Dr Saragas has been my eye doctor for two years now. He's taken great care of my eyes and everyone else on his staff has been super nice.

I like him but he's a little crooked. Bad about letting you know your costs up front and won't give up the scrip.

As others have noted, Mary can seem brusque at first, but she is just efficient and knows her business.

I am so incredibly frustrated with this office. They claimed that they didn't receive a referral…read moreprior to my visit although my doctor's office claimed they did. They claimed they didn't receive payment from my insurance although my insurance claimed they did. I can't get ahold of anyone to help straighten out these errors, and when I do happen to speak with someone after spending hours calling, they aren't helpful (e.g., tell me to wait for a message through the online portal that never comes). The service is terrible here. AVOID at all costs!

The doctor we see is very good and deserves 4-5 stars. But the office staff and office operations…read moreare abysmal. First, even with three people in office staff area, you call and call and call, and most of the time NOBODY picks up..you are told you are number 2 in call list..and then within minutes told to call another time. One day I called 8 times, each time with an endless hold and hangup. Secondly, if you have prescriptions such as eyedrops and want them renewed or sent to Mail Order or Pharmacy, GOOD LUCK! Staff seems incapable of sending a correct prescription. In one case it took us a month and 3 attempts with different faxes to mail order to try and fix it, finally they got qty correct but no refills instead of 90 day normal 3 refills, meaning having to suffer thru it again!i The office appears to be heavily engaged in processing as many patients as possible for exams and tests but terrible at support or answering phone! I mean abysmal!

It is a privilege to write about Dr. Sang and her team. Not only is Dr. Sang an elite and amazing…read moredoctor, but she shows compassion and really cares. Sometimes, that makes you feel better and is more needed than the treatments! At a time when I feared losing my vision due to macular degeneration, she was reassuring and supportive , and always answers my never ending list of questions, and with patience. Another side of Dr. Sang that I recently learned about is her mentorship. There are a group of young college grads working there who are taking a gap year and preparing to get into medical school. She is so giving and proud of how many of these interns have gone on to great careers. Each time you go for an appointment, it's a "major production." There are so many steps in the process and I have come to understand why it takes so long -- they take no shortcuts! There is a huge staff that supports Dr. Sang and each one has a specialty, from the people who answer the phone and make appts. to the people who do complicated eye scans. I don't envy the appt. people as everyone seems to want a different time -- including me -- and it's hard to make everyone happy, although they try. I guess my only complaint is that I wish I could turn back Dr. Sang's clock about 25 years so that she'd be in practice for another 25+ years. While she is around, I feel incredibly lucky for her to be my doctor!

Dr. Sang is the best doctor of any type that I have ever had. She is extraordinarily thorough,…read morehighly skilled, and takes as much time as necessary to go over every detail. She is also extremely warm, compassionate and can explain complex problems in a very clear way. I have been seeing her for many years ever since she did emergency laser surgery on me after an accident. Yes, sometimes the wait is long, but you are told in advance how much time to allow for your appointment. It is absolutely worth the wait if you want the most comprehensive, experienced evaluation/follow up. All the staff are great. Monica is a gem and all the technicians and students revere Dr. Sang, for good reason. I always take Dr. Sang's recommendations regarding other aspects of my health as well. She looks at my general health and reviews all my test results and gives me solid, thoughtful advice.

I have already been…read morewaiting for 4 hours, and we were just told that because they are short-staffed, it could take another 4 hours. An approximately 8-hour wait is unacceptable. On top of this extraordinary wait, the patient workflow is very inefficient. I was seen separately by three different nurses, and registration-related steps were handled twice in separate interactions. There appears to be unnecessary duplication at a time when the hospital is telling patients that it does not have enough staff. I understand that hospitals can become busy and emergencies take priority. But being short-staffed is an operational problem that hospital management needs to address. Patients should not be expected to absorb the consequences by waiting an entire day for care. If staffing is inadequate, management should have a contingency plan and organize available resources more efficiently. The combination of an extreme wait, inadequate staffing, repetitive steps, and poor patient flow suggests a larger management problem rather than an unavoidable delay. My criticism is not directed at the individual nurses or frontline staff. It is directed at the system and management. Mass Eye and Ear is a major hospital, and patients should be able to expect far better organization, communication, and respect for their time.
