I have only been here a handful of times. A couple times as the crawfish hut and a couple times as John e's. Each time I come it gets worse. They have changed their menu and the selection is very slim. Everything is served on paper plates/cups. I ordered a po boy and it was literally just a piece of bread with fried fish on it. The waitress asked if I wanted the lettuce and tomatoes. I told her yes and she brought them on a plate. Well, it was bagged salad and I had to assemble my po boy myself, which I must add I paid $10 for. We also waited for silverware before we could eat. And the waitress was trying her best, but she gave the excuse that they're just so busy in the back. The restaurant was only about half full!! Overall, it was just a bad experience service and food wise and I am done giving this place chances . read more

I have had the priviledge of eating at both the competing crawfish places in our little town and they are very close in recipe. HOWEVER, I definitely like the flavor profile of the Crawfish HUT over the "other place". This "battle of best crawfish" has been in the making for some time, and i believe that it has definitely been worth the wait! Great crawfish. The food delivered around us looked just as amazing as the crawfish we got at our table. The Brownie ala mode was delicious. This was our favorite place around for crawfish in the area. We would typically go here 20+ times a season even though we are 30 minutes away. We have been waiting for the season to get going again so we could enjoy it again. Well... we were extremely disappointed with the whole experience this time. We were there with a party if 8 last night and left so unhappy. Where to start... I guess the bar. It's gone. They now only have beer and wine. Not everyone on our group enjoys beer and wine and wanted a cocktail of some sort. So they had tea. The menu has been reduced to something with about half of the selection vs last year's menu. Of the 8 of us, only 3 eat crawfish so the others came to eat something else. Their choices were very limited. We ordered 3 appetizers. Fried mushrooms, fried zucchini, and some kind of french fry concoction. The fried appetizers had thick, flavorless, breading and appear to be frozen. These were allways finished off quickly in the past but sat on the table hardly touched this time. I don't even know what to say about the french fry thing. .. we just sent it back. One guest ordered the fried catfish. It had been her favorite of anywhere around last year. She couldn't eat it. It was soggy and fisheier than it used to be. One guest ordered fried shrimp. Even though they had fresh shrimp, the fried shrimp looked like Gordon's frozen shrimp. Those were sent back. Two of the guest ordered grilled chicken. Neither of them ate it because it was dry and not seasoned at all. All of these dinners were comped by the manager on duty. There were some good things. The boiled shrimp great. Large, seasoned well, and cooked well. The crawfish were really good too. They were the only thing that were as good as they were last year. One issue with the crawfish... you could only order 4 pound. Me and another guest typically order and eat 5 pounds every time. Not this time. 4 pounds only. My daughter is 10 and can maybe eat 2 pounds if she has help... we had to order her 4 pounds too and threw out more than half. You can really tell the owner has gone through a lot of work to squeeze every dollar out of this place this year. No bar = cheaper liquor license. Frozen, cheap food served. No more fancy plastic plates and glasses. Now it's all paper plates and Styrofoam cups. I'm guessing the 4 pound limit on crawfish is to force the customer to buy an additional 4 pounds even if they only want 1 or two. I know last year, many times, we would order a couple of extra pounds after finishing the original order. We did get to see the owner pull up in a cheesey white lemo as we were leaving. I don't know where the bad reviews are coming from, but speaking from experience eating here, I definitely recommend this place to try out. The crawfish is great and fried pickles for appetizers is a must! They are not soaked in oil and they add a hint of some Cajun seasoning on top . The atmosphere is clean and at times the servers are busy, but will not leave you unattended. Crawfish season in the Houston area usually means one thing: a trip to Crosby for a visit to the crawfish shack. Sure that place is good, but we decided to gamble with John E's down the street, and boy, did we hit the jackpot. This place is not a BYOB, but they have a full bar. What we really loved about this place was the seating area, the fast service, and the variety on the menu. Craving crawfish but your date hates it? That's ok, she can get some crablegs or cajun pasta, how about a po' boy. Safe to say we found our new favorite crawfish place. Will definitely be back. read more

I thought the food and service were both good. We had a large group with 7 kids and the waitress and the staff were very patient and helpful. The ettouffe and the shrimp po' boy were very good. Seafood is always a little on the expensive side IMO, however the prices at John-E's were reasonable when compared to other seafood places. We will definitely be back. So...Part2. We have been back a couple of times. I changed my rating from 4 Stars to 3. The service is still great. However, sometimes the food quality isn't as great. On today's visit, my wife got a shrimp Po'Boy. Huge sandwich loaf of bread . . . Seven little shrimp. Didn't even come close to filling the sandwich up. I tried some of the fried oysters. They were mushy and cold. I can't say that we will never eat here again, but we will definitely consider other options first. read more

