I can't believe I've never reviewed my favorite deli in Fairfield. Let's start with the ambiance, this little hole in the wall is actually a pretty big hole in the wall. Its decor is unassuming, it's always clean, and you can smell the amazing food when you walk in. The service is always stellar, with the owner always up front slicing the meats to construct their giant sandwiches. The bread is always soft and tasty, the meat warm and juicy, and the toppings always fresh. The best part is the sandwiches are served with a delicious Au Ju that I give a 5/5. The salad is Mediterranean style and always is a 5/5 for me. Not pictured was the mashed potatoes and gravy which gets a 4/5 because even though it tastes good it's instant mash. The real star of the show is the Sammy. It never fails to bring nostalgia when I need a pick me up, and gets a 5/5 Overall, I rate this eatery a 4.75/5! read more

The roast beef sandwich was delicious ànd the portion size was very generous for all the sandwiches they prepared, the potato salad was amazing and the macaroni salad was delicious because it was made with real mayo not miracle whip!! Hidden Gem in Fairfield. One of the best sandwiches I had in a while. The meat is super fresh and they cut it up right in front of you. I ordered the BBQ roast beef and demolished it. Nothing fancy, nothing "elevated", just a good freaking sandwich. Never hitting up a chain, only if I have to. This is that spot you drive out your way because the food is good. The side dishes is delicious as well. Loved the service. They saw that I had my 3 kids running all over the place, so they made sure I was taken care of and helped me get seated. The sandwiches here are the best, I have been going here for over a decade and yes the prices have increased but the food has stayed consistently and reliably delicious. The service is always amazing and if you get to meet Joe himself you will understand how this place continues to stay so busy. The ambiance of Joe's is one of the last few pure places in downtown Fairfield. We continue to lose long time businesses and mom and pop shops to more corporations, I will happily spend my money on Joe's if it means they stay open forever over competitors. It is worth it. I have had the pleasure of having food from Joe's Deli & buffet for a Christmas party. I was obsessed with the ham, best ham I have ever had!! The roast beef & turkey were also good!! That ham was succulent, not a piece of fat anywhere!!!! We also had a fresh salad and breads. As far as sides we provided our own. I remember I packed a to-go plate from the party because those meats were good. I don't usually bring food home, but I did this time!!! We ordered a lot and doing those days a lot went far. That plus the lettuce, tomatoe, pickles cheese and you need to unhinge your jaw to fit it in. A very nice selection of sides and you should think of it a 2 meals. For 20 bucks it should be 2 meals but honestly I feel it was good value for great food. The carver has been there over 40 years and the servers know their job so great service as well. Do I really want to patronize a place that has no compassion for people that's fortunate than them. Disabled people need to use the restroom just as often, if not more often than regular people. I haven't ventured to Joe's buffet in many years. I happen to be in the downtown Fairfield area and I thought I would stop and have a sandwich. I ordered the French dip with provolone loaded with everything on it, including pickles mayonnaise mustard . I must say I was a little disappointed with the flavor. I thought the roast beef taste extremely bland. However, the size of the sandwich was enormous. I ate half there took the other half home and put some barbecue sauce on it. Nothing like sweet baby rays to make things taste better. It helped dramatically however after going to Joe's, I probably would not venture there again. Better choices out there now. I really wanted to love this place because it was recommended by a friend. Pros: You will not leave hungry. The portion sizes are quite ample. The meat is sliced using the deli meat slicer machine per order. The cold salads (potato, macaroni, and green) looked fresh and delicious. The lady who assisted us and Joe were super nice and friendly. Cons: The sandwich had no taste. All that meat (pastrami) and the flavor was very mild. The meat was luke warm. Most of the warm sides looked dry and old. I felt nausea later after eating 1/2 sandwich and potato salad. So I tossed the left overs. Location: Joe's is on a busy street but you can find parking out front. I believe there is parking behind the restaurant because people were entering through the back of the dining room. The restaurant is set up buffet style. Several staff stand behind the steam table serving customers and you pay at the end of the line. After which you enter the adjacent dining room. Overall the experience was okay and 1 day I will give them another shot. Perhaps I will take the sandwich to go next time so I can heat it and doctor it up. read more

I haven't had food like this since buds buffet heartbreakingly closed down in downtown Sacramento, it was a Sacramento institution for hot deli/buffet style food. This place is just as good, with HOT fresh sliced beef, pastrami and other meats and even mashed potatoes and gravy. They have an excellent deep brown gravy filled with pepper and spices, loaded with meaty flavors. You can taste the flavors of the meats and spices within the gravy, it's not some cheap powdered stuff. The people working there are nice, they aren't stingy with the meats. The interior is a cafeteria buffet style, you line up and get your food. They have a lot to choose from and Service is speedy, they'll get you in and out quick so you don't have to wait on that delicious, hearty meal. I drove all the way from Sacramento, it was worth it and I'd do it again. I was on a trip to the Bay Area, this meal kept my family full all day long you can tell it was very nutritious.
