Some food items are good, not great but good. Other items are awful. I've tried 5 different types of pizzas they offer. I would not recommend any of them. The crust isn't cooked long enough and has zero flavor. The sauce tastes cheap. They actually do load it up with toppings though, so that's one positive. I would suggest the garlic knots, the salad was good and the various rolls (pepperoni, spinach, etc) were pretty good. The sandwiches are huge and look good but I've never tried one. The drinks are horrible. They use unfiltered union county water that tastes like dirt. Get a bottled drink or bring your own. The tea is fake so don't be fooled by the sign that says "sweet southern tea." It absolutely is not. Some of the servers are nice, one that has dark hair and seems older than the others is always very kind. The teens are minimally nice they certainly do not go above and beyond for anyone, just minimal requirements. The place is always hot. I understand the ovens but no other pizza places have this issue. Watching people sit in there fanning themselves and walking outside into the hot southern summer air and there's absolutely no temperature difference should tell you it's way too hot inside. read more

My wife and I stopped in midday and split their two slice with soda special for $7.99. Good deal and nice to have slice options instead of a whole pie. The cashier was friendly and helpful, too. We liked the dough with its crispy crust (an added treat when rewarming a slice); however, we found the sauce uninspiring and began tossing on our slices extra cheese, seasonings, and garlic to amp it up. I would be willing to try them again especially since they have more items in which I'm interested. The crust flavor was just ok and the sauce was marginal. It's not an actual sit down restaurant. You walk up and order, get your own drink, and find a seat. It was clean and seemed busy, but I wouldn't drive out of my way to eat here again. If I was with friends who wanted to eat here then I'd go again. We went here on a whim to try something other than Pizza Hut. The pizza was good and the garlic knots too. The service well that left a lot to be desired. They take your order at the register and bring your food to the table. That's it for service. I was disappointed that they pass the surcharges of credit cards on to the customer. Our first time here and we liked it a lot. We shared an antipasto salad with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The sell pizza by the slice as well as whole pizza and a variety of other items. Our most recent experience at Johnny Tomaties left me with mixed feelings. I specifically asked not to over bake our pizza, but unfortunately it was over baked . The flavors are there but the execution fell short. We did add to our order a Meatball roll which was absolutely delicious and baked to perfection. This is our go to pizza place. Jonny's is a no frills pizza place, they have a few seats for those that want to eat in. However, they are known for takeout and you won't be disappointed. Coming from the north and going to college in the northeast you learn about great pizza. The Charlotte area comes up short on great pizza places. Johnnys is the only place we've found to be consistent each time we visit. Their tomato sauce has a sweet hint to it that I can't put my finger on. They take the time to make sure the pizzas aren't smothered in too much sauce. Highly recommend trying johnnys you'll be pleasantly surprised!! read more

The sauce was pleasant with a hint of sweetness. I'm from NY so I base my pizza on the crispness of the bread and the authentic taste of the sauce. The cheese to bread ratio checks all of my boxes. I've been here a few times since Pizza Palace moved out. While I do miss the lunch buffet from Pizza Palace, I do enjoy the "by the slice" options from the new management. The interior could be fixed up....it seems to be still falling apart from the Pizza Palace days on the inside (bathroom light switch falling out the wall, ceiling gross, etc) but this place deserves a chance. Saw this place mentioned on a Facebook foodie page and thought we'd give it a try. It's a small shop with only a few tables. They mostly do takeout but since it's a drive for us we opted to eat in. Started off with mozzarella sticks and they were good. I ordered the clam pizza which has a garlic oil base. It was delicious . I'm still thinking about it 3 days later. My bf stuck with traditional sausage mushroom & pepper. The crust was crispy. Again another winner.
