Saw Joe's Buffet on Facebook and it looked like somewhere that I clearly needed to be. Let me tell you,... it Did Not disappoint. Everything about the fantastic sandwiches, and the yummy right size side dishes left me knowing that I made the right choice driving up to Fairfield for the experience. The sandwiches are pretty damn big (I've only finished half of mine all three times that I've visited the restaurant). I've gotten two (2) meals out of each sandwich. One of the BEST, highly underrated sandwiches I've had in the Bay Area. Good service with an "old downtown" feel is how I describe Joe's Buffet. The sandwiches? HUGE. I love how they pack the sandwiches with quality meats and ingredients. I ordered the pastrami and turkey with provolone cheese and all the trimmings (toppings.) Every bite was delicious. The perfect balance of pastrami, roasted turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, oil and vinegar, and heavy mayo on a sourdough hoagie roll. I've been coming to this sandwich shop for more than 20 years, and unfortunately, my latest visit may be my last. I understand that inflation has affected everyone. Prices for food, labor, and supplies have gone up, and as customers we've learned to expect higher prices. What I didn't expect was to pay significantly more and receive a sandwich that was noticeably smaller than what this shop built its reputation on. Years ago, these sandwiches were so large that finishing one in a single sitting was nearly impossible. Today, the sandwich was so small that I almost ate the entire thing and was still left wondering where the rest of it went. Long-time customers notice these changes. It's disappointing to watch a place you've supported for decades slowly reduce portions while increasing prices. At some point, the value simply isn't there anymore. I have many good memories of eating here over the years, but if I'm paying premium prices for a sandwich that no longer feels premium, I might as well make my lunch at home. This iconic cafeteria style deli in Fairfield is making some of the best French Dip sandwiches in all of Northern California. I visited Joe's for the first time, order the Roast Beef sandwich which has a generous portion of meat, a side of the best aus jus I've ever had, and the quality was top notch overall. The sides of mac n cheese and the pasta with gravy were both solid, the mac n cheese being the better of the two. You come to Joes for the Joes special! Just put mayo and cheese on top! Dip in the Au Jus! It's so tall just as it is that you have trouble opening your mouth wide enough! Wonderful rich flavored sandwich- the Au Just is thick and hugs the meat! Wish I would have taken half home for later. But split with my husband and am still full! The potato salad was great as well. But really didn't need any. Was stuffed! The space looks old and worn, but on a closer inspection it is clean. Like a regular sandwich shop you carry your own tray. We had to go and see what was up @joes after seeing alot of good reviews. Well I got to say it was as good as the reviews and some. Me and wife ordered French Dip and a small container of there potato salad. It's not a buffet as you would think , its ordering like buffet style tell them what kind of sandwich you want and tell them kind of bread and what you want on it you move on down the counter tell them what type of sides you like and container size move down and pay . Seat yourself in a large seating area was nice and cool on a hot day like today . Very comfortable and quiet. People working there were nice and very efficient. The sandwich was stacked with roast beef was so much beef me and wife shared it was full after eating. The potato salad was great,no onion which was great cause my wife dislikes onion kind of a vinegar tast was well balanced. No fat in the beef another good thing for my wife. Over all experience was great. All other sandwich places in vacaville and fairfield can't even compare to this place . We will be back for sure when we get a hankering for a good sandwich. This was my second visit to Joe's Buffet. This time, I ordered the pastrami sandwich and was a little disappointed. I'm not 100% certain, but the pastrami appeared to be pressed/deli-style meat. It had a shiny, somewhat rubbery texture, and I was hoping for more of a fresh, oven-roasted style of pastrami. That being said, the soft roll was excellent, the veggies were fresh and perfect, and the customer service was great. I can't believe I've never reviewed my favorite deli in Fairfield. Let's start with the ambiance, this little hole in the wall is actually a pretty big hole in the wall. Its decor is unassuming, it's always clean, and you can smell the amazing food when you walk in. The service is always stellar, with the owner always up front slicing the meats to construct their giant sandwiches. The bread is always soft and tasty, the meat warm and juicy, and the toppings always fresh. The best part is the sandwiches are served with a delicious Au Ju that I give a 5/5. The salad is Mediterranean style and always is a 5/5 for me. Not pictured was the mashed potatoes and gravy which gets a 4/5 because even though it tastes good it's instant mash. The real star of the show is the Sammy. It never fails to bring nostalgia when I need a pick me up, and gets a 5/5 Overall, I rate this eatery a 4.75/5! read more

My lunch here made my day, huge sandwich with turkey and pastrami and all the toppings. Also tried green beans, mashed potatoes and cucumber salad... all fantastic! Hidden Gem in Fairfield. One of the best sandwiches I had in a while. The meat is super fresh and they cut it up right in front of you. I ordered the BBQ roast beef and demolished it. Nothing fancy, nothing "elevated", just a good freaking sandwich. Never hitting up a chain, only if I have to. This is that spot you drive out your way because the food is good. The side dishes is delicious as well. Loved the service. They saw that I had my 3 kids running all over the place, so they made sure I was taken care of and helped me get seated. The sandwiches here are the best, I have been going here for over a decade and yes the prices have increased but the food has stayed consistently and reliably delicious. The service is always amazing and if you get to meet Joe himself you will understand how this place continues to stay so busy. The ambiance of Joe's is one of the last few pure places in downtown Fairfield. We continue to lose long time businesses and mom and pop shops to more corporations, I will happily spend my money on Joe's if it means they stay open forever over competitors. It is worth it. I have had the pleasure of having food from Joe's Deli & buffet for a Christmas party. I was obsessed with the ham, best ham I have ever had!! The roast beef & turkey were also good!! That ham was succulent, not a piece of fat anywhere!!!! We also had a fresh salad and breads. As far as sides we provided our own. I remember I packed a to-go plate from the party because those meats were good. I don't usually bring food home, but I did this time!!! We ordered a lot and doing those days a lot went far. For only 4 meat options on the menu the decision is difficult because all the meat is fresh and cooked on site. I couldn't decide between the roast beef or pastrami so the carver said he would give me enough of ea h to get a good tasting. The Sandwich was enormous, I mean easy 3" tall of meat. That plus the lettuce, tomatoe, pickles cheese and you need to unhinge your jaw to fit it in. A very nice selection of sides and you should think of it a 2 meals. For 20 bucks it should be 2 meals but honestly I feel it was good value for great food. The carver has been there over 40 years and the servers know their job so great service as well. The food here was really good. The portions were generous. The people were lovely. I'm only giving them two stars because the handicap toilet was broken. I'm disabled and without it I couldn't use the restroom at all. Their attitude was unconcerned about this when I explained to them how important it was to have a restroom available for people with disabilities. My impression was that they were not going to fix it and that it had been broken for some time. Very disappointing because I would've gone back there and I would have given them five stars, if this had not been the case or even if they just showed some interest in fixing it. And all I have to say is shame on you for not having more compassion for people with disabilities. My hope is that others will indicate to them that this is an important thing as well.
