So there I was, standing in my backyard staring up at this huge tree that's managed to grow into a tangled, partially dead, trimmed a bit by a non expert (me), mess and wondering how to proceed. Heck, I don't want the tree to fall on my house later this winter when the wind really kicks in, and so my wife convinces me to give Joe Benigno a call... I do, and he shows up at my house a couple of hours later to review my needs and provide a estimate. He does both, and within minutes he quotes me a price and provides some thoughts on a couple of trees nearby. I let him know that I need to confer with my wife and then I call back and commit to the project, which is tentatively scheduled for about two weeks out. The next day I get a call and they can schedule me two days from the day they called as somebody had left the schedule. The day comes that they are going to do the work and they are able to do the job while we are away, but they were not quite finished when my wife arrived home and she let me know that they had a plethora of help and three different vehicles taking care of the project. She was very impressed with the quality of the clean up they were engaged in and the efficiency of the workers. So, for my wife and I, the whole project took four days from initial call to conclusion of the project. I called to have them look at a maple tree that had a dead branch and I was concerned it might be diseased. I set up a consultation and was told it would be $150 but that half of that would go for any subsequent treatment that might be needed. I have no idea how much consultations should cost or what was involved so I agreed. A guy came out, looked at the tree and said it looked fine but they would come out and cut off the dead branch and give some kind of fertilizer treatment. All this took under a minute I would say. A couple days later a guy came out, cut off one dead branch from the tree (not a big branch as the tree isn't very large. the guy didn't even need to go on a ladder to cut it)and put some kind of hose in the ground for a few minutes with fertilizer. The whole thing took about 10 minutes tops. So how much for 10 minutes of work? $350! Crazy! Do the math and that means they charge $2100 an hr. Seems excessive, no? read more

Watch out for snow removal. First we were quoted $250/hour with a 2 hour minimum. Then on the day we expected them it was $700. I asked if they had looked at the property and was told yes. Thinking they decided it would take between 2 and 3 hours to clear the driveway, I agreed. A rude man showed up on a large cat and cleared the driveway in 45 minutes but left a mess. He couldn't get his $700 check soon enough. Then he went to our neighbor and offered to do his yard for $350 because he said we paid his travel time to drive that cat there. We contacted Benigno's to have several large trees removed from our property and they arrived the same day to take a look and provide a quote. We also had two other tree services provide the same, we selected Benigno who had the lowest bid. We are so happy we selected Benigno, they were prompt, very professional and cleaned up like they were never here. The work they performed was so amazing we spent the day watching them! I called up for a cord of wood on a Friday after 2pm and was accommodated with a truck delivery some short hours later. Wood is solid! Got a fresh batch of pine some medium and big chips of wood. Everyone works as a team and they are all super friendly and communicative. Would definitely recommend for your next wood delivery. read more

I contacted "Benigno's Tree Service" becausde they were in the local Wise Buy - a female called me on Sunday and said that an arborist would be at my property on Monday. No one ever showed up on Monday but around 4:30 the same woman called, asked me the same questions, and denyed calling on Sunday. That's when I thanked her for calling, canceled my request and hung up. Then on Tuesday morning, I got a call from the same woman but the caller ID was identified as "LLC BBS 1-415-307-3372" which is listed to Cedar Creek Firearms. Something is very fishy - be very careful if you call for estimates or service. read more

Got a very reasonable quote, and they were able to do the work the next day. Showed up right on time, took down 3 trees of 40 feet tall or so, plus one shorter one, cleaned up dead wood from another, ground up a number of old stumps, cut the wood into splitable rounds and stacked them where I wanted them, and was able to put the chips (which I requested) right where I needed them. They were in and out in 2 hours, the crew worked like a well oiled machine. Clean up was like they were never there. Professional, fast/efficient and reasonably priced. Hired Joe after getting 3 bids for tree removal. All bids were within a few hundred dollars but liked Joe's demeanor. His office staff was great. Took a few a times to get the crank up the hill due to ice but when the weather worked so did the crew. 5 trees removed with stump grinding about 6 hours. All haUled away. GREAT job one and all. You pay $1200.00 to have a job done and you end up doing it yourself. Sorry to say but, this is the last time I will call on J.B. tree service to do a job. Had the Ash tree trimmed in the early spring; the crew doing a rush job trimmed the tree so it looked like a Lolli Pop (leaf bunches at the ends). Come growing season, all the weight is on the ends. The branches break and they get hung up in the tree. Last wind storm we had (10/20/17) more branches came down (one hitting the house). Everytime a branch comes down, I have to go out and cut and clean up. I should charge these guy $1200.00. Never again!! Judging by the reviews, maybe you have to be a good looking babe or have a simple "no brainer" job before one gets the job done right. So much for giving people the benefit of the doubt after reading reviews! read more

WOW is all I can say. From my first phone call to when my job was done within 48 hours. They ACTUALLY answer their phone when you call. The other companies I contacted did not answer their phones. As far as price goes I do not know how they compare with other tree trimmers because I was so pleased with Augie and his professional demeanor I just went with this company. They are SUPER quick and SUPER efficient. Not a branch was left behind. I highly recommend this company for your tree trimming needs. I have a large property with many trees and I will for sure use them again for all of my tree needs. read more

Joe Benigno Tree Service did an outstanding job clearing the years of growth on my mountain property. After five days of clearing trees from 50+ feet high to very flammable manzanita brush, I now feel safer and my property looks amazing. Because of the concern with clearing such a large property, I was very interested in the company's insurance coverage for both liability and employees. The company had some of the best liability coverage of all the companies I called and all of their employees were coverage by workers compensation coverage. This company may not be the least expensive, but I was willing to pay a little xtra for experience, quality and peace of mind. read more

