Had a haircut with Christina a few weeks ago. I went in on a Sat morning. I was called in on time. The salon was super busy yet clean, pretty, spacious and well divided inner sections and stations. Prices are pretty decent and the staff super professional and sweet. I religiOusly go to the city but I may try them out again for color this time around. This is a long overdue review. I usually get my hair colored in bayside queens but was not able to get there because of the pandemic. I found this on Instagram and saw the reviews were decent on Yelp so I made an appointment with Angela. I do not like trying to new hair places out but really wanted my hair colored. This was a lot different from other salons I've been to. The receptionist and person washing my hair were super friendly, Angela was not at all. I really regret getting my hair done there. I sent Angela a picture of what I wanted beforehand but she did not follow it and the color faded quickly. Most hair salons do not ask me if I want a blow out/ hair dried, they just do it. Walked in and was greeted so nicely and happily by the sweetest, Nicole! The interior is very clean, smells clean and looks great plus the mirrors are nice as well! After me cancelling and rescheduling 2x the same day.. they still had alot of patience and kindness towards me as their client. She was intelligent, patient, gentle, & didn't rush at all. I scheduled a hair trial/booked a stylist for my wedding in advance (of course), but received a call 3 days before my trial appointment saying the hair dresser would not be available the day of my actual wedding. Yet, it was scheduled and booked in my initial call as per the woman I spoke to on the phone from Salon S. I was completely stressed because I was assured the hair dresser had availability the day of my actual wedding. I was a longstanding customer at Salon S , but no longer go there. I felt this was extremely unprofessional. I am not one to write negative reviews , but felt this needed to be noted for future brides looking to get their hair done at Salon S. Look elsewhere! *I don't usually post a bad review but this is written on behalf of my mother-In-law who is not "YELP savvy" * New to the area I'm trying to find a salon I can go to every week. It seems In "NORTHVALE" there is several salon/spa options. I stumbled upon "SALON S" because of those big beautiful windows and lovely website. My experience there goes as follows; Receptionist; helpful and polite Staff; well presented and young bright faces. Salon; big beautiful modern, nice product display, nail and massage features, decently busy. Owner seemed to be walking around and assisting a stylist it was so nice to see! Only thing that went wrong was my shampoo/hair washer; rude, nearly soaked me (which can happen I understand) BUT woman continued under her breath comments in another language. *this was very uncomfortable for me* After 10 minutes of aniexty and vigorous "MASSAGE " I was happy it was OVER. She seemed very aggressive with the other staff members I noticed as well. Not even a smile. Who was this woman?? Why does she work there?? Anyway! My haircut and blow dry came out lovely. Forgot my stylist name because of my prior bad experience at SINK. But Honestly I would book any stylist there, all the women and men in other chairs looked GREAT as well. I've been coming to Salon S for a couple of years now to get my hair done by Angela. I tend to change up my hair often, both the color and style. Normally, this would make me nervous, but I just show Angela pictures of what I want and using those pictures and her own knowledge and experience, she's able to work with me and my very thick, dark hair and I am more than happy every single time! I used to get my hair done here years ago. For some reason i stopped. I started again 6 months ago and now i know why i stopped. They couldnt care at all about customers. Only money. They dont return messages so i messaged my stylist who also didnt return my text. As my experience was very unorganised and phoney.i was very nice to my stylist buying her lunch great tips etc. Lately her personal life seems to be interfearing with her work. She blows my hair dry in 20 min which takes everyone else 45. She was 20 min late for our appt. She mixed my haircolor wrong and it looks terrible. And she dropped my purse and not only broke my lipstick when it dropped out....she cracked my phone. I let it go but because she was so disrespectful of my text and appt....i am writing this to make others aware. read more

I posted in March of 2014, over three years ago. I have since moved to Washington, DC where I have seen four - 4- different and highly recommended hairdressers over the course of one year and my experience has been abysmal. I actually cut my own hair for at least three months and had better results than the chi-chi Georgetown hair stylists. I recently returned to Salon S on my way to another destination to have James cut my hair. WOW!!! James not only removed my numerous cutting errors, but also removed multiple years from my appearance. Thank you, James! My hair looks like it was cut by the master, Vidal Sassoon. It takes me exactly five minutes to have perfect looking hair. James is an artist and I will be returning to New Jersey from DC at least every two months to keep my appearance neat and sophisticated. I had the worst experience at salon s in Northvale, NJ. It was my first time there, and they did come recommended by friends, but I will NEVER be returning back here. I went in for 10am appt for my daughter who was a flower girl in a wedding. I was told it would take 30 minutes for her hair to be done when I when in for a consultation on Wednesday. When I got there, the stylist was late and we didn't even get started until 10-15 pasted 10. As my daughters hair was being done, I started to become worries because her hair was not looking like the way it should have been. I expressed to the stylist that I wasn't liking the way it was looking. She took it all out and started over, this time, it was looking very messy looking. I began to get super frustrated and expressed again that I really was not liking how her hair was coming out. I did tell the stylist that all she needed to do was make a super high ponytail and then curl her hair and pin it so that she would have a curled updo with her tiara. (Just like the picture) I guess she didn't like the fact that I was telling her