Had the stuffed bread and John E Catfish. Catfish was really good, but a bit overpriced for amount of food. The stuffed bread had plenty of crawfish tails with good flavor and texture. Since it was my first time here, I was given a free bread pudding which was nothing short of Amazing!! Service was flawless (not busy when I was there), and I had a very attentive server. Tonight I decided for Valentine's day to order dinner to-go at John E's. Small order of 4 pounds of crawfish with sausage and potatoes and they tell me it'll be ready within 15 minutes. So I leave, get there in 15 minutes and they tell me to take a seat at the bar to wait for my order. After paying and waiting another 15 minutes the bartender sits 2 beers in front of me (I'm 19) and after a moment tells me she's "placing these here because some guys ordered it and want to sit on this side of the bar." And says she'll bring it to me whenever it's ready. I kept my cool and found a spot to wait for my order and after another 10 minutes she comes and tells me she can't find my order and she doesn't know what happened. How hard is it to get 4 pounds of crawfish out with a 50 minute notice? Overall food was good but service seemed repulsive and impolite. Next year crawfish shack! read more

I just popped in for a beer so this rating is based off that and the fact that they had the Pacers playoff game on so I could catch the end of the game. I have been to the Hut about 6 times now. Their food has consistantly been very good. I have had their crawfish etouffee which was delish...My favorite is their fried catfish and fried shrimp...very good. Everything is very flavorful. You have got to try the alligator bites as well...mmm ohh and can't forget the red beans and rice. On my fav list. Every person I have taken with me has loved it! We are out of crawfish season now but their crawfish is YUMMY! Very spicy and good. Got to hit it when they are back in season. read more

Crawfish are just ok, overpriced for quality and they only let you order in 4lb increments. The other menu items are mushy and taste like they are pre-breaded and frozen. No grilled, baked or boiled options unless you are getting the boiled crawfish. Service is always slow and over the multiple times we have been here, there are always mistakes from the kitchen or problems like cold gumbo or over seasoned food. The owner/manager is always there at dinner time, but is usually getting loaded at the bar rather than overseeing the waitstaff and cooks. He isn't willing to make corrections or even apologize for the poor quality of the food that gets sent out. This place is officially off of my family's list. read more

