I really wanted to like this salon since my sister and her family all were getting their hair done here. It was my first time and unfortunately I didn't have a good experience. I had asked for a trim for my long hair and also bang- bottle-neck/curtain bangs. I showed her (Kelly) multiple photos from Pinterest even. My bangs ended up being too choppy especially at the ends and a little but shorter than it should have been for the look that I wanted. She mentioned that she didn't even know what curtain bangs were when it started to become a particular trend a year or two ago.. shouldnt good hairstylists keep up with the new hair trends and know what customers will come in asking for? Anyway, once the cut was done she styler my hair using a curling iron and burned the side of my forehead...ouch! I think this place is over rated and overpriced foe the quality of haircut I received. Friendly and nice decor. This salon has been only opened for 5-6 month. Owner and hair designer Kelly has been taking care of my hair for past 8 years. She has over 15 years of this field, and I can say that she knows what she is doing. Atmosphere of a salon is very cozy. It is very modern with fancy wood work but in a contrast, lightings by washing stations are very vintage decor and somewhat urban city like. I highly recommend this salon to anyone. read more

I just went in for the first time today after reading all of the other great reviews about salon 4x. They weren't lying. Everything was excellent! Everyone was extremely friendly and enjoyable to talk to, and I got an awesome haircut :) I learned a lot about my hair/taking care of it, and I got so many compliments from my friends! Kelly is amazing! Another stylist in a different snob fest of a salon didn't blend my extensions and for the past week I haven't been able to enjoy them. To be honest I walked around completely embarrassed. Kelly blended the extension and gave me a beautiful cut, now its impossible to tell I even have hair extensions. Also, can't forget the sweet stylist who answered my call and made me a quick appointment for the fix. The salon may not be the fanciest or biggest but the stylists are top notch. read more

I had such a great experience with Kelly. I have been searching around for a good hair salon that I can rely on for a simple trim, or even a blowout and curl for a special event. Kelly was so knowledgeable and discussed the shape of my hair and the thickness that I wasn't even aware of. I am not really even sure how to begin this review because I'm still a little bit in shock with how great of an experience I just had at Salon 4x. (I'm not a very emotional person but I think the condensation coming from my eyes are what people refer to as, "happy tears"). I don't normally write reviews but I just wanted to share my experience with anyone who is right now desperate and looking for help. Being grateful is one thing, but I also wanted to share with the team at Salon 4x how much their help meant to me. To give you a little background info, on Sunday I went to a salon that I have been going to for years, for what I thought would be a simple root touch-up. I do not believe in bashing businesses. I work in the beauty industry too and I completely understand that some days you are swamped and human error happens. I also take responsibility in that I should have been more informed about the condition of my hair and been more verbal about my distress. Long story short, I walked out of the salon five hours later with melted hair, chunks of hair falling out, a burning scalp and more importantly, extremely shattered self-esteem. I believe hair is a size-able part of ones identity and the anxiety I felt walking out of that salon is unlike anything I experienced before and something I wish upon no one. After days of feeling completely defeated, I called up Salon 4x, emotionally prepared to have a stylist tell me that I was beyond repair and that I would need to shave my hair. I expected the worst, didn't think it was worth hoping for the best...until I made the call. Immediately from the start of speaking with the receptionist (I didn't catch her name, I will edit next week when I get it) my heart started to lift. I think a huge deciding factor of whether or not I book an appointment (regardless of how talented the hair design team is) has to do with how accommodating the receptionist is. The receptionist was not only welcoming but also really patient, knowledgeable and eager to answer any questions or concerns I had over the phone. It's always hard to find people that can relay that type of warmth over the phone but she nailed it. She was even more lovely in person. Like I said, my hair was visibly in disaster...there was absolutely no judgement from her or the fellow stylists. I met with Markelly (I, for sure, spelled her name wrong but I'll edit next week). She took me to the bowl to have my hair washed. She was extra cautious with my stringy, mushy hair whilst shampooing. I think she could tell I was nervous and was so beyond remarkably comforting, reassuring me with every step that everything would be ok and we would be able to set me back on the right track. She always made sure to ask if water temperature was alright and asked me at the most appropriate times if there was anything I needed. I cannot stress enough how great she was and easy to get along with. Kelly who was my hair designer is most definitely a hair guru/ninja/wizard of some sort. I am surprised she is not a director of a major hair conglomerate. She carefully examined my hair. She noted areas of severe damage and concern immediately. My hair was the consistency of gum when wet so I was insanely impressed she could analyze hair condition so quickly. I feel like Kelly is the truest testament to how important it is for stylists to be knowledgeable not only with product but hair as well. She quickly customized a hair treatment that would begin my hair recovery. She was 100% honest with me from the get-go. She told me that this would be a process and that my hair would need time to heal and strengthen. It wouldn't be a quick fix. I really appreciated this the most. I am by no means an expert on hair and for someone to tell me what I needed to hear and not what I wanted to hear was refreshing. Kelly educated me every step of the way on what she was doing and why she was taking those steps. She also gave me information on how to keep my hair in health at home. After my treatment, she cut my hair to preserve it's shape and to hold well during the next few months of healing. My hair feels like hair. It is by no means healthy and or what it once was, but the that fact that Kelly took what my hair was (a gelatinous blob) to human hair is...magical sorcery. I am still shook up with the outcome. The overall ambiance of the salon is light, positive and has the best energy. The whole team seems to love being there and doing what they do. They were discussing the extended Starbucks menu together. It made me feel super comfortable and like I was just hanging out at a friend's very upscale interior-designed house. I want to remind you that I initially walked into the salon thinking I would be walking out with a GI Jane-esque new do and having to cancel any and all social obligations when I got home for the next few years. But here I am, smiling. Thank you everyone at Salon 4x. I can't put into words how amazing you all are. :) read more

