Long overdue review but my husband and I came here for our presnowboarding ritual a couple months ago and really enjoyed this. I got the smothered porkchops with yams and mac and cheese. I got a lemonade (I think peach) and banana pudding. First off, I stopped getting porkchops when I order out a long time ago. You'd think that the big fancy restaurants can get a porkchop right, but they can't. They're too tough and bland. The only porkchops I trust to taste good are the ones my dad makes. I decided to be risky and get the smothered porkchops and they did not disappoint! They're just the right size and not tough and the sauce on it is amazing. I think I'm gonna have to come here for my porkchop fix when my dad hasn't made any. Yams and mac and cheese were so tasty and flavorful. The lemonade was tangy and delicious and they offer various flavors. The banana pudding was such a yummy dessert. My husband said he'd only take a bite or two and ended up eating his entire half. The location has a couple tables outside and they're clean! First thing I noticed was how spotless they are. The portions are so generous and it's enough to get two good meals, so there was definitely more goodness left for us to have a good dinner later after being beat from snowboarding. Ordered for delivery and not only were they on time but the restaurant texted me to say they were out of potato salad. They requested a substitute. I responded, and they were on point with my request. Potato salad must be good. Lol. I ordered 2 sides of fried pork chops. I received 1 pork steak (tough and full of fat) and 1 pork chop (also tough). I also ordered oxtails that were not only super tender but they were very flavorful! Portion sizes were good. We tried the following side dishes: greens, macaroni and cheese, yams, and red beans and rice. The greens were super tender and seasoned well, the mac & cheese wasn't quite my taste, the yams were fresh and weren't bad but could have been a bit sweeter, and the red beans were large - maybe kidney beans - I'm not sure. I prefer small red beans but the taste wasn't bad. The cornbread muffins were good. Not sweet like Jiffy though. Overall everything was seasoned very well like soul food is supposed to be. The smothered oxtails and the collard greens were both salt bombs. The gravy and the meat itself were just too much. It was cooked well and had a good chew to it. The collard greens were cooked well but also quite salty unfortunately. Not much bite or vinegar either. The fried okra were pretty good but probably better to try in person. Not slimy in the least, and cooked well. The cornbread muffin was dry, with mild sweetness and it wasn't that much. This was my second visit. Nothing like the first. My first visit was great. We ordered pork chop and fish. This visit I had smothered pork shop and chicken. The fried chicken was a little salty and my smothered pork chop had a way too much gravy. It was running into my sides. I had to ask for small containers to save my greens and yams. The girl up front was extremely nice but when I asked for containers the cook questioned her "why". Customer service is on point for the most part, and I want to believe yesterday was just a bad day. I made a large-ish order for pick up just a few days in advance for a party of 15- (don't be me! Please give this small business more notice!) yet the owner did me a solid, and was able to accommodate our timing and budget with an amazing and generous variety of meats, sides, and a banana pudding pan of dessert! Standouts were the oxtails, smothered turkey wings, fried fish, greens, and cornbread. But seriously, EVERY bite was amazing for party guests that included many grown man appetites that left each satisfied and enough to take some home. I'll say it for the people in the back: High quality soul food should not be cheap! But the quality should always aim to meet the standard of your southern grandma and Fatzo's definitely exceeds the mark on flavors that taste like they put plenty of love and time into each recipe! The best collard greens I have ever had. I don't know what or how he prepared them but they were perfect! Tender, flavorful and delicious! The oxtails were fall off the bone tender and covered in the most delicious gravy served over fluffy white rice perfection. The yams were right! He asked how was the food.. I admitted telling my husband I would work here just to find out the secret to those greens!! He said he gets that a lot! I'm so happy we made it over there finally. The peach lemonade was delicious sweetened just right to me. Yesterday I ate Fatsoz kitchen for the second time. The first time I ordered a Basa fish plate with yams and mac. Yesterday I ordered the oxtails. The oxtails comes with rice, gravy and two sides. I opted to pass on the rice. Both times ordering was a breeze. I walked in and ordered the first day. I called in an order the second day. Both times it was easy, ready on time, and the young lady taking the order was absolutely pleasant. This is a family owned and operated business and you can tell! They warmly greet you when you come in and they take pride in the quality of your meal. Price: Lets be real. The price is fair for the amount of food and the quality ingredients. In comparison to other soul food spots, the price point is comparable but the AMOUNT of food is crazy. (We are a family that pays attention to serving sizes) my oxtail plate was enough for me and two kiddos. My husband may have been able to finish it alone. The basa plate was the same. I also want to add that the cornbread was the best I have ever had at a restaurant. Location: The location is convenient and there is sufficient room for parking. The location does not allow dine in. I expect as this company grows so will the space. Cons: I always try to find an opportunity for improvement. To be very frank, I cannot think of anything substantial. A lot people have been mentioning this place on TikTok and after seeing the visuals I wanted to come out here and try it myself. The place is located in a strip mall with lots of parking. We went inside and while there is no pace to eat inside you can eat outside in front of the tabs there are some table and chairs available. We chose to eat one of our orders there as I was starving and take the other order home for later. We ordered smothered oxtails