how to do her job, and she excused herself and then another stylist came over to re-do my daughters hair for 3rd time. I showed this other stylist the picture and she started to do something with my daughters hair and it was yet again another distare that looked nothing like the picture!! At this point, it was passed 11am and I needed to get my daughter to Edgewater by 11:30 for pictures. I am now beyond angry and upset. Again, I stated it shouldn't look like that and I began to question if anyone in the salon knew how to do hair. Finally, after 5 people were working on my 3 year olds hair, it came out super close to what it should have looked like. There was just no time to play around with it anymore as it was now 12pm. I approached the front desk with my daughter and I assumed that due to the aggravation etc... I was not going to be charged for this appointment. Well, the owner of Salon S, James, stood by the desk and responded with and "excuse me" when I assumed I was not going to be charged. He went on to tell me that, we had 5 people working on your kids hair and trying to make it right." I expressed to him that I have been in this salon for 2 hours when this appt. Should have been 30 minutes. And I also came in for a consultation to discuss what her hair needs to look like etc.... I continued to speak to me in a nasty manner by saying, "I shouldn't have put my hands in it." I'm sorry, but when my daughter is a big part of a wedding like that and the stylists don't know why they are doing, you better believe I'm going to speak up and say it's terrible." I again, expressed that I was now late with getting my daughter to where she needed to be because I needed to be down on Edgewater by 11:30 and it is now 12. His response to that was, "thats your problem." I paid the $40 because it was not about the money, and I honestly didn't have time to argue with such an arrogant man. I don't even know how he is able to run a business with that attitude. I told James I will never come back here, he responded with, "you never came here before anyway." I walked in off the street and asked them if they would be able to go to my Aunt's home today and do her and my Cousin's nails as they both just lost their son and brother. Wonie immediately said yes without hesitation. Never have I come across an establishment with such compassion and understanding. Very happy with this place. Used to get my hair cut at a local barbers and switched here after a recommendation by my girlfriend. Lisa is a great stylist, and all the staff are friendly, fun, and enjoyable to be around. Never felt uncomfortable and feel like I get a little vacation every time I go in. People ask me why I travel an hour for a haircut. They also compliment my hair at the same time. I laugh as they answer their own question. I have been going to James for years, and he always demonstrates such artistry in his work. You never feel rushed and know he is taking great time to be precise with your hair. James always gives such a wonderful haircut. There have been times I might have to wait to make my next appointment, but I never seem to have a 'bad hair day' while waiting. My mother and two sisters did not have to be converted, they too make the over an hour trip to James. "Time to go see James", is what one of the four of us are saying at one time or another. My experience at Salon S was absolutely amazing- top quality service! My husband and I moved to NJ in March, so I am new to the area. I have been desperately searching for a great salon nearby so I would not have to continue my commute into NYC. I walked in with the request to "chop it all off", and I am thrilled with my new haircut. James is an absolute master and artist when it comes to hair. He listened very carefully during my consultation and looked through the inspiration pictures I brought. He even showed me several pics and ideas he had in his portfolio, and we were on the same exact page. I knew I was in the right hands. I came in with long hair down my back and walked out of there with a chic, trendy, beautiful short hairstyle. He was not gonna let me walk out of there until I looked FABULOUS!!! I'm super happy with my hair cut. Hae-jeong Son is great. First time I ever cut my hair with her and this is the first time in my 32 years that I like how my hair cut turned out. I came with a photo told her that I'm growing my hair out so she amazingly kept my length and reshaped the front and back. I've been having my hair colored and cut at Salon S by Michele B and Richard for over 20 years and can't imagine going anywhere else since it feels like family to me there. I'm a regular and have gotten to know everyone over the years since such a welcoming salon. I've been incredibly happy with my color, and people praise it all the time. Richard has such expertise coloring and styling my hair, maintains my bangs during color visits between cuts, is always on time, flexible around my schedule, and super caring, my husband and kids go to him too. My daughter and I see Lisa at Salon S. She is a miracle worker, my daughter had a horrible color at another salon, it was a mess, and left my daughter in tears, but Lisa was able to correct the color, and has been styling her hair since then. She wouldn't trust anyone else to touch her hair, and walks out of the salon with a huge smile on her face each time she sees Lisa. Lisa is very caring, and friendly, she makes you feel at ease. I have been very happy with my cut and keratin treatment. She is really nice to work with, and always makes you feel special. I would recommend her highly. I have been going to Salon S for almost 20 years. James, the owner is absolutely the best. I had very long hair most of my life and wanted to go short. James cut it all off and he created the most incredible haircut. It is now several years later and my hair just keeps getting shorter and shorter (at my request) and each time James does better than the prior time. Negative experience here, for numerous reasons. Perhaps the thing that most sours my experience is that while I was getting my hair done, the next client showed up for my hairdresser. While the hairdresser was doing my hair, she was complaining to me about the next client. I was thinking, "I hope you don't say these things about me." Mind you, I am not really her friend, so for her to be talking to me about this is really weird--and of course, unprofessional. read more
