Waitress was very attentive and checked on me frequently! I ordered the KC Strip-Surf and Turf! Steak was perfect! It was super tender, seasoned great, and cooked perfectly to my liking! Growing up raising livestock I'm very particular about meat, especially beef! I found out they buy from a local farmer and cut their steaks fresh daily, which you could sure tell the difference too! I also had a loaded baked potato that came with actual "real" bacon on it and not just the fake bacon bits. Side salad and roll were also good. Ice tea was freshly brewed as well. Grilled shrimp was okay. Great place to watch sports. Bar is located as you first walk in and then they have the restaurant portion available too. We were in Abilene to meet up with some family and this place was recommended as a great local spot. I feel like in each small town there are often some great hidden gems that the locals frequent and this is definitely one for Abilene. The M&R is unpretentious, and welcoming, but also clean and friendly. I was impressed at how kind the staff was, even to a bunch of out of towners, as I could tell the place was largely full of locals. The food we had was good, and fresh, and it was overall a great spot to meet up. I'd definitely consider it if looking for a local restaurant again in the area. read more

An interesting stop in for lunch. Just visiting from OKC and I took my co workers to lunch. It was an interesting place to say the least. Food was pretty good. I was just not a fan of the onion rings - just not my style. I did get the M&R PB&B burger. I'm willing to try anything and that one caught my eye. Who would have thought peanut butter, bacon & siracha sauce. It was unique and tasty but I will definitely try making mine at home to see if I can replicate. We had just visited the Eisenhower Presidential Library and were looking for a good restaurant for lunch. My husband had done some research and decided that this place would be a good option. Boy, was he right. The parking lot was completely full and there were even some cars parked on the road. There was a line when we got there, but it moved pretty quickly. I opted for the BBQ bacon burger with onion rings, and my husband ordered the pb and j burger. Both burgers were big and juicy with plenty of flavor. Extra napkins are recommended. First of all we arrive at 6:15 gave our drink orders within probably 15 minutes. I took another 15 minutes to get our appetizer we ordered with the drinks and then another 10 or 15 minutes afterwards to get our food order put in- food arrived cold not just warm but cold uneditable I have pictures. My daughter took one bite of her chicken and did not want anymore. My sons ate half of the road. They were so hungry and that was it. What can I say about this place to persuade you?.... In a sea of corn, soy, rolling hills and thunder storms this was an oasis. What I ate was not life changing but I felt at home. After 8 hours on the road a quiet comfortable place to just sit and feel comfortable is all you need. The price is very reasonable, the service warm and authentic, and the building is clean. We recently took a 21 hour road trip across Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa and this was some of the best food we had the whole week. Let's just start with that. The Winner Winner Chicken plate was FANTASTIC. It brought back so many nostalgic memories of food like this from my childhood. We were waited on by a very busy older lady, which just added to the appeal. She was super nice, but they were packed during lunch so it was "no-nonsense." We also got dessert, which I didn't like AS much, but that chicken made up for it. There's not a lot of choice for food in Abilene, it seems, and this place is an easy pick. read more

You can always tell what to expect from how busy a restaurant parking lot is - in this case we anticipated a special experience with a full parking lot, and plenty of people parking in the street and nearby parking to get in on a Sunday afternoon. We stopped by while visiting the nearby presidential library, and we were quickly seated which was nice considering the number of cars - they do have a lot of space inside. My wife enjoyed a very normal bacon cheeseburger , and I had to go with the spicy PBB burger - it's been well written about, and it is quite a crazy combination of peanut butter, bacon and Sriracha - while it was creative, I'm not sure that I'd have it in me to try it a second time. Our server Trista was efficient, and the overall experience was consistent with a burger place with sports on TV screens throughout the restaurant. Pricing is reasonable - note that they do not accept American Express cards FYI. The booth seating is a bit worn, so both the seating and the seat backs were a bit uncomfortable. Since customer services has deteriorated rapidly since COVID, sometimes due to low staffing, sometimes not, I was motivated to leave a 5-star rating for M&R Grill. Met several of my relatives here yesterday (about 12 total) for lunch. Services was outstanding even though we had a large party and the waitress was also very busy with other tables. In addition to outstanding service, food was very good and at a fantastic price. They had numerous $10 lunch specials that could have easily been dinner meals. Normally we don't have any complaints about the M & R Grill here in Abilene, KS. But tonight was not an ordinary night. Did we somehow get sucked into the Twilight Zone? What we took away from our experience tonight, was DO NOT go there if it's less than 2 hours before they close. We arrived about 8:30pm on a Wednesday. The restaraunt closes at 10pm that day. We were told that there was no more rice, or mashed potatoes. We ordered drinks, an appitizer, salads and our meals. The drinks arrived, as did our salads and appitizer, however, BEFORE I even had the chance to put the dressing on my salad (the dressing comes in a cup n the side). The waitress arrived with our meals. She commented that the cooks were trying to get out. It was only about 9:00pm at this time. You have another hour before closing. I had a mushroom and onion topped steak. The onions were undercooked and still had a slight burn, like you find in a raw onion. The steak was cooked well. I only say this because I like my steaks rare. Basically, just char the out side, and give it to me. But really, how could they have messed that up, since our food came in record time. Near the end of our meal, I asked for a refill on my drink. I drank a bit of it before noticing that something was floating in the bottom of the glass. Ok, I'm done.I brought up the floating object to our waitress. She asked if I wanted another drink. I declined. We got our bill. I was disappointed. I felt the least they could have done was removed the price of my drink. read more

Was driving home and wanted to stop and support a local business versus chains. Found this place just a little off I70. Was seated quickly and employees were really friendly. Felt like I was a local and they had known me all my life. Place was clean and parking was easy. I had a sirloin with mashed potatoes and corn. Steak was cooked perfectly. The food is delicious, I was coming from Denver to home and stopped in. I stayed overnight in Abilene, Kansas. The service was good, and it had a home feeling.
