The restaurant was filthy, no clean tables had to wait for them to clear one with no chairs and get chairs ourselves. No refills, only 1 glass of tea in an hour. The service was friendly and quick. Considering it was crawfish season and a Sunday, the waiting was not long at all. The Combo Pan, which includes crawfish, boiled shrimp and snow crab cluster was flavorful. I like it semi-spicy and ordered a medium spice, which was enough. The crawfish were small mostly. Great atmosphere. Really enjoyed the music! Went with some friends, who told the waitress it was our first time and she gave us free bread pudding! It was AMAZING. Highly recommend. As my Husband and I was trying to figure out what we were going to have today I suggested John E's because we had never been there. We started with the appetizer boudin ball's sad to say as long as I have been eating them this was the first for me they had file seasoning in them NOT GOOD.... I order the combo shrimp and crawfish I sub the FF for the red beans and rice. The crawfish tasted like the frozen ones you get from the store that has the muddy taste to them and as for as the red beans and rice definitely not what they would have served in New Orleans. We don't fry our sausage and put it on top of the beans we cook ours in the beans. Yes I am aware that most Texans have not eaten real Cajun food or they wouldn't be posting how good something is that taste like crap. Sorry but true. The crawfish is hit or miss. The other menu items are good compared to the other options in the area. The reason I gave this place two stars...the service. I have been here multiple times and every time I think the service can't be worse than the last time. Some how they can actually get worse and constantly do. With there weird hours of operation and "renovations". I can't see this place staying open too much longer unless they make some serious management changes. John E's could be great if the staff cared. read more

Waitress was quick to visit our table, the crawfish was not served warm matter of fact they had been sitting, corn or pototes was warm not hot no seasoning on the corn or pototes as well as the mushrooms. Gumbo was good. It was our first time there, and we did wait a good hour but it was on a busy Saturday night. It was sure worth the wait! We sat at the bar and waited for our names to be called although we were skipped. Due to two bigger parties that were behind us. (we understood it's hard to get two tables open at the same time when its really busy!) Our servers name was something like Jersey? We told her it was our first time and all. She suggested her favorite appetizers and told us the specials on the Crawfish and the BEER! Needless to say we ordered just about everything she suggested. It was soooo DELICIOUS!! The Crawfish had just enough season on them and the Hut Fondue was great. Although you may need to order some extra bread along with it. First things first...the good...all the food we ate on our first trip to the Crawfish Hut. Fried pickles were probably best we have eaten. Crawfish, red beans and rice, corn and potaoes all nicely seasoned and just enough spice for me. I would think about going back for the food. Now to the bad..the service. We did go on a busy sunday after all and expected a wait. We got two seats at the bar and waited until we were seated. Then we sat and sat and sat some more until we had to flag someone down to even acknowledge we were there. We asked for a waitress twice! We sat right where every worker passed coming out of the kitchen at least 5 times each. Once we got our waitress, ordered our food and then finished our first tray of crawfish..the tray sat and sat and sat some more. I swear at least 15 workers passed our table at least 5 times each and no one bothered to take the dirty dishes away from the table. BIG pet peeve. I do not want to look at a tray full of crawfish heads and stacked dirty napkins. I would BEG the manager or owners to talk to their staff about taking dirty dishes away from tables even if it's not their table. That is what good customer service is all about. If we would ever attempt to come back it would be for the food alone and on a less busy day. read more

