I came here over the weekend and while the service was good. The burger fell apart after 2 to 3 bites. I believe that they are pressing the meat so much that it can't stay together so it falls apart. The restaurant was clean and it is missing the old vibes that it used to have. I stopped by Johnny Rockets recently and was very disappointed in the lack of customer service. When I asked what a BOCA Burger was, the short-order cook dismissed my question with, "It's a black bean burger, it says it." When I tried to clarify where that was mentioned or get more information on nutrition, the cashier couldn't provide any insight either. The interaction made it clear that the staff hasn't received proper training in customer care. While this is a quick-stop, fast-food style restaurant, basic courtesy and product knowledge should be expected. This is the second time i've arrived before their listed closing time and they conveniently closed 30 minutes early. I arrived at 5:32 when they are supposed to close at 6. There used to be a number of Johnny Rockets in Atlanta (Cobb Galleria, near Cumberland, off West Paces Ferry Road) and this one in Phipps (which was closed for a while during the Legoland construction.) Thankfully this one has stayed open. I have known a few of the people from the West Paces Ferry location, who moved over here. I am glad that JR kept them, because this is one of the friendliest restaurants around at any price point. Whether it is the silly little dance they do sometimes or just how they give you a nickel for the juke box. The real reason to come here of course is for the burgers. They use Tilamook cheese, which is perfect. I usually get the turkey burger patty, which you can put in any of the places where the burgers normally come as beef. That opens up a lot of the menu if you're trying to pretend you're healthy. They fries are good (and they always draw a smile with the ketchup in your dish), but the best thing is that you can add cherry or vanilla to any of the sodas. Hadn't eaten at Johnny Rockets since the 90s. Fast forward: the JR staff on Royal Caribbean were incredible. The food was tasty. Never disappointed. Tipped on top of the included gratuity. Everything was spectacular. Since my cruise, I've been craving the JR taste and experience. Made an hour drive to visit this JR and what a mistake. We arrived eager at opening. The only visible employee was leaving the restaurant as we entered. I asked if they were now open and she said yes as she walked past us toward the elevator. Didn't greet. Didn't give us info on whether to sit etx. We waited. No one came out. We seat ourselves at the counter hopeful. 5-7 minutes after opening, a cook comes out. Looks at us. No greeting. Proceeds to grill. Then a server comes out. Drops menus in front of us. Again no greeting. What a horrible service experience. We eventually ordered. Ate and the fun was below average. Nothing like the JR food on the cruise. We ate half of our meal, paid/tipped and left. Do not recommend. Plus we noticed the 84 health score while dining. After the experience, honestly thought - Phipps Plazas quality has certainly declined. So glad we stayed in the mall and visited the retail stores were the experiences where absolutely delightful. Stay away from top level if you want any service. The recommended bathrooms were disgusting. UPDATE: Visited at 11am On Wednesday July 27. read more

Probably has nothing to do with it, but here's an update: 1) The quality of service has really gone down here. I sat right up front on a barstool and it still took 10 minutes for a server to ask me what I would like. During my meal, my server also went MIA several time and I had to ask other servers for more catsup, my check, etc. 2) The fries and onion rings are barely cooked--definitely not fried to a golden brown like they should be. 3) The apple pie was sub-par. It wasn't even a full slice and it was mostly flavorless. So, in summary, I recommend eating elsewhere before or after your show at the nearby AMC. read more

A quick and easy meal before or after a flick is a cinch when you swing by Johnny Rockets at Phipps Plaza. Right next door to the theatre and with a decent amount of seating (both tables and counter), they do a pretty good job of getting you in and out. Usually, I would opt for a burger, but wanting something a little bit lighter, I thought I would get the chicken club sandwich. I didn't realize it included 3 slices of bread. It was still delicious, but on the second half of the sandwich, I removed the chicken and third slice of bread and had a great BLT. I also chose the sweet potato fries instead of traditional fries or onion rings. Interestingly, they weren't salty, nor did they seem to have any kind of seasoning on them. Plain, but yummy. My one splurge was a true, honest to goodness, Vanilla Coke. This isn't from the can, this is a fountain Coke with Vanilla syrup added by the soda jerks. YUM. And