Was in town to visit Eisenhower Presidential Library and Seelye Mansion and stopped by here for lunch. It's a casual family-owned one room restaurant whose patrons seem to be mostly locals. This is always a good thing. They serve breakfast all day, numerous burgers, sandwiches, and various plates. We ordered the reuben and BLT sandwiches and the catfish plate with mac n cheese. The veggie of the day was green beans. Everything was good except for the mac n cheese, which didn't taste very fresh -- you can tell the pasta and cheese had become coagulated. It wasn't creamy cheesy as good quality mac n cheese should be. Wasn't even homemade. And the green beans? Straight from the can! It was mushy and bland. Who wants to eat soggy green beans?! This was rather disappointing. Service was straightforward. Free parking in their small lot but also ample street parking. read more

A must stop for me every time I visit Abilene, Ks. Biscuits and Gravy is a favorite and always hot and tasty; coffee is good and the cup is bottomless. Service is with a smile and is quick even though the restaurant seems to do a great amount of business. We came across this place while roaming around Abilene and it had a lot of people so we went in for lunch. My wife had a pork tenderloin sandwich and it was a prebreaded patty. That's just lazy in my opinion and shows no pride in your food. The fries were bland and I had a burger that was flavorless. Maybe we were just there on an off day however, we plan to be back in Abilene but we will not be back to this place. read more

I was in Abilene, Kansas, to spend a weekend with a dear friend and to tour the Eisenhower Presidential Library. There aren't a lot of places to eat in Abilene, Kansas, because, well, it's the middle of Kansas. We did manage to eat at every non-chain restaurant in town during our stay in Abilene and Joe Snuffy's was the clear winner. This restaurant is very nondescript - the building leaves much to be desired, especially from the outside, but don't let that fool you: the food is delicious and the service is fantastic. Joe Snuffy's was the only restaurant we ate at twice during our stay in Abilene - we came for lunch and we also came for breakfast. The food is home cooked, and they do offer alcohol, if you're looking for a mid-afternoon pick me up. I had their "basic" breakfast consisting of toast, eggs, bacon and pancakes and it was awesome. For lunch, I had one of their burgers. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you're in Abilene, be sure to stop in. read more

We go down for breakfast one day on the Weekend and the food is delicious and worth the price for the amount of food you get. Servers are quick to check on you and get you set with drinks and food comes out hot and quickly and the people are always kind even the patrons in the restaurant. We always have conversations with people even if we don't know them , this place is friendly and welcoming. read more