I've never had an experience like I had at Salon 4x. I went in expecting a mediocre hair cut, as that has been my experience in salons thus far, and left with a masterpiece, really. My stylist Kelly (who is also the manager) was so patient, knowledgeable, and precise. She made sure to understand exactly what it was that I wanted and explained her reasoning for things in a way that did not feel at all pushy, always giving me the opportunity to voice my opinion. I ended up with a long bob that gave me an entirely new and fresh look I am in love with. I felt so at ease and entrusting that I decided to have my hair colored as well, and it was the best decision I've made hair-wise! The salon itself is very clean and modern looking, which the outside of the building does not boast so don't judge a book by it's cover! The receptionist was so kind and welcoming as well! I have been to this salon in the past and had decent haircuts. This most recent visit, however, was certainly my last. I made an appointment for balayage highlights and a haircut. I should have rescheduled when I saw that my stylist was going to be juggling two balayage treatments at the same time. I stayed, but I regret it. Both the other girl and I spent a LOT of time under the dryer, at the sink, in the chair, etc. while our stylist worked on the other. I'm guessing that we spent too much time with bleach on our heads because each of us had shockingly blonde hair after the first rinse and only one of us left happy. She was farther along in the process and had ample time to have her toner redone. I, however, was outta luck and outta time. I left with bleach blonde highlights all around my face that extended to the roots. None of them blended and many of the highlights were chunky and gave me roots - not the intended look of balayage. I had even shown her several pictures of highlights I liked and we had talked about how I needed the highlights to blend at the top so they'd grow out forgivingly since I'm not going every 6 weeks to maintain. Not only did I get chunky highlights circa 2002, but I was asked to PAY for them before I could leave even though it was understood I would have to come back for her to "fix" my hair. All in I paid close to $300 for a cut and color and spent 5 and a half hours in one day here to leave unhappy. I tipped her so as not to be rude and because I needed her to fix this. Several days later she rushed through a toner session around my roots that took down the blonde a little bit, but upon closer inspection left me with a chunk of hair that has light and dark stripes down the length of it. The darker color has already begun to fade back to blonde and I have some of the chunkiest, most poorly "blended" layers I have ever had. I will have to pay for a box of hair dye and another trim sooner than intended to correct this $$$$$ mistake. For this much money clients shouldn't be juggled for hours only to leave disappointed. I really wanted to like my hair since the stylist was so pleasant, but there are only so many "What happened to your hair?" questions I can field in a week. This appointment was not with Kelly who has given me good haircuts in the past. If you are going to go here make an appointment with Kelly. read more

I've been looking for better hair salon for years now, and this is best salon I could find. I had my hair cut from Kelly on Friday. I have untameable rising hair on both sides and back of my head that consumes lots of hair spray when it's short. But she took care of it with her professional skills and sense as hair designer. Now I look more young and dandy. I got many compliments from people I know today. This place certainly is a salon I can be loyal to. However, I had to wait 30 minutes for my appt since she was running over time which made me late for my other appointment and I was not happy about that. Amazing! Kelly and her team are top notch. I have curly, thin, dry and highlighted hair that for years have been looking to get healthier. I've been to top salons throughout NJ, Luxe, Visage and others that made promises to transform my hair with chemical treatments that fried and damaged my hair more until it broke off. I have been going to Kelly now for maybe 8 months. Obviously being a little hesitant on stylists promises, I let her take steps during each appointment to get my hair more healthy. All I can say is I'm a total believer. I've never written a Yelp review, but had to for her. She is sweet, informative, talented and most of all experienced and really cares about you and your hair. This is the first time in years I feel like I only need to spend 20 minutes on my hair instead of an hour and walking out the door still unhappy.
