I came with my mom and we both had our hair cut and conditioned. We were in dire need of it too bc it had been months.. Ok maybe almost a year for myself, don't judge me! Cutting my hair is stressful even though its nearly down to my waist, OK?! Anyway we both saw Jessica who is super sweet and friendly. Mom went first so she could get her color started and I waited in the front area; was offered coffee and donuts/bagels. Once it was my turn, Jessica got a feel for what I was interested in doing and made me feel at ease that she wasn't going to cut off more than I asked for (which surprisingly has happened many times at other salons!) Let's just say, my mom and I walked out of there feeling AWESOME! My hair hasn't looked this nice in years and I love how she added some long subtle layers that look so nice when I blow dry and curl the ends. We went to pay and I was almost charged a gloss fee for my mom but I asked about this b/c it was never mentioned it was extra since we both had conditions included.. Jessica promptly came over and said 'no problem, I forgot to say that was an extra amount so don't worry about it.' I truly appreciate that she came over immediately and spoke to us about it since we were confused and let that slide. Salon is cute and cozy and they keep it SO CLEAN! It's nice to see hair dressers sweeping the floor every 20 mins or so to clean up the hair trimmings. It made me realize they take pride in the look of their workplace and I knew as a customer it was going to be a pleasant experience overall. If only this salon wasn't nearly an hour away! My friend Recommended me about the John Anthony salon, so ever since I panned to grow my hair I knew I had to do a straightening, so I went there , they suggested me for boys it's better to do hair relaxing rather than keratin treatment . I had down the hair relaxing and my hair looks awesome after that process , but after few days it stared to curl again , so called them and informed about the same , they asked to stop by again , I went there again to do the treatment , this time the owner himself did the relaxing for me , and it's worked perfectly for me .. Simply the Best! Have been a loyal customer for 20 years. Truly the best salon I have been too. Top notch across the board. Stylists are true pros and the atmosphere is classy but down to earth. I moved from Edison to Hunterdon County (over an hour away) 10 years ago - tried a few local "highly rated" salons in a pinch for convenience and was totally disappointed. Decided it was worth the over 2 hour drive to get there and be totally happy with my hair. My dad was a sought after hair dresser in Manhattan at all the best places including on 57th Street and The Plaza Hotel where mega wealthy people and celebs came demanding the best. By luck I grew up with the best of the best as far as my hair. Amazing place. I went in with a color correction issue from a different salon and the owner John chatted with me on the specific details I was looking for to fix it. He asked me what colors/ tones I saw in certain hair samples from my perspective which I've never heard from any other stylist ever and really shows they care about getting exactly how you want to perceive yourself with your hair. I can't believe I haven't written a review: The appointment process was super easy. Requested an appointment online and got a call from Nancy the next business day and I was able to get an appointment with Jenna the next day! As for Jenna, she is absolutely wonderful! This is my 3rd time I've come to her for color. 1st was a full head of highlights, 2nd was a glaze, this time I went for an ombre look. She nailed it each and every time! She was super meticulous in highlighting my whole head. And was never pushy about color, she worked with me to make sure it was doable. As for the ombre, no dip dyed ends for this girl. The ombre blends nicely from root to tip. Prices are also reasonable. You get great service, for a great price. They've got a customer for life from me! I went there on a living social voucher back. And I was expecting to be treated kinda well.. Let's just be honest.. shitty bc most places do when you use a coupon... But they were super nice and professional. I got my hair cut and blown by Jessica and she really did a great job. I'm super annoying when it comes to my hair but she def didn't act huffy or annoyed by any means. She was patient and listened. And I believe that is key to keeping a client. The only downside to this place is I have called 3x already for a follow up appointment but every time they seem to put me on hold than answer than put me on hold again. Until I get impatient and hang up. Maybe get more secretaries to handle the front desk? Anyways going try to call for another appointment soon... Wish me luck ! ;) read more

I recently moved to OT and was very apprehensive about finding a new hair stylist. I researched a few local places on Yelp and decided to try John Anthony Salon in town. Their website is very easy to use for booking appointments and informative on their services and stylists. First impression- the salon is small, very clean and modern. It's located in Bi State Shopping Center, so there's plenty of parking, which is a plus. Everyone I met was courteous from the second I walked in the door, including Nancy at the front desk and Raquel, who washed my hair. I scheduled an appointment with one of their younger stylists, Jessica, and she was wonderful. She took the time to listen to my hair concerns, likes and dislikes. I showed her some pictures of styles that I like and she came up with a great cut. She did an amazing job and was an absolute pleasure to talk to. I had somebody come to my house to do my hair because the salon was closed the day I needed the services. She was not a professional and put no life into my hair. I asked for a very simple Updo (poofy up top and low messy bun on bottom). I asked her about five times to make it poofier and fuller. She then proceeded to just keep spraying and barely trying to pull my hair out