So we took a drive from NYC/NJ while on vacation there to CT. We ended up in this town and did some shopping. We looked for a place to eat and ended choosing this pizzeria. Oh my! I'm so glad we did. Starting with the bread knots, I could have eaten the whole order but had to share with my husband and daughter. I had not eaten a calzone in years. The owner said I would love it and he was right. It was so good. The sauce! My daughter had a panini and we also ordered a slice of napolitana/margarita slice of pizza. I don't know why we cannot have authentic Italian food like this in California. Finding a new pizza spot after moving here from NYC has been tough, so much carbs and cheese on this journey, but Joe's has been the best I've had in Fairfield County so far! It takes a LOT for me to write a review but I'm LOVING Joe's that much... We've lived in Westport for 13 years and never found the perfect pizza place, BUT WE FINALLY DID WITH JOE'S! We tried them for the first time two weeks ago (got the Westport Special) and now it will be our new regular thing. The crust is perfect and the pizza is always really flavorful (gotta love a place that will give you extra garlic)! We loved the fresh greek salad and house-made dressing, even my 5 year old son was raving about how good the dressing was! I stopped by here on a roadtrip with a bunch of friends and we were starving. There didn't seem to be many food options around at Friday at 8:30pm, and Joe's seemed to be one of the cheapest and fastest options. We ordered 3 extra large pizzas and some garlic knots (I have a huge soft spot for garlic knots). The staff were all very friendly and seemed to really take their craft seriously. The pizza was great! We got the Quattro Gusti pizza, the Gino's special (meat lovers), and Margherita pizza. All of them tasted extremely fresh, especially the sauces. I personally prefer a crispier and harder crust, as this pizza got a little floppy towards the end. In addition, the garlic knots were a little dry. Overall, however, I'm not sure you could ask for more around this area, and I encourage anyone driving in this random area to stop by and get some fresh pizza. read more

Not only is it that classic "New York slice" you dream about, watch documentaries on Netflix for, but It truly made us feel home in all senses of the word. Joe's Pizza is a basement store with a relatively long hallway from the entrance to the counter. As you traverse it to order or pick up, you're likely to pass customers who are not wearing masks. This is not surprising as the simple man who owns it regularly wears his mask below his nose, as does everybody working behind the counter. Either he doesn't know the difference, or he can't be bothered to think carefully about the food, or the people, he serves. Usually, there will be a pizza behind the glass for providing slices. Even if the pizza came out a few minutes before, it looks as if it's been there all day. The pizza is greasy, and of cheap quality. The first time I visited, I asked for a broccoli and spinach slice. Joe was nice enough to make a fresh pie for me, but he tried to talk me into a "personal pizza", which I didn't need or want. I asked that he "dust" the vegetables with a sprinkle of cheese, as reputable pizza places do as a matter of course. Joe gleefully responded he would charge me for three toppings, as "cheese is expensive!" Needless to say, I cancelled the 'extra cheese'. When I opened the box in the car to find my slice, I discovered it had no spinach, just broccoli. Not wanting to make a fuss, I figured I'd tell Joe next time, and for my next spinach broccoli slice, he'd charge for only one topping. No big deal. A few days later I called before coming and ordered my usual. Joe wasn't there. This time, same thing -- no spinach on the slice, only broccoli. The people apologized, and charged me for the one broccoli topping. Tonight, I went in and ordered another spinach broccoli slice. I told Joe what happened. This time he showed me the slice before he put it in the oven. A slice with broccoli and dark, twisted, cooked spinach leaves which couldn't be missed. He refused, however, to charge me for only one topping. Instead, he became immediately argumentative, and accused me of lying to save 50 cents. He brought up the fact that I had inquired about the sprinkling of cheese, and said he'd bet his life that he had put spinach on that first slice. I thought it was odd that his life meant so little to him, and that his memory was so clearly inaccurate. More strange was that he felt no compunction about yelling at the top of his lungs in front of his employees, and seemed to be perfectly fine with alienating a customer over such a trivial matter. On my way out, he called me an "asshole", and when I was near the door, he called my mother an "asshole", as well. My mother died recently. While Joe had no way of knowing this, his crassness and desire to argue, were both things she would been shocked by. I went down the street to Outpost Pizza. Their pizzas behind the glass did not look like they'd been sitting around all day. I asked for a spinach broccoli slice, with a cheese sprinkle. Not only did they remember to add both broccoli and spinach, but they wouldn't think of charging me for the sprinkling of cheese! And, their tomato sauce tasted better than Joe's. Conclusion: Joe's Pizza is inferior quality pizza served in a dingy basement space, and Joe is both rude and a cheapskate. Drive a minute down Westport's Main Street and order from Outpost Pizza, instead. You'll be glad you did. read more

The bread is not quite stale enough to make breadcrumbs from, but definitely will be by tomorrow morning. there were no utensils or napkins (which I called about and the very nice delivery guy, who hadn't had a break all day, brought some back). tiramisu was frozen, sandwich has too much meat and not enough of anything else, and the guy on the phone had an attitude. usually i dont take the time to write this, but as a construction contractor who eats at many places, this was worthy of my time to type out. Having gone to high school in the area, we would frequent another pizzeria that was a Wspt establishment that has since moved locations (we also recently dined there to believe the ingredients came from a can!). Coming back to the area to visit family a friends, we've visited Joe's twice now, and both times have been pleasantly surprised! We've ordered their gluten free crust which is the best we've had in the area, and very close to as good as the best gluten free option we've found in Brooklyn + Manhattan. The ingredients are also very fresh and tasty, something often hard to find in the general Wspt area. The size of the personal gluten free pie was also enough for two of us! The staff is very friendly, engaging, but not pushy. Pice point is great (almost half the cost to a comparable option in Brooklyn). We're so glad we've found Joe's as we're in the area enough as we're always looking for good gluten free options! read more

Hands down one of the best tasting gluten-free pizza. We ordered three gluten free pizza's for our growing teenagers and they devoured them. As a family that has gluten allergies, we have tried many different gluten-free pizza in many parts of the world and nothing compares to Joe's Pizza in Westport. Aside from the very good crust, the sauce, cheese and spices are authentic, NY style pizza. In addition to the great tasting food, the staff are incredibly friendly and the place is very clean. I have not tried their other dishes, but based on other patrons, it appears that Joe's does a good with panini sandwiches, salads and other various menu items. I have eaten here at least a dozen times, and if readers aren't sure why some reviews rave about Joe's, and others are lackluster, I would say that it's because Joe's can be inconsistent. When I first moved to Westport two years ago (note, I am from the Bronx, which has some of the best NY-style pizza around), we decided to give Joe's a try. We were very impressed by the pizza: excellent sauce, great-tasting crust, ample (but not excessive) amounts of cheese. Fast forward a month or two, we had ordered a pie that can only be described as mediocre - a bit overcooked in some areas and dry. Since then, I have eaten pizza from Joe's that falls somewhere in between these two extremes.
