This is the type of bar you find up and down Duval Street in Key West. Two guys on stage playing classic rock tunes. The circle bar was packed with the echoes of laughter as we entered. Beer placards affixed to the walls with an out of place five foot tall orange gorilla holding a huge bottle of Dom Perignon over his head. No reservations permitted but got seated immediately. This is the place to go for a cheap happy hour and big hamburgers. Ordered the Big Smokey Bacon Burger with well done onion rings. I must say, the burger was absolutely delicious and the cold craft beer complemented it perfectly. The gender neutral bathroom was clean and fit the dive bar mold with an array of stickers covering the paper towel dispensor with black chalk boards wrapped around the walls. Lots of strange chalk designs but could not find the piece of chalk to leave my mark. For some odd reason half the toilet paper case was on the floor. Could have been much better. Came early, mid-afternoon, looking for the dive bar vibe, some food, and a few drinks. Best part of the visit was the bartender, (who was awesome) and also functioning as the wait staff, hostess, busing tables. She was literally the only one working out front with a growing lunch crowd. The inside felt touristy and dirty. The food was average (at best). The smoke house burger was drowning in a blue cheese sauce, literally swimming on the plate, no onions and old rubbery bacon. The standard froze fries spread around the remainder of the plate. Stopped by Johnnie Brown's in Delray Beach on a Sunday afternoon after lunch. They had a band performing, which made for a fun vibe. My friend and I snagged a couple of chairs at the small bar to keep catching up. The crowd was mostly seasoned in age folks just enjoying themselves, which surprisingly added to the atmosphere. One lady was trying to flirt with my friend, which was bold considering most would have thought we were a couple. All in fun or liquid courage, I wonder. Service was a bit of a miss -- the bartender was hella cool but struggled with the frozen drinks, and mine came less than half frozen. After that, we stuck with bottles of beer. This is the place to go for hamburgers and live music. At the corner of Atlantic Ave and the train tracks with no cover charge. Had a tiki hut feel and a small menu. Big burger with a soft bun with a mountain of French fries covered with Parmesan cheese but the fries were a little soggy. Had the hummus and vegetable appetizer and it was very fresh. The burger was juicy and pretty good but it was lacking cheese I don't know if they just use thin slices but if I were to go back I'd ask for extra cheese. The garlic parm fries were really good and my husband was stealing them off my plate. I'd defintely come back here if I wanted a safe bet on food and not trying to venture out. Straight up classic rock, 70s, 80s, the songs you know in two seconds and can't help but sing. And they were so engaging! They were getting everyone into it. Talking to the crowd, making eye contact, hyping people up. You could tell he actually cared that everyone was having a great time, and that kind of energy spreads fast. The dance floor filled up quickly. People were actually into it. Singing. Dancing. Smiling at each other. It had that old-school rock energy that makes the whole place feel alive. Honestly, it was so refreshing to hear that kind of Classic Rock on that stage again. That's the sound that just feels right there and that's what Johnnie Brown's is all about! This self seating restaurant is pretty good and a fun scene on the main strip of Delray Beach. There is live music and lots of waiters all around. Took about 7 minutes to see a server last night after-- he was alright. Not super attentive but the food and drinks came out quickly and tasted pretty good. My dad was not a big fan of the not pictured coconut shrimp but I liked them a lot with the sauce they were served with. The ribs were very tender. The bbq quesadilla was not very melted with cheese. First of all what a fun place...as me and my friend walked in the incredible house band was playing one of my favorite carlos Santana songs " black magic woman" which for the sake of trivia was performed by santana at the 2nd woodstock in 94 not at the original woodstock.
