, so I can't comment on her work. read more

I was a bit hesitant at first because when I looked in for the first time, no one was in there, so I assumed that she must be a crappy barber.