Joe Snuffy's. Four point five star rating! Hooyah! Not today... I must have come on an off day. Sofie had a brisket sandwich. At Joe Snuffy's, a brisket sandwich is a bun with some beef. No sauce. No greens. I'm thinking the chef washes with sand and pumice and wears sackcloth to work. Beef and bun = brisket sandwich. I had the Chisholm trail steak. Baked potato came with my steak. It was cooked perfectly! I also enjoyed the home made bun that came with my meal... though Sofie ate 3/4 of it before I discovered it was there!! (Not really, just half.) The potato was perfect with two plastic tubes of sour cream. The salad was... well, I attach the photo of this salad. You take a look. When you order a salad in Kansas and say "Blue Cheese" dressing, they give you this white stuff to put on your salad and it does not at all taste like blue cheese... and to compliment your blue cheese, they add a liberal amount of American cheese. Nice. There were flies that kept coming to our table. Some people next to us had hamburgers. The flies would not go to their table, they wanted to hang around my steak dinner. These flies have good taste! I doubt I that will ever return to Abilene, but if I do, I think I'll pack a lunch. First impressions: -I would avoid trying to park in the lot. Spots aren't marked well and there is no way to exit out the back if another car pulls in behind you. -The building is pretty run down and does not have any seating for those waiting for a table aside from a bench outside of the double doors in front of the restaurant. -The decor is dated and the walls and floor are old enough that I don't think any amount of scrubbing would make them appear clean. The experience: -We arrived around 10:50 and waited about 10 minutes for a table. The restaurant was full, but what I would expect for a Sunday morning. -As us and another couple huddled near the "wait to be seated" sign, an employee urged a table packing up their food to "take their time and not rush" -Our drink order was taken within a few minutes of being seated. Our waitress waited quite awhile to come back and take our food order. -Our drinks were refilled one time (two Diet Pepsis) and the waitress also picked up a tea at the table next to us for a refill. We watched her smell the cups to see what was inside at the fill station. I am not sure that my husband and I got the correct drinks back. -I ordered the breakfast skillet and my husband ordered the all American breakfast and a half order of biscuits and gravy. It took over 45 minutes to get our food (and five additional minutes to get our toast). -After bringing our food our waitress never came back. And it took ten minutes for another waitress to bring us our ticket after we were done eating. -As we were leaving we walked passed an employee smoking a cigarette right outside the entrance. The food: -My skillet was great. Everything was pretty simple breakfast food which is what I was expecting. -My husbands food was completely cold. -Biscuits and gravy were good. Overall impression: Our total bill was around $32 which is average for the area. Joe Snuffy's is a dingy and outdated place with subpar service to get decent food if you have time to wait and don't come in starving. If you are driving through the area I would head up to IHOP in JC for much faster service at the same price and quality. If you want more breakfast options and a more "brunch" experience, head to any breakfast restaurant in Manhattan. Even with the drive you will get your food faster than we did. We were hoping to find a regular breakfast place close to home but unfortunately this won't be it. read more

Joe Snuffy's is a very located about a block off the main street in Abliene and is in a very unassuming, non-descript building. If not for all the positive reviews on Yelp, I would never have stopped here for dinner. In fact, you would probably never even notice or find this place unless you were specifically looking for it. Trust the reviews - go look for it and go in for lunch or dinner. This is a hidden gem. NOTE - Joe Snuffy's is CLOSED on Tuesdays. We were there on a Wednesday night. Despite the aforementioned non-descript exterior, the interior is warm and inviting. You're greeted warmly when you come in and are quickly seated. The staff is all very friendly although I think some of the wait staff is high school students and they lack the experience and polish of more seasoned waiters and waitresses. But - they make up for their lack of experience with their enthusiasm. I ordered the Chisholm Trail steak (rare) which was listed as one of their specialties. It was served with a house side salad, roll and choice of 2 sides. I opted for Coleslaw and tater tots. My wife had the garlic grilled shrimp, also with a roll, a side salad, and 2 sides. She opted for the vegetable of the day (peas) and pasta salad. Everything was excellent except for the peas which were uninspired and obviously from a can. My steak was cooked to perfection and was served with grilled onions and mushrooms. The steak, salad, and sides were all excellent. My wife's meal was also excellent except for the peas. The food and service were excellent and the prices are VERY REASONABLE. This is truly a place you need to seek and find. read more

My brother had the Carnivore Omelette and I got the Chicken Fried Steak both come with hash browns. We're were not disappointed. This really had a hometown feeling. Everyone knew each other. We had the breakfast specials and they were delivered hot and fresh. Our waitress was very busy and forgot to refill our coffees and waters but we were enjoying the people and the food too much to really care. I came here for breakfast, with my husband and son, it was packed so we sat at the bar. The wait for food was super long but the staff at the bar were friendly and fun. When the food finally came we were blown away, between the oatmeal, pancakes and omelet yes, super yummy. We also found out they serve very large cinnamon rolls, which were very tasty. My only wish would be they were heated more and the icing would be warm. Do yourself a favor and stop in here. The staff are awesome and the serve is excellent. One more thing, we are out of towners, and yes, people will all turn and stare when you walk in. Lol read more

We also had fried mushrooms as an appetizer; all were excellent with generous portions. Waitress was very friendly and competent. Seemed to be a popular place among locals.