with mac n cheese and potato salad as they were out of collard greens sadly and came with corn bread muffin. And to eat there we got the fried basa sandwich with fries. Be prepared to wait as they make it to order. We grabbed a table outside to wait. Our food was brought to us outside all packaged up nicely. We got To work on eating our sandwich. I liked it and hubby felt like it needed more seasoning and the fries were good too. As for the smothered oxtails, I thought it was good but prefer more gravy. Soul food takes time and when I don't feel like slaving in the kitchen for hours to get the amazing taste of home, it's nice to be able to go to Fatsoz for all of my soul food favorites . Every time I come into this place I feel welcomed as if I'm a part of the family. I wish they had the space to welcome inside diners simply because the vibes and the food is so good I'd love to stay longer while enjoying my food. This is a to-go only place with a few tables available for outside seating if the weather is right. There's lots of things I haven't tried yet but my favorites so far are; fried chicken, Mac & cheese, red beans and rice, collard greens, and peach cobbler! They were good, nothing that made me say "Wow" The oxtails were tender but personally I enjoy them in a roux then with gravy but that's just me. My husband had the catfish and again, it was just ok. As for the sides I will say the greens were overly salted, the Mac n cheese was just ok, the yams were good but the cornbread was dry. The cat fish was perfect to my liking. Not oily, very light and moist ... nice filets. Portions of the sides were enough. I love they have the good good hot sauce. Crystal!!! And tartar available. The corn bread is dense; not too sweet. The pork chops are giving. Received 3 slices. And they were pretty thick slices. Not a fan of the rice. But the gravy had easy to like flavor. Only outdoor eating seats available for small groups. No shaded area. Food wait was about 10 minutes during lunch hour on a Wednesday. Sides were ok, wish they had the collard greens available. I was contemplating between this location and another Soul food place near by and I'm glad to have tried their food. I was craving oxtails and that's definitely what I ordered. They are take-out only, this is something to consider when wanting to eat their food and wanted to do a sit down. I did not mind but I opted for Door Dash to deliver instead. I did not realize that the oxtails came with rice already so I called to see if they were able to change one of my side. I was a little too late but it was fine, they gave the option to buy another side over the phone. Whoever I spoke to was very nice & accommodating. Now let's get to the nitty gritty. Location: It's at the Marina strip mall off the highway12, plenty of parking. And like I said, this is a takeout only. They do have some tables and chairs outside if you wanted to eat there. Price: Just comparing it from the other soul food restaurant I mentioned earlier, it's pretty reasonable! Anything smothered on their menu come with rice already which is great. Rice & Beans | 4.5 - delicious! I'm thankful there was a bed of rice on the oxtails because I feel like there wasn't enough rice on the rice and beans itself. Candied Yams | 3.5 - they were good but they were a little lacking on the sweet and candied part. Nonetheless still good! Greens | 4 - now this is a personal take. I think the greens were perfect, the only cons is I can not eat spicy and these were a bit on the spicy side. Took a bite and was so sad because I knew I couldn't eat it. That's a pro for my husband, he loved the greens and the spice. Oxtails | 5 - as a person who loves oxtails, I'd have to say, these were great! The food, service and the young lady at the front taking the order. The catfish, yams and collard greens were, deliciously well seasoned, and cooked to desired perfection!!! So much so I went back the next day. I order just the catfish because the serving sizes were generous, so I just need no FISH!! It's a take out establishment so to speak to the ambiance would be to give the wait persons a kudos. It was clean and orderly for as much as one can view. If I had to make a strong suggestion it would be that the customer should be made aware upfront that there are no printed receipts, however to their defense a hand written receipt can be made. Picked up lunch for wifey and I and wanted to try this place for the first time. As you enter in you're able to order your food at the table. The kitchen is in the back and they have a few table to dine at if needed to but it appears to be more of take out. We arrived with people in line and it didn't take long before we ordered. We chose the Oxtails over rice and gravy and ordered Basa fish sandwich but don't mistake it as a full made up sandwich it's two pieces of fish with bread on the side. We shared the Oxtail between us and the meat is tender and gravy wasn't too rich and definitely enough for one person but because we shared it had me wanting a little more. It came with two sides and we chose Mac and Cheese and Potato salad. We orinally wanted Collared Greens but it wasn't ready yet. Both sided were good but I have had better. The Basa sandwich could have used a little more seasoning and the two pieces that we got were very small but it was good. First time trying Fatsoz! I ordered the smothered pork chops, mac n cheese, and greens for myself. The flavor is definitely there and the pork chops were tender, BUT it was EXTREMELY salty. While I know that seasoning is different for everyone, I think anyone would agree that both the greens and pork chops/gravy was too salty. I really hate leaving this review because I know it's a newer restaurant but my feel unfortunately was inedible. After a few bites I threw it away. Oxtail over rice was really good.Fall off the bone. When it came to my sides however,the yams were pure sugar and the greens were a little heavy on the salt.. in all the first plate was worth me trying again but with different sides. It was fall off the bone and the gravy was tasty. It paired perfectly with the greens and mac n cheese. The greens reminded me of when I had them a a kid at my uncle James' house. And whenever you get greens you have to have mac n cheese. The fried okra was good, but you should eat it there so they remain crispy.