I rarely drink sodas at all. It was worth every sip (and frankly, every single burp later on). We were done eating and paid in plenty of time to make it to our fancy and comfy reserved seats to catch the sneak previews. For fast food or even short order, almost 40 minutes to get served is indicative of a poorly organized, almost chaotic kitchen. The food is your typical greasy burgers and fries. The young lady who took my order did at least apologize for the wait, but without eye contact. I believe a letter to the corporate hq is in order for the extremely slow service, and not just mine, the guy who ordered ahead of me still hadn't received his order as I received mine. I expected a little bit more from a Johnny Rockets located in Phipps Plaza. The location is in a great place it's right next to the AMC movie theater and Legoland. The location is small they have a huge bar seating area and interior cramped seating area which I do not recommend. It's always pretty busy and so I decided I would give it a shot. I was hungry and I was going to get a burger and fries but when I saw them bring out the fries for another patron I decided to opt out of the fries. They didn't look very appetizing. I did get a regular burger. It took them about 20 minutes to get that burger to me. That's a little surprising considering bigger places get food faster but no worries. I've decided that maybe was a really good burger. Well let me tell you that it wasn't. The burger was wet, the bread especially. The lettuce was very wet as well and I suspect-that the wetness from the lettuce made the bread very soggy. The flavors were very poor and I did not like it. I really think they need to work on the burger. The two stars are for the service because the lady was working very hard and it was really busy in there and she was nice. The Food is not good. I would not recommend getting a burger from here again. I do not like soggy bread and I do not like wet lettuce in my burger. If you're going to take 20 minutes to make a burger, make it good. You know, it's a Johnny Rockets. And that means they're A-Okay. You're sure to get a reliably good, old-fashioned burger meal here, complete with fries or tots and even a milkshake if you want it. This particular location is right outside the Phipps Plaza theater. This means you can get a burger to go here, and stuff it in your pocket before going in to see a movie. Or you can sit at the diner bar, or in the adjacent seating area and enjoy your burger and carbs before you go in to see your movie. I've always found staff willing to accommodate. It had been yeeeeeeears since I had been to a Johnny Rockets. It was really nice to step around the corner from AMC at Phipps to see this old reliable diner with a row of bar seats just off of the entrance. Since we were waiting for a movie to start, we decided to grab a quick bite to eat before heading in to the theatre. We took the two closest seats to the theatre and the friendly lady came up and greeted us. I love that their staff still wears the old paper hats and still makes the setting feel like an old soda shop. Kind of a "let's go to the hop" sorta deal. The small jukeboxes on top of the counter are really cool, too. They even give you a nickel so you can play a song! The whole soda jerk setup is nice and really makes it fun to eat. The food isn't the most amazing stuff on the planet, but it is reliable. Think of what you'd get at Steak N' Shake and then you're more than halfway there. It's all of the oldies but goldies -- burgers, patty melts, fries, shakes, club sandwiches, chili, etc. I ordered the chicken club sandwich and it was like biting into the many others I've had in my life. Nice and easy. We also ordered some fries and onion rings for our meal. It was so fun when our server brought these out, grabbed a small plate, and made a smily face out of ketchup for us. It was so cute. I remember loving this as a kid! We didn't end up getting any milkshakes or anything, but I do remember them being amazing. Next time! I would give JR's a 3.4, Steak N Shake a 3.0, Varsity a 2.3 & IHOP a 2.0. Pricey for the type of restaurant that is(even if it wasn't located inside of a foodcourt) would not have eaten there unless I had a coupon from joining email list. They sell their sides separately from entrée so for 7$ all u get is a burger, fries will be another 4$. This place is a Johnny Rockets right by the Legoland Discovery Center and a movie theater in a busy mall. Yes, this place is busy, but the service does a good job of keeping your drinks full and getting orders out at a reasonable pace. I ordered a couple burgers, a grilled cheese, and a couple orders of cheese fries. The total time spent here was about 35-40 minutes, which was reasonable for how crowded the spot was. To this day, nothing quite hits the spot like Johnny Rockets. This location at Phipps mall isn't ideal, but they've managed to capture the iconic JR feel