that was tucked in. It was almost like she was afraid to touch my hair. The salon suggested that she come to my house but they should've known better when I told them it was for a fancy occasion. She almost did a DIY style I can find from Pinterest. Nothing special. I love coming to John Anthony salon - it is very close to my house so it's super convenient. John did my highlights the past 2 times and he is SO quick, knowledgable, sweet and does an amazing job. I've had my haircut with him once or twice and it was one of the best cuts I've ever had. Still loving it here. After my stylist, Jenna, moved away, I tried a different salon that is a bit easier for me to get to. I was looking to go from brownish hair to as blonde as possible. Long story short, I left with not nearly enough highlights and my hair felt so dry and tangled easily. I came back here a month later to have John work on my hair and it's very blonde and very soft. Even softer then before the bleach. I am pretty sure the name of the product they use is Olaplex, and that is what prevents the bleach from drying. I am so happy to have hair so blonde so soon that is in great condition. read more

I have been going to John Anthony Salon and been getting my hair done by Jessica for the past four years and I couldn't imagine getting it done by anyone else. I absolutely hate spending time styling my hair especially since it is very curly and frizzy. However, no matter the style cut I ask for she always makes sure it is manageable without salon training. She also has a gift for dying hair. She's creative and has a good eye for color. She is able to make all my crazy demands a reality. She most recently did a beautiful red color with purple lowlights. I always grew up just my mom cutting my hair or me cutting split ends off so I was always nervous who was going the be the first professional to cut my hair. John Anthony Salon was the first salon I had ever been to and I went with the Groupon for Kayla. I absolutely love it there especially Kayla. I told her how nervous I was and that I always had long hair so she did exactly what I wanted and kept it as long as possible, adding some layers. I ended up loving it so much I went right back to Kayla a few months later and let her chop some more off. All I told her was I want it shorter and now my hair looks so healthy and not damaged! As long time client of this salon, I expected something, boy was I wrong. Back in 2010, I lost my job. After landing an interview, I felt I wanted everything to be just right, including my hair. Money, now being an issue, I called my salon to ask if they would be able to help me out with the cost by giving me some kind of discount. It is located in the typical suburban strip-mall so you might be pleasantly surprised that the staff here seem to know how to do hair well.This place is amazing! Usually I'm hesitant with using Groupon deals because the establishments tend to be snobby to the clients; however, the entire experience from beginning to finish was great. The receptionist was extremely cordial, the woman who washed my hair (Raquel?) was amazing friendly and thorough, Irene (the stylist) was attentive to detail and very talented technically. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and explained to her what I was trying to do and she listened to me without trying to do something else entirely. You don't need an appointment but I would always recommend one. My stylist was Jenna and she was wonderful. Very clean upscale salon with exceptional customer service. I have used two different stylists here, Jenna and Jessica. Both are excellent at both cut and color. My daughters have received specialty services here ombré and up do hair styling. I love John Anthony Salon. It's conveniently less than 10 minutes away from my home & everyone there is so ridiculously nice. The stylist I go to, Jessica, is amazing with cut & color. She did my ombre last summer & it was beautiful. This year she turned my blonde ombre into a red ombre & I was obsessed. I recently had her cut off the ombre & just dye my entire head a reddish-purple & it looks & feels great! I will be going back next spring to have her re-ombre my hair. Not only was she super nice, but every other hair dresser I've gone to always talked me out of going light and she was all for it. I'm so glad I did it because it came out great and I am so happy with it. The entire staff was also super friendly - offered me something to drink, smiled as you walked passed, very outgoing. The friendliness of the staff made me feel really comfortable. After trying many salons and not being happy, I was recommended to a stylist here named Jenna, by a friend of mine whose color and cut has been looking amazing the past few months. She told me she had recently found this beautiful little salon hidden in old tappan and that I should go. From the minute I walked in I was impressed with the salon itself (clean, modern decor) and the incredibly friendly and helpful staff. From start to finish it was actually the best time I've ever had getting my hair done. It's usually so boring, but everyone who works here is friendly and talkative, even in the color room in the back I engaged in conversation with other women getting color done. The woman who washed my hair gave me the most amazing scrub/scalp massage ever. The most important part, my hair--amazing. Best cut and highlights I've ever had, no contest. She suggested i cut the back of my hair off because i hate how it flips by my shoulders, so I agreed to a sort of stacked angled bob. Jenna was so attentive to make sure I was ok with every single thing she did with my color and cut. That combined with the perfect highlighting was exactly what I needed. My hair has never looked or felt this great. They also explained that my friend will get a gift card to the salon for referring me and that if I refer anyone I will as well. No one does a referral program anymore I think it's great and I can't wait to send some friends in and I'll definitely be back! read more
