Steve Knght was pleasant to work with at first, but then became very rude, unhelpful, and not honest about costs as time went on. I lived out of town and when his quote for counters came at a significantly larger cost then he originally quoted, would not help me find a suitable replacement for a rental and only guided me to places with no pictures to use. He then CHOSE the counters without my approval and was dishonest about the cost to put them in, asking me for an additional $6k months later that somehow "wasn't on the invoice". From speaking with others in Santa Barbara this is a typical experience. If you choose him, account for 150% or so of the price he quoted you initially. My tenant is also a handyman and was inspecting his crews work. He said he had to be on top of them to mount the cabinets correctly, and somehow storage space and cabinets just disappeared. If he hadn't been onsite I think it would have been very poorly constructed.

I was opening a new business and our current flooring contractor looked like he wasn't going to be able to get out epoxy floors done at the 11th hour. We called SB Surfacing and they sent a guy out the next day and were prepared to get our floors done after hours on the weekend just to help us out of a pinch! Turns out that our existing flooring person was able to come through (sorta), but I so appreciated the service from SB Surfacing and will definitely use them on my next job!

When I complained the owner aggressively defended his crew. Opposite of the customer is always right. They specifically agreed to put the new unit where I wanted it in the attic, I got NOTHING of the kind. They just stuck where it was easiest/quickest for them. When I balked, THE OWNER'S snap reply was that the person representing him at the time was no longer with them. Now it is almost impossible to access the furnace. They ran the furnace exhaust pipe to a completely different roof vent, again, one that was easier. The FILTER HOUSING was BOTCHED - they put in using sheet larger head metal screws that PROTRUDED INTO THE FILTER HOUSING such that the replaceable pleated filter's frame was crushed. An air diverter was put on the wall without using the new painted screws; instead they used fugly sheet metal screws AND screwed them in so tight the register doesn't set flat on the wall. Poor value for the money

Finally got a hold of someone and we discussed a major remodel I'm planning. She asked me to email over the bid set, which I did immediately, and she explained that someone from the team would get back to me "within 24 hours". That was two weeks ago and I still haven't heard a thing. Rude and inconsiderate. I own a business myself and even if I'm not able to accommodate a potential client, I don't just leave them hanging. Allen might be the greatest company in the world once on a project, but I have a hard time trusting a firm that can't even be bothered with basic communication.
