This is from a patient that has been here for over a decade. I have often heard parents call this place "The factory" for its efficiency for handling patients. I never had a full cleaning that lasted over 15 minutes. To give some reference, the average dentist cleaning is 20-30 minutes. Keep in mind that this places rates are similar to other dentists in the area, so the only thing you're saving here is time. But this speed comes at a cost. When they floss you, they are pretty tough with it, only cleaning one of the sides of the tooth with a simple, push down and back, so you're not even getting a full cleaning. Another thing to add is that, if you have braces, sometimes they use the electronic tooth brush on your gums. This can be extremely painful, to the point where once, while I had my braces for two years, literally grabbed the dentist's hand and left, showing my mother my bleeding gums and refused to go back in there. They still charged us full price, and my mother didn't let me get another dentist after that incident. This institute also pushed me multiple times to have my baby teeth and wisdom teeth removed. After the 4th removal I refused any more removals, letting the rest of my baby teeth, the ones that they claimed would be painful to get out of my mouth naturally, fall out, and there was no pain or problems. They also tried for years to convince me to remove my wisdom teeth, claiming I would have problems, but I never did. From a buisness standpoint I can see why they would do this, every teeth removal means they can charge a lot of money, this as well as how quickly they process patients means they must make a lot of money from these processes. The final straw was the fact that my parents changed dental insurance, and we had to pay out of pocket for my brother and I to get a cleaning. It cost 141 for each of us to get a 12 minute cleaning, and there was, for my cleaning. 2 minutes where my dsntist stopped what she was doing to either gossip or talk about other patients with two other dentists. There are other places to take yourself and your kids for dentist check ups. Trust me, your kids and your mouth will thank you. read more

This was one of worst experiences I have ever had with any business. Under no circumstances would I ever recommend Dental Care of McLean. I did not have a good experience with Dr. Schehl and his staff's incompetence cost me $1500. Instead of doing the work they had scheduled for me, they up-sold me on major cosmetic dentistry. I agreed to have the work done because they assured me my dental insurance covered it and in the long run it would last much longer. Dr. Schehl's staff set up all the appointments and I planned on returning on 12/1 to begin the work. In November I called their office to confirm we had set up the appointments correctly because I received a new card from my dental insurance. I was assured on the phone by Dr. Schehl's staff they had indeed set up the appointments correctly and instead the change in my dental insurance would benefit me and reduce my out of pocket costs. It didn't make sense and I asked the young man on the call to check that indeed my insurance covered the work. Instead he told me he didn't know how to check but that I shouldn't worry and insisted all was well. I believed him, especially since Dr. Schehl's staff had set up the appointment dates based on their checking my dental benefits and the staffer on the phone insisted all was well. Well, Dr. Schehl's staffer was incorrect. His staff set up the appointments after my coverage had ended. If Dr. Schehl's staff had done what I asked they would have seen they had made a mistake and we could have changed the date for the procedure. Instead I lost my full year's benefit of $1500. And to add insult to injury, Dr. Schehl's office manager, Jessica, initially told me it was my mistake, and believe me, she was rabid in her defensiveness. The whole mess was stunning but no more shocking then when Jessica called me back at the end of the day to tell me that indeed it was their mistake. This was after she had been so nasty and accusutory on the phone. She then offered to let me get the work done at the original cost. I can't imagine why she would ever think I would trust them to do major dental work after everything that had happened. I later called them to ask for a copy of my X-rays so I could take them to a new dentist they refused. Instead they sent me a photo copy of my dental X-rays which is useless. I have never had anything like this ever happen and have never gotten treated so badly. This was the worst experience I have ever had with any business in the area - Under no circumstances would I ever recommend Dental Care of McLean. From where I stand, they owe me an apology and $1500. read more

I went in for a consultation with Dr. Schehl and he came in for a second and told me that he didn't know it was a consultation appointment and he didn't have time. He told me I should've made an appt for a consultation and when I told him I did, he said "well I don't have time now, I have an emergency". And abruptly walked out of the room. I agreed to see another dentist that day, but now she's gone now so I won't be going back. He was the rudest person I've encountered. read more

Solid staff - Friendly and knowledgeable, from the front desk, to the Doc's. I use Dr. Tidwell and appreciate having someone whose attention to detail surpasses mine! Impressions are: Perfectionist, extremely knowledgable and to the point (frank!). He also has a great sense of humor and good taste in music (from what was playing while I got my work done). Communication - txt, voice and email alerts running up to my appointments - choose any of it or none of it. From the start prices have been up front, more than fair, and the services have been top notch! read more

What makes Dr. Schehl an exceptional "patient-focused" dentist is that during any procedure he provides a commentary to his patient, exactly what he is doing step-by-step. Dr. Schehl takes the time to talk to his patient about the procedure and offers a variety of options sharing the pros and cons of each. More importantly, Dr. Schehl takes the time to listen...listen and address your questions, concerns, trepidations and anxieties. Lastly, you, the patient, can tell that Dr. Schehl checks and rechecks his work before you get out of that dental chair. read more

I scheduled long overdue and much needed dental work with Dental Care of McLean. Some initial work was performed satisfactorly. On June 29th I had an appointment with Dr. Schehl, and at that time he said he would have to work up a treatment plan. Said expect two weeks. I waited three weeks and called the office to ask about the plan. Receptionist put me on hold and returned to say the person responsible would call me back shortly. No one called back. Seven subsequent phone calls in August and September, each with promises that I would be contacted, went unreturned. One unreturned call is not a big deal. But SEVEN? Very unprofessional operation. read more

IMO, the dentist and hygienist did good work during my appointment, while the administrative staff did not. My dental insurance company's customer service representative told me this practice was "in network", which is why I made an appointment with this practice. To confirm the level of insurance coverage, I checked with the practice administrative staff before my procedures, and was told I should be covered and charged "in network" rates. Not so. Both the insurance company and the dental practice misspoke. To make matters worse, the administrative staff has since been trying to get me to pay more than I already have paid, which is considerable; apparently to get me to make "out of network" level payments after leading me to believe there would be "in network" coverage. read more

I've been going here for two and a half years. The office is warm and friendly, and the receptionist doesn't hide behind a wall like you'll find in other offices. The entire staff goes to great lengths to make you feel at home and explains every procedure in detail. The hygienists do a good job, though, it seems some hygienists are more senior than others. I always get a good cleaning here though. I get my teeth cleaned twice a year and have never thought about going elsewhere. read more

Excellent dental practice all around. From the moment you contact Dr. Schehl's office you are treated like you are there first and most important patient. They almost always answer the phone, and if for some reason they don't, you can expect a prompt call back. The office is warm and friendly, and the receptionist doesn't hide behind a wall like you'll find in other offices. I have high anxiety about going to the dentist, so after a few days of being in pain and it becoming an emergency I contacted the office (I've been to Dr. Schehl several times over 10 years and he replaced a crown for me). I had right jaw and tooth pain which at first I attributed to tooth grinding. I was on the verge of tears in the waiting room when they called me back and the tech Nadjia (I'm sorry I'm butchering that) was so sweet and compassionate as I'm telling her my symptoms through my tears. She did a great job diffusing my anxiety and it turned out I had a cracked tooth that needed a crown which was done much more efficiently than one place I went to years ago so my experience was better than I had expected. Dr. Berman who is the other dentist there was also very sweet and efficient. They did not try to oversell me even though I probably have a mouth full of issues that will eventually need to be addressed, but they did not overwhelm me with non-urgent items on my visit. read more
