French Toast with Maple Syrup and (added) Bacon
Michael M.

This is now my favourite place in the Adelaide Hills. The venue is hidden away, and I was kind of thinking I was in the wrong area - but the cafe has a nice outlook and easy easy parking. Inside is lovely and there's a decent outdoor area which we sat in and enjoyed a cool hills breeze on a warm summer morning. The service was impeccable, friendly and knowledgeable. The food.... What can I say about the food? YUMMMMM!!! I ordered the bacon and egg (scrambled) roll - and when it came out I was a bit.. What the? The egg looked a bit burnt, and ditto with the bacon. I liked the fact that it wasn't served up "pretentiously" - it was just a simple roll on the plate. Then I took a bite and OMG .. It was heaven. I don't know what they do to their scrambled eggs (and I am a very fussy egg person), but they were so soft, delicious, just.. Melt in your mouth. Lovely crunch of the bacon - and the baguette was so fresh, I'm sure it was baked that morning! My friends serve of the French toast was equally delicious: he described the food as evil :) (in a good way) lol. Lastly - perfect coffee and milkshake! I highly recommend this place!

Mmm philly cheese-steak!

Tohsti - Tandoori Toastie

Great new spot for comfort food in the market…read more Make sure you look for it in the Market Arcade and not in the Central Market (which I did for 15 minutes...) Once I did find it I was welcomed by friendly staff. Basic toasties at $7.50 and more adventurous toasties are $9.50, each with about 2 or 3 different ingredients. Looks like each toastie takes max 5 minutes to make and if you dine in, it comes with a little salad too. I tried the Tandoori Chicken toastie on recommendation from the staff and was not disappointed. Coffee was pretty good too. Great for a quick lunch if you're in the area, don't forget to leave a note on the blackboard too!

Toasties... Mmmmm. What can possibly go wrong?…read more The newly opened Tohsti is already getting a bit of a buzz and was featured in CityMag awhile ago. It's conveniently located in the newly revamped (check out all the new stores!) Central Market arcade, best located near the entrance coming in from Gouger St. The 'gourmet' toasties start form $9.50, they also do house shakes etc and a whole slew of other brilliant creations. If sweet toasties are you thing, they do that too! I got the roast pork, sauerkraut and cheese toastie with pumpkin bread which was pretty damn good. It comes with a salad as well which makes the meal perfect! I also go the Agro milkshake - give them a go! Protip: Come before or after lunchtime, it gets pretty busy and service can be lacking a bit.

The thing is that during the summer months poor Daniel's wife is so good at flipping burgers and making sandwiches she gets run off her feet. This is one popular hot spot for folks making the trek down Henley Beach Road to the beach or from the beach. Good solid hamburgers with a mix of salads available and a range of cakes. There are all the grocery type items you'll need if you live in the immediate area and for those of you wishing to stop for a drink there are all the obvious choices available including Adelaide's favourite - Iced Coffee - yes the whole Deli has been painted up to resemble a big carton of Farmer's Union Iced Coffee, but you know, that's just how things get done when you run a family store. It really is the fresh food that is made, the cut sandwiches and the flipped burgers that have made this a number one secret venue for several years now. There is outdoor seating and tables for up to half a dozen or so people and there is a park right next door with trees and grass, so it's an ideal spot to stop if you are on the move. I couldn't speak more highly about it than Daniel's good lady herself - and rest assured, she will tell you how popular the menu is! It's first and foremost a deli, so don't expect much more than that - but if you want to order take away you can call ahead, and if you don't mind waiting on site, it is well worth the wait. I'll have a burger with the lot!

Oh yeah, this is one f*cking awesome food truck!…read more Today I sampled both the southern-style chicken and slaw bun with pickles, onion rings and ranch, as well as the Texas pulled pork and slaw bun with BBQ corn and BB pickles. (both $9) In a word? YUM-AZING. To top it off, they have *cherry* Dr. Pepper in the fridge. These guys literally cannot get any damn better! The truck shows up in various spots around the CBD for lunchtime, so check their FB page for where they're going to be on a given day. They usually announce it the night before, along with the menu items they'll be serving.

There's usually only 2 or 3 choices served each time the Van is on the road. You get to choose from some of the following tasty treats: Toasted Rueben, Texas Pulled Pork Roll, Pastrami on Rye, Cajun Prawn Po Boy, Beef Debris Po Boy, Philly Cheese Steak, Southern Fried Chicken Bun or even a Salad and of course the always present Deep Fried Pickles The home made Slaw is an excellent add on the great tasting meats used and even a BBQ Corn Cob that comes with the Pulled Pork Roll adds an extra something. The flavours are just great and at a decent price. To top it all off the owner/staff in the Van are great, going out of their way to remember their regulars. a real nice touch.

I usually get a coffee (which of course comes with a wee biscuit), a toasted ham and cheese croissant (sometimes two), and a sweet somethin - often a custard tart or a slice of apricot or blueberry pie. If I've got time to sit down, the pie comes with fresh cream. The staff aren't always the friendliest bunch, but it doesn't bother me much. They're quick and professional at what they do. The cafe is always clean, although it is a little dark but it's a warm darkness, like the inside of a hug. The car park is another massive positive for this place (car parking in Mt Barker is an ongoing battle) it's big and there's plenty of turning room. I'm always able to get a park. A bakery that's like a professional dark hug, with a big car park. What's not to like?
