TL;DR Went for a basic single process / grey coverage and left with brassy hot roots…read more After having a couple bad experiences at my previous salon, I decided to try this location given the strong reviews. I needed a single process to cover my greys - I have medium brown hair, no highlights. Should be simple enough. Upon getting in the chair, the stylist mentioned she thought my greys looked resistant, I agreed because I know that my color usually has to sit for a while, but she didn't ask me any questions beyond that. Instead, the she spent most of the time suggesting I should get highlights (which is not unusual when discussing how to add more dimension), but this was after I just explained how I stopped getting highlights a few years back because I didn't like how much it damaged my hair. When it was time to process, she put me under heat, which I have never had done before in the past 6 years of getting this service. I thought it was odd at first, but not knowing anything about hair coloring, assumed it was necessary for the type of product they use at this salon. I was under heat for about 10 minutes which felt far too long as my hairline was starting to sting badly. As soon as we started drying, it seemed like my roots were much lighter than normal, but once fully dry the color looked accurate enough. I don't know if it was the lighting in the salon or what, but it wasn't until I got home that I noticed my roots were so hot and brassy! While I blame myself for not looking more closely at the time, I imagine a Level 6 Stylist would have easily noticed this, yet she didn't say anything about it all and acted like my hair color was matched perfectly. Very disappointing that she never asked about heat being necessary previously for my greys and just assumed to use it, knowing heat during a single process is the fastest way to getting hot roots. Giving 2 stars because the rest of the staff was nice and the blow out was good. Sadly I'm now on the hunt for another new salon.

Cherry Le did my makeup for a television premiere last week. It was my first time getting my makeup…read moredone since my wedding almost twelve years ago, and Cherry made this middle-aged mom feel glamorous and red carpet ready. I found Cherry on Yelp and messaged her just a few days ahead of the Tuesday night event. She responded with her quote and the relevant details, and after mulling over whether or not to spend the money, I secured the appointment with a deposit the night before. She only had a 1:00 slot available, but she was able to come to me, meeting me in my hotel room. She arrived right on time with an arsenal of beauty supplies. I liked her immediately. She was so friendly and energetic, and said flattering things about my skin, obviously music to my 39-year-old ears. I had a great time hanging out with her. She asked what I was looking for and I said I was walking a red carpet and just wanted to look good. She took me through her overall plan and started with my eye makeup, layering on colors and checking in to see if I was okay with the level of drama. I didn't know enough to weigh in and let her do her thing, and less than an hour later, I was fully dolled up. She even put fake eyelashes on top of my already fake eyelashes. To be honest, I was a little worried at first. I looked very dramatic for two in the afternoon, and I wondered if I'd let her go overboard. Once I was dressed and at the premiere, though, I felt fairly confident and comfortable and got lots of compliments. I walked the carpet, the second time I've done that in my life, and stood and posed awkwardly for a million photos. I've seen the pictures from both events and am really glad I got my makeup done this time around. The bolder makeup just worked better with those bright lights. I'm not professionally pretty (I'm a writer, which is, if anything, an ugly person's job) so it was fun to get my face painted and hang out with the attractive people who go to television premieres. Thanks to Cherry, I looked as good as my genes would allow. If you're looking for a professional makeup artist in New York City, I'd highly recommend Beauty by Cherry Le. She's a sweetheart, and she does excellent work.

I had a special event and I wanted to get my make up done professionally. I was concerned because in the past, when having my make up done it was just "too much." At the VERY last minute (maybe 2-3 weeks out?), after realizing I didn't want to be stressed out and scrambling the day of my wedding trying to put myself together, I decided to try to find someone in the NY area who had experience doing Asian make-up and might be available. I had a really hard time finding make-up artists in the NY/Brooklyn area with this experience and the first person I reached out to was (unsurprisingly) booked, but she passed along Emi's name as someone who could be a good fit and was available. I booked a trial, at which Emi was responsive to my requests and preferences, but also had great recommendations for both my make-up and hair that would look good in photos, feel comfortable, last throughout the day/night, and flatter my features. The day-of my wedding, she 100% hit the mark. I've never felt more beautiful and comfortable with full make-up and hair (normally I don't feel like myself with full make-up and hair). Everything she did for me was flattering, classy, modern, and perfect for the setting/occasion... really exactly what I wanted and I didn't need to give her much input at all. You can tell from her portfolio of work that she has great range, but for anyone who prefers a modern but natural look (like me!) but still wants to look their absolute best for an important day and the many, many photos that would be taken, Emi knew exactly what to do. Hiring her for my wedding is one of the best decisions I made (albeit last minute!). Our wedding photographer was also so impressed with her work that he asked me for her info to pass on to other wedding clients looking for make-up artists with experience doing Asian hair and make-up - a statement to how hard it is to find someone with this experience and skillset.    I would trust Emi to do my make-up or hair any day, for any occasion.