I am a natural born Louisiana girl and I have to say that the crawfish was not only perfectly seasoned, but there was not one bad one in the entire batch! As the new-ish competitor to Crosby's venerable Crawfish Shack, we had to try it (and I like supporting local business). But I gave them three chances and am here to tell you this place doesn't even try! Our first time we were sold crawfish etouffee with crawfish so overcooked they were tasteless balls of paste. The last chance we gave them they served us fried catfish that came in ugly strips and was barely cooked inside: I've NEVER been served nearly raw catfish like that before. (No cole slaw?, COME ON). I've lived in Crosby for all of 7 days and I've been here twice! Let me preface this by saying I looooooooove crawfish! I've only eaten the crawfish here so my 5 star rating is based only on my crawfish experience. Let me also say I'm married to a native of Louisiana and I've eaten my fair share of really good crawfish in both Shreveport, Metairie and New Orleans. I like mine really spicy. At the Crawfish Hut you have a choice of heat. We have ordered the hottest on both occasions and have not been disappointed. They aren't afraid to bring the heat and the flavor! That's the important part. Their seasoning has great flavor. It's not just about the heat. It's a perfect blend. On both occasions they were some of the biggest crawfish I've ever been served in my life. So much so, that we took pictures because we didn't think anyone would believe us. Some looked like small lobsters. It's a little pricey for what we are accustomed to across the state line but not out of line with other Houston establishments. It's certainly not going to keep us from eating our typical 10lbs for two. Our server told us on our last visit that on Monday nights it's 3.50 a lb (we may become regulars) and they have an all you can eat night (I don't remember the price but it sounded good to me). I'm a little afraid of all you can eat. I don't think there is a such thing as me getting full on crawfish. I usually just get tired of peeling before I get full. I would be afraid to see how much I could eat if I turned myself loose. They might throw us out, change their mind or make us pay more. They were that good! We really liked the sports bar atmosphere even though my hubby is an Aggie (yes he grew up in Louisiana but went to A&M) and I went to Alabama. I would be a little scared to eat crawfish in a place that didn't have a Saints and/or LSU flag, jersey, autographed football or other memorabilia on the wall. As long as they don't mind our representation of the SEC we will call it a mutual respect and be loyal customers. We love the patio, especially the TV's on the patio. Soooooo very excited about the long crawfish season at a great crawfish place so close to the new dream house we are building on Lake Houston that we plan to retire in. I came in here last month and to take out a couple buds on their first crawfish mouth excursion and I didn't have to do any talking besides ordering cocktails and food- the bartender did all the talking and explaining so I could handle my own business of trying to put these mudbugs on the Endagered Species List. We drove to Crosby with the intentions to go to Crawfish Shack but to only find out it was Drive thru" only which I just wanted somewhere to sit down and enjoy my meal considering we drove pretty far. So we decided to come here Eventhough I was a bit skeptical since I was afraid the crawfish might not be as good as Crawfish Shack. Well the crawfish was delicious! I was not disappointed at all. We also had to fried pickles and boudin was was so good. I usually hate boudin but my mom and bf ordered it so I took a bite and was so surprised how good it was. My first experience here and it started off bad. Normal customer of Crawfish Shack, but didn't want to fill up my ice chest with beer. We wanted to sit outside and were told we would have to wait for our place on the list to be called. There were 5 empty tables outside and none of the parties in front of us wanted to sit outside. So I was told by the hostess that I would have to wait my turn on the waiting list to be seated outside (rudely). After 15 minutes and a beer (the bartender was quick to take my order, and nice to boot), I asked again and was told to wait (rudely). I pointed out that none of the parties in front of me want to sit outside, and we requested this from the beginning. People from the other parties even asked why they would not seat us outside. Then two couples came in and requested a table outside and were told the same thing...get in line. So after another 10 minutes, and forging my alliance with the couples that just arrived, I asked another hostess why we were not allowed to be seated outside. I firmly stated to her, with the other hostess annoyingly looking on, that we WANT to sit outside but told we would have to wait our turn on the waiting list (behind customers waiting for an interior table). Why did we have to wait on a list for the interior tables when we requested an outside table (5 are open)? The new hostess told me it would be no problem and took us outside promptly. All the while the original hostess protesting. I don't understand why she would make us wait behind parties waiting for an interior table. However, DEVIN was very accommodating and made sure we were happy with our table. She sat the two couples right after us. Thank you DEVIN! Now to dinner...we ordered the appetizer sampler and were not disappointed. The fried pickles are some of the best I've ever had, and I have eaten a lot of fried pickles. The boudin and andouille were delicious, and the calamari was soft. I ordered 5 pounds of crawfish for my daughter and myself. My other daughter had the sliders and my friend had the fried shrimp. He is not a crawfish person, but came along for the beer. I had a taste of my daughter's sliders and they were great. My buddy said the shrimp were not overcooked and well seasoned. As for the reason we were there, the crawfish, they were great. We got them with medium seasoning, not one straight tail in the bunch. The only issue I had was that they may have needed to change the boil water out. But it being the rush on Friday night, this was not a major problem and they were still delicious. Although we had a bad experience at the beginning, I was very impressed with the service and quality. Sorry Crawfish Shack, but I am taking my business down the street to the Hut. The food is decent, I think their crawfish is better than other surrounding places. Where we were sat was hot & felt like no AC at all. It was toward the back of the restaurant. None of the high chairs had buckles so my little one kept trying to climb out, they were also dirty & needed to be wiped down. Tried to enjoy dinner while holding her but she was very wiggly & kept trying to grab everything & I was sweating bad. Very miserable experience, so if you have wiggly babies....bring your own high chair or something that buckles, maybe even a portable fan. read more

When our food arrived the platter was missing a few items and the server said they were out of some items and never told us. She and or the kitchen just decided to give us extra fish which isn't great anyways. Discovered this diamond in the rough place tonight...when we arrived was greeted by happy staff right away even though it was busy...the wait time was nominal the fried catfish was perfect and plenty. My wife ordered the roast beef dish but it was not available...the owner made it up to us and was very pleasant...the food and hometown of Crosby Tx atmosphere was excellent. The crawfish was amazing.... the service was the worst I've ever experienced in my life!!! We walk in and the hostess was distracted because a waitress was yelling at her saying not to sit her again.... we get to our table our waitress doesn't greet us for almost six minutes we order our drinks finally and she never comes back the hostess has to come take our drink order and bring us drinks and menus!! During this time we watched a total of 2 other waitresses yelling at the hostess, I felt so bad for her she was so nice and they weren't even that busy and she was at least trying to help them!! And our waitress was rude to us imagine that... other people felt the same way I over heard the table behind us complaining about the same things. I ordered chicken & sausage gumbo as an appetizer and it was great. nice spice little heat, but not too much. it had nice size pieces of chicken and sausage in there and a little rice. My main dish was the half and half. fried crawfish tails and etouffee. the fried tails were plump and lightly battered and the etouffee was very good as well. but needed a little hot sauce...but most do for me anyways. fries were good as well. cocktail and tartar sauces were fresh and had good flavor. you could taste a little hors radish in the cocktail sauce but it wasn't overpowering. for desert we had the bread pudding. we liked it allot. service was great and the chef - Tristen stopped by the table to check on things. good experience.
