After calling the Malibu branch, I reached Ludo, who informed me they didn't have her size or the color she wanted. But he didn't stop there--he offered to track down a pair and mail them if he found them. He assured me her birthday would be saved and that we'd get her these shoes! To my surprise, he called the next day after tracking down a pair and mailed them right away, just in time for my girlfriend to receive them on her birthday. (He also included a very sweet birthday note.) The shoes went on to be, in her words, "the best pair of shoes I have ever owned." I understand retail can be busy, but professionalism is simple: acknowledge the customer, communicate clearly, and manage expectations respectfully. As someone who runs departments in the film and television industry, I can say this plainly - if one of my team members handled a guest or anybody that way, we'd have a serious conversation about standards. And now, I am a parent, a Dad who now has the honor to buy shoes for my own, three beautiful daughters as they gear up for the school year. It still looks like a nice building, but most of the units are vacant, the common area is missing some of the nicer decorations it had in the past (e.g., fishtanks, plants, etc.), and there is hardly any foot traffic. Hopefully they bounce back and get some tenants that will breathe some new life into the place, but based on how many people left and didn't come back after the fires earlier this year and how slow the rest of the city is recovering, it could be a while before we see any real improvement here.