tucked amongst the high end shops, movie theater, and Legoland. I will caution: Beware the crowds. There can be a serious wait, especially on the weekends and at peak hours. Practice queuing and wait for the stools at the counter if need be. I've seen several conflicts when someone strolls up and grabs a seat out of turn. On to the food. Obviously, the Johnny Rockets burgers and shakes are the cornerstone of their retro menu. The premium shakes are worth the upcharge. I'm stuck right now because I keep going back to the M&M's shake. I can't get enough of it! But there are plenty of great options. The cookies and cream, the butterfinger, etc. all merit a try. When it comes to the burgers, the Route 66 is a solid choice - a little more complex than the usual burger ingredients, but not quite a gourmet item. The Rocket single or double is very good. The sauce has a creamy base that enhances the onion flavor, but adds a dairy nuance that changes the whole burger. Of course, the original is great. You should get exactly what you're hoping for. Outside of burgers, I've always loved the tuna salad sandwich at JR. They just have a great - albeit simple - tuna salad recipe and then put a hearty helping of it on some underrated wheat bread with a little lettuce and mayo. If you want to go lighter, this is a great route. Don't be deterred from tuna salad at a restaurant. It's foolish to avoid it, unless you don't like tuna that is. I've tried the Philly cheese steak. It's also pretty good; it may not be authentic, but it's rich and hits on the same notes as the genuine article. The fries aren't bad. They're a little generic, but with a little help, they can be really good too. For example, get the cheese fries, but ask for shredded cheese instead of the liquid stuff - way better experience. The staff are generally good, but occasionally you get a dingbat server. When we get our usual server, he's great, but one time we had a waitress who was clueless. She sat us at one table; then insisted we move. She took forever to bring our milkshakes and they were totally melted. It was a terrible experience, but it was the exception. If you like cheap and unhealthy and pretending like its still the Cold War, Johnny Rockets is a blast. The food is tasty like comfort food. We definitely qualify as regulars even if I've been remiss in my check-ins. read more

Not many places in a food court will give you free refills, or accept a credit card for two bucks. Johnny Rockets does both, cheerfully. And they've got Boca vegetarian burgers available as a free substitute for the beef patty in any of their burgers. All of these practices make me glad to give them a few bucks when I get thirsty or hungry. One oddity: you don't get 'refills' so much as you get 'a new drink for free'. This was the best Johnny Rockets experience of all time. The other night I went to the movies with 3 of my friends at Phipps Plaza and we were a little worried that everything would be closed because it was so late. However, once we realized Johnny Rockets was still open we all simultaneously agreed. Even though one of my friends had never even been there, she agreed because we wouldn't stop talking about how much we loved it, so I really hoped that J.R. would deliver otherwise I would be so embarrassed. I've eaten at the same J.R. my entire life (Georgetown location) and I always loved it because the burgers are amazing but I was never especially blown away with their hospitality. So our server's name was/is Roberto Duran. He was phenomenal, from the time he sat us until he cleared our plates and took our payment. He started the meal greeting us with a smile and telling us about the specials, he took our milkshake orders and I told him it was my friend's first time eating there and that she was excited. He promptly returned with waters, and took our order while we waited for all of our shakes to be ready, and right as he was walking away he gave us each a nickel to put into the jukebox! I looooove 50's music so this blew my mind. He came back with our milkshakes (that had extra whipped cream, because we asked) which were so delicious, you would've thought he dropped our food off because we all got so quiet after taking our first sips. Next was our food which took probably all of 8 min to prepare and come out (and we all got a burger or sandwich with fries). The food was perfectly seasoned and fresh and perfectly assembled. My only complaint was that my sandwich was so hot that it burned my mouth when I tried to eat it so I had to eat my fries until it cooled down. Other than that everything was perfect. He came back to check on us throughout the meal and was attentive when we needed anything. He cleared our plates when we were finished and even offered dessert even though they were closing. So even though I was stuffed, I had to get a brownie to go because Roberto described as fresh and moist. (He even put whipped cream on it for me!)
