Let me start by stating that I love the new cafe! The front counter area is much bigger and features a cool lime green wall. The waiting area for takeaway is much bigger with a few seats to sit at too. The dine in area is beautiful with ample seating and a fresh, clean, open bright and airy feel to it - love the polished concrete floors. What I love the most though is the inclusion of bathroom amenities! No longer do you have to toddle off to the park when you need to go :)
Okay,,so now for the rest. This was their first day back trading since the rebulid and it was busy! Taking that into consideration they were doing a great job.
Love that they have a variety of different milks available for coffees, and gluten free options for most meals. The menu selection looks good - although I didn't order food today. I did order a smoothie, and after initially being disappointed that it was not as healthy an option as I thought (it has icecream in it), once I voiced my doubt about ordering it, the lady serving me did offer a number of alternatives. In the end my 2 year old son drank it anyways, but the teency bit I got was not bad. More milkshake than smoothie, but that's just my opinion.
The coffee I ordered. Tall, almond milk flat white, was strong, but not bitter and definitely gave me my morning kick!
I did miss the healthy treats they usually have in the display cabinet, but I was reassured that they will be back soon.
If you're in the area, want a good coffee, friendly service and a nice enclosed park to take the kids to after, absolutely make a stop at Joans. Its an institution in Hawthorndene :) read more
