I've been going to Rolfers for the past 10 years and I think he is very knowledgeable, gentle and really tried to understand my pain. I don't live in Denver but I needed urgent care for a psoas muscle spasm and hip girdle pain. He observed my alignment when walking which is good sign, addressed the issue and provided suggestion to avoid pain on my flight back to the east coast. Fancy digs, sure aren't, Thoughts of , "am I ever going to be heard from again.." enter your mind the first time you wander down to the basement studio, they sure do! ha NONE OF THAT MATTERS! Once your eyes are closed, what does it really matter how fancy a room you are in, a massage table is a massage table after all, and the real difference maker is John! I've been getting pretty regular massages for the last 6- 8 years and John gave me probably the best massage of my life. He used a great mix of techniques - at least 3 I've never had done to me before, and adored them all! Massage isn't always supposed to be relaxing, if you've got real issues, it takes real work and sometimes real pain to rid them. Oh, and those mentions of not liking his music, it's amazing, but if you simply say, "Hey, can you put on sometime a little more smooth and relaxing, he happily does so!" Good guy, great talent. John is a nice guy. The location of his massage room seems sketchy and once you get into the room it is certainly VERY sketchy. The music he uses is similar to being in Bollywood listening to Indian women belly dance. Not relaxing at all. The oil he uses smells nice but if you don't shower YOU WILL STAIN WHITE SHEETS PINK. Which is exactly what happened to me. Even using bleach. If you want a good deal for a 90 minute massage then he's for you. But you'll need to look over the shabby digs and bizzare music. read more

First I'd like to say that I wish I could give him more stars because he's a really nice guy. :) John is at my work today doing chair massages for our employees. I just finished a 10 minute chair massage with him, and I can honestly say that it was one of the worst massages I have ever had. :( I asked him to focus on my right shoulder which usually has a lot of tension since I carry my huge purse on that shoulder. I appreciated that he listened to me. So, he gets one star for being very friendly and another for listening to my needs. I was just looking for a nice, relaxing massage but didn't find it with John. He has strong hands, which was good, but once the crazy karate chops started I knew this wasn't the massage for me lol. He also pulled my arms in different directions while applying pressure to my shoulder. Yeah, that really hurt. I've been going to physical therapists, massage therapists and chiropractors for many years and for many reasons including scoliosis, a herniated disc, and occasionally just wanting a nice massage. I was always under the impression that adjustments and massages had to be painful in order to work- I'm pleased to find that I was mistaken! The first time John worked on my neck, I was actually pain free for several days afterwards (which is a pretty big deal for me). Bizarrely enough, he was also somehow able to significantly reduce the ganglion cyst on my wrist by working on my neck. He seems to have a deep understanding of how the human body works and how to make it work better. John is an incredibly gifted healer and a comfortable and pleasant person to be around. John Wilson reminded me last week just what a transcendental, other-worldly space a massage can take one. It had been entirely too long since my last. Mine lasted an hour and took me to other-worldly places. I don't know that it exceeded the best of previous massages, as much as it was among them. To earlier comments, this space is second-floor (the dungeon space was perhaps the one before?); he asked, before he started, what kind of music I'd like; he focused where I asked; with one exception (to which I gasped and he backed right off) he applied the pressure I was looking for; and he seemed focused on his craft and on ever improving it, and on my needs and objectives for partaking in it. This guy is a major jerk! Not only was his online booking site difficult to comprehend as every day says 'available', but you have to figure out eventually to continually scroll through the calendar month to find an opening and then it just shows a time and no way to lock in the day/time. I called his number numerous times to no avail. It just rang and rang and then cut off. Tried this a few times thinking it was perhaps a non-working number. No message, voice mail, nada. The guy sucks at interpersonal relations as his e-mail to me was 'wrong e-mail, stop texting.' Used the same e-mail that was on the site and yet somehow he got the e-mail so apparently it wasn't the 'wrong e-mail.' Amazed this guy has any business w/such a sour attitude. Will definitely let Groupon know how dissatisfied I am w/his lack of response and his piss-poor outlook on life. His reputation will suffer as a result. read more

I'm not just saying this because John's my friend and bandmate (I believe in full disclosure). Okay, that is the reason I'm writing, however! All of what I say below is my honest opinion, or I wouldn't be saying anything at all (if you can't say something nice...). But I have recommended him to friends and coworkers, without any reservations. Massage therapists require an individual fit. A bodyworker can be a perfect match or a terrible one for different people, or anywhere in between. My feeling is that if you know this going in, then you can better assess whether a therapist is right for you and your needs, and whether this person is a well-qualified professional. Particularly for us ladies: If you have been as annoyed, weirded out or even damaged by male massage therapists like I've had the misfortune of running across, you will understand what I mean when I say that John is the ONLY male massage therapist I have seen in probably 20-odd years who I trust for bodywork. Total professional - seriously, when I go in there, he takes his John-your-friend-and-bandmate hat off and puts his John-your-massage-therapist hat on. He very much cares about his work, so do not be shy about giving him your direct, immediate input on any aspect of your session. He won't break down and cry or anything. read more

This man is amazing. I have been to so many different massage people and this guy is the first one to actually help fix my pain. One main thing I love about him is hes not afraid to massage my gluts. Many male massage therapist will not touch a women's upper thighs. For me I am not bashful. My gluts are the main thing I need help with since Im on my feet working all day. My lower back is in so much pain. I am a very loyal customer. Hes got good rates and package deals. I need to make more frequent appointments to keep my body from pain but what can I say. After two months of traveling on budget in India and then a long flight overseas, I arrived home with an incredibly painful knot below my shoulder blade where an old injury used to be. I typically do not enjoy massages or anyone manipulating my body, but I was in so much pain I had to seek out a massage therapist. I found Therapeia Massage, went there and was assigned to John. He listened to my problem and worked on the spot and relieved the pain. My back was without pain immediately the following day. John is very good with deep tissue massage. I went to John every time from there on out for a massage whether I had pain or not. When John left Therapeia, I was very sad and no massage therapist has matched his quality. I have not been able to see John since he opened East/West because I've moved to the South Bay. He used some really interesting techniques and the massage room is soothing and clean. Unfortunately, he seemed unable to maintain consistent pressure, at times very deep, at others very light. I've had chronic, lower back pain for two and a half years -- which is fairly uncommon for an active, healthy 25 year old (albeit a very stressful posture while working). I've been to physical therapy, tried chiropractic and acupuncture relief and have visited a half-dozen masseuses across Denver in search of something, anything, to take away my pain. I FINALLY found John and will be a member for as long as he's around. My lower back pain is completely gone. Now John is working to sort my hips out as everything was thrown out of whack while non-weight-bearing for 6 weeks post-ankle surgery. I'm confident he'll be able to get rid of that too. Never in my life have I met somebody so in tune with the human body, muscles, movements, input, exercises, you name it. Even if you're just looking for a massage once or twice a year, John is your guy. He'll tailor pressure to suit your likings and for those who like a deep tissue massage, I've never met anyone who can go as deep as I like it for a full hour or even 90 minutes. John can do that. Super confusing online booking. We were told our only option was to follow him on Twitter and look for notifications. Luckily one of us had a Twitter account, but sadly that didn't help as there were only openings in Boulder. If there aren't any openings for months, why offer a groupon?