Warning: This place is nothing like the old place. The shrimp were just like the Swanson brand in the freezer, the fried fish was soggy. They use paper plates with paper cups. The service was remarkably poor. We were ordering and next to the last person and the waitress starts talking to her friends, we had to make her come back and finish our order. After waiting and waiting I had to go get my own sugar for the tea, after getting our appetizers I finally had to go get plates for everyone. We sent almost everyone's food back except the crawfish which was ok. Funny we were getting ready to leave and the owner shows up in a limo. Went to John E's for the first time this season. I live about a mile away so it's convenient, even on a work night. We go for the crawfish so I'll focus on that. They were seasoned well (medium spice) but small in size. That is to be expected in January. I like mine dipped in butter with the seasoning sprinkled in for some extra heat. The "butter" was a nasty margarine substance which came to the table separated with a yellow film on top and watery liquid on bottom. The manager on duty did walk around and ask if everything was ok. I asked what the product was and was told "butter". I'll spare the details but needless to say, I disagree. Service was good but I agree with other comments...corners have been cut at John E's to the point it is likely to lead to the demise of this place which is unfortunate. It has potential and has been better in years past. A few years ago we could order a cocktail and the fried catfish along with other menu items were yummy. No longer the case. Sad. Crosby needs John E's so...step it up! Someone...please care enough to make the needed changes. This COULD be a great year-round restaurant. read more

Welp I agree with the good old reviews and the bad new ones ... I really hope this place can get on Bar Rescue to help because they are DEFINITELY on their way to being OOB ( out of Business). Last crawfish season I was in here often ... Crawfish was always great along with their hurricanes ! But now .. The crawfish is still ok but the bar has vanished. I brought my BFF which was her first time coming after me bragging and she was definitely confused as this was nothing like I described. I think we were mostly confused as to why they would give us a styrofoam cup, serve food on a paper plate and yet give us silver ware ? Just go with plastic ware.. It makes more sense ! I don't expect this place will be here much longer, which is sad, but the old John E days were Awesome ! read more

I've been driving an hour to eat at John e's restaurant in Crosby, TX for a few years, today was the worst experience EVER. First we were served a pitiful tiny little appetizer, so small that when we asked for sauce, we had finished the food before she could bring the sauce back to the table. The next issue was the fact that after the appetizer, we had to wait just over an hour to get our crawfish, shrimp, and chicken strips. Of course to eat our meal my children went and found us some silverware. The kids also walked to the bar and had our drinks refilled. The men's bathroom was a total mess, toilet stopped up, the other toilet had no paper. There was no paper towels in the men's or women's restroom and only one of the paper towel dispensers were working at the hand wash in the lobby. I spoke to the manager after I paid the $ 100+ bill (I didn't want her to think I was trying to get a free meal), and told her about these issues. I also mentioned that I had been observing the fact that she had been walking around the restaurant the entire time we were there and most of her staff were just playing games with each other or just standing around visiting and she (the manager) wasn't doing anything about them NOT doing there jobs. I don't think I will be eating at John e's for a while since there is another great place to eat crawfish just down the street. I really hope someone who cares about this place does something besides make excuses, this used to be one of my favorite places to eat and I told many friends and family about it. Well after the reopening the menu now sucks. The service is questionable. After getting our plates and drinks arrived it was clear that every effort was made to save a buck. $15 for the plate that came with 8 shrimp on it and a hand full of fries. While the chicken on the chicken tender plate was ground chicken pressed into the shape of a chicken tender. With the other plate that had chicken tenders on The sweet tea taste like brown water with a hint of sweet n low in it. Which means they probably reuse the tea to make several batches and the drinks only came with a little ice. The tables are all close together while there is a big open space in the middle of the room. The only good part was that the girl that waited on us was nice and i feel she tried her best to be sure her tables we taken care of but that's about it. Maybe if you order crawfish the food quality will be better. But we definitely won't be going back. read more

First time there. Always ate at another crawfish place down the street, but this was some of the best crawfish I've ever had. We ordered 5 pounds of the hot and they were so good and spicy we had to order another 5. Atmosphere is good, plenty of tv's showing different sports games and our waitress had our cups refilled before we were even done. Also had the fried pickles and they were good too. Family friendly. Crawfish hut is the place to eat!! The service is amazing, got seated right away, super friendly hosts, awesome servers, and not to mention the crawfish! It was perfectly seasoned and the whole atmosphere was like i was right at home in Louisiana.