Received a quote for removing our tree. Called to make an appointment to get it done. The receptionist that answered was extrememly rude. Told me to basically shut up so she could talk over me and tell me information I wasn't looking for. When she was done talking, I asked if I could ask a question and she was so rude I couldn't even finish my sentence. I ended up cancelling my appointment and went somewhere else. This company is amazing. I decided on a Wednesday morning that I needed to find someone to take out two very tall pine trees in my front yard. I made two calls. One to Joe Benigno, and one to another company. Joe arrived at my house in 2 hours to look at the project and give me a quote. The other company's message said they "will get back to me within 24 hours." The choice was clear. The price was right. I asked when he would be able to get it done and he said next week. "But we're doing a job at the Capital and it might be done today, and if so we can do it tomorrow." Sure enough, Thursday morning at 11:15 4 trucks and crew of 6 are out front and starting to take down the trees. I was mesmerized. They worked like a well oiled machine. Everyone had a role, and no one stopped working at all. Limbs were cut and tossed into the chipper. Then the first tree was felled and they were all over it while one member started in on the second tree. One truck filled with mulch and chipped wood, the other filled with firewood. I asked to keep two large chunks as a memento and they were so kind about making sure they were the right size and rolled them into place for me. An hour and half later, the trees are gone, stumps ground, mulch spread, roadway and driveways cleaned and they were off. I wish I could give them 6 stars! Joe Benigno's crew just left after falling and removing a large dead pinyon pine on our property. I have been concerned about this old tree for several weeks. Joe's crew showed up right on time and within an hour had fallen the tree, cut it into firewood size, chipped the small branches, raked the area clean, loaded their equipment and gone! Joe and his crew did an amazing job in our backyard. Not only did they remove the two trees we requested, but they also trimmed branches (unasked but greatly appreciated!) and even removed a small dead aspen tree. Then, they spent quite a bit of time cleaning up, even raking nearby trees. There were tarps laid out to collect leaves along the way. We would be remiss if we did not mention the office staff. We found them to be incredibly quick to return phone calls and answer questions. There quotes were reasonable. We called on a Friday and had two cottonwood trees removed on Monday. My tree's have some sort of bug. Last fall I called to make an appointment to have someone come take a look. I informed them I have dogs that need to be kenneled before someone comes in and they couldn't just drop by. Never got a call back, Joe shows up without an appointment, never comes on the property to look at all the tree's, the dogs were loose, and tells me (over the fence) they can't do anything until spring because of the type of problem I have. I then get a bill for $175 which I'm told can be deducted from the cost of what ever they do in the future. Now I'm getting non-stop calls to set up an appointment to do the work we supposedly discussed. What a scam. read more

What is the point of having a receptionist who can't make appointments? I called for a quote and the next day a man came over and quoted me $1750 to remove 2 trees. I told him I was getting other quotes and asked availability and he said they could get it done within the next couple weeks. He came on a Thursday. The following week, I called on Monday September 11 and told them I would like to use their service. I also explained in my initial call that I would have to coordinate with two neighbors to remove fencing so they could do their work. The lady said she would have to call me back with an appointment date. I did not receive a call back until September 14. She told me they could do it the 25th. I tried to coordinate with neighbors but that date wouldn't work. I called back on September 18 and said that wouldn't work and asked if they could the 26th. She said she would have to get back to me but that he was going to be in the area that day. I again reiterated that I had to plan and coordinate with my neighbors because of the fencing needing removal and if I could get a few dates that might help make things easier. Have I got a call back? NOPE. It's the 22 of September. I'll be going elsewhere! read more

I made an appointment on Wednesday for Thursday afternoon to get an estimate for a very large pine tree that is slowly dying and needs to removed on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. I live a few minutes from the property and it was confirmed both on Wednesday and on Thursday morning that they would call me before arriving so I could meet with Joe at the property. I spent all afternoon waiting for that call and at 5:18 called the office to find out what had happened. I was understandably upset but was not given an apology and instead was told that I was rude and inconsiderate and that they pride themselves on their customer service. I was also told that the homeowner would be unhappy to know that I treat vendors so badly. I eventually hung up and this woman then called my cell phone and left a voice message to the same effect. Then Joe calls to tell me he'd already been to the property at 1:30, rang the buzzer which was answered by the homeowner, and walked the grounds with the homeowner and was going to submit a bid. I do landscape and interiorscape on this property and took on this meeting because the homeowner and property manager both had to go to Reno that morning. They had just returned when Joe showed up. I sat at home for over 5 hours waiting to hear from this outfit and frankly would never send someone to the property to give a bid without a prior appointment and understanding. I am getting other bids for this job and will definitely relate my experience to the homeowner who is a very thoughtful and sweet person. What is so striking is their belief that they are somehow the victims in this situation when they didn't keep their agreement to call me. read more

We recently called this tree service to come to and look at a few trees, a few that looked not well in my eyes. Joe came out and walked the property, he suggested treatment for the beautiful trees that i had thought were dying (which worked wonders) he pointed out a few trees that were badly diseased & dying, he suggested the removal of them. This outfit may be good at some things. Customer service isn't one of them. Expensive and ignorant of local botanical viruses affecting ornamental horticulture trees. The company field rep didn't return my calls after I called them to explain that their work, which was done off schedule and when I wasn't home, was incomplete and insufficient.
