After a day of driving through the serene and picturesque Adelaide Hills, it was time to stop for a bite to eat and a nice cold beer. As we approached I noticed someone up on the corner of the balcony, why it was non other than Elvis...hey there dude. Walking though the hallway I noticed pictures of the pub from days gone by, with a dado of greeny brown tiles on either side and a wooden stairway, past that on the left we walked through to the Bistro area. It was dark with a wood stained dado, more pictures and dark wooden boothes on either side of the room, old fashioned tables and chairs, a circular window (like in play school), and french door leading to the outside seating area. Now for the menu, I don't expect to pay alot for a pub meal and just because we were sitting in the bistro and not the front bar, seeing as there's one kitchen meals come out from for both, I felt like saying to my hubby lets go. But it was hot and we were hungry and thirsty. Meals ranged in price from 0.50 (bread roll) to 38.00, despite the fact you wouldn't order three bread rolls with butter and a beer as a meal! I decided on the $15.90 Roast of the Day (beef with veges) and my hubby had the Fish and Chips (Barramundi) $22.00. Wine menu was from $5.50 per glass to $10.70 with the majority being from SA wine regions. Most expensive bottle of Aussie wine $115 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz and most expensive European $120 Moet & Chandon N.V Epernay France. I gave all those a wide berth, sticking to beer! Celebrations Bottle Shop is attached to the side with a drive through and there are 32 poker machines. My roast was edible but drowned in gravy - and when hungry almost anything tastes good - potatoes were nice and crisp on the outside, the veges were too soft and had the bejesus cooked out of them. My hubby's fishnchips was huge like a harpoon size fillet of fish x 2 and golden chips. Only a handful of diners but it being a Monday not surprising and personally I wouldn't stop there again for a meal but the one exeption was the beer...it was perfectly cold and the best I'd tasted for a while...Coopers Pale the best beer in the universe!

This pub is typical of the Adelaide Hills, offering a nice sized dining area and cozy fireplace near the front bar for the winter. There is something homely about the pub and its staff. I do recommend their speciality "Benny's Ribs" which are sweet with Hoisin sauce and well spiced. This meal comes in different sizes, 3 ribs, 6 ribs or 12 ribs in entree and main size served with crunchy wedges and fancy slaw. These ribs are worth getting messy for! Meals priced $13 - $35, so there is something to suit all budgets. One little surprise at this fine establishment is Benny. While eating my ribs I noticed a little dog walk through the dining area. I absolutely love dogs, and enquiried about him. Especially after seeing him featured on the menu. I was told by the staff that was Benny and is not actually owned by the pub. He is a neighbours dog. Apparently Benny makes his way from the neighbours house around lunch time every day and hangs out at the pub until his owner meets him for a knock off drink and returns home. How cute! This pub is definitely family friendly!

Both keep the key…read morepoints you mentioned. *Version 1 - Google/TripAdvisor style* *Balhannah Hotel - 0 stars* Worst dining experience I've ever had. The food is consistently undercooked. We ordered steak _well done, no blood_ and had to send it back 3 times. Each time it came out raw with blood running across the plate. Staff shrugged and said "steak is cooked with blood coming out, it's natural". Hygiene is non-existent - 0/10. The waitress had her fingers all over the food when she brought the plate out. After all the back-and-forth to the kitchen, we both got sick. It genuinely felt like something was done to the food. The staff stand around gossiping about customers loud enough for everyone to hear. When we raised the issues politely, we were treated like rubbish. To top it off, I received an aggressive, insulting email from the manager/owner saying we are no longer welcome, just for complaining about raw food and poor hygiene. *Food*: Undercooked, unsafe *Service*: Rude, unprofessional, gossipy *Hygiene*: Disgusting - staff touching food *Management*: Hostile and unaccountable Avoid at all costs. Anyway, they had a nice beer on tap, which I certainly did appreciate, and the service wasn't too bad either. They also have quite a decent sized beer garden, but we ended up spending most of our time in the front bar, which was quiet, and really nice as well.

I came for a visit on a Saturday, it was quite busy, and the staff had asked if we had made a reservation. I suggest booking a table if you're planning a visit, especially on a weekend. The brewery has a great airy and open feel to it, a variety of tables and seating, and great decorations hanging about. There was a large variety of pub style to choose from, I opted for the nachos, although my friend wanted salad and was told that both salad options listed on the menu were no longer being offered. The best part, however, were the endless options of beers. They had a variety of selections on tap, a few ciders, and even cans and bottles to take home. I ordered the Zeppelin IPA and I loved it. Overall, I highly recommend paying this brewery a visit up in the hills, it was great.

We went with their "feed us" option and left the choices to the kitchen and we weren't disappointed. All ingredients are prepared in-house by the staff, from the bread and butter to the wine. Apparently the menu changes a lot based on what fresh ingredients they have sourced that day. The dishes were meat-light, which I actually appreciated since I tend to shy away from ordering vego dishes at meals and that meant I got to experience some nice surprises I wouldn't normally have chosen for myself. The wine (recommended by the server) was delicious. The staff are all super-friendly, and the vibe is very relaxed, like you're eating at a mate's place. It's the sort of food you'd usually dress up for, but without the stuffy presentation or attitude. We were over-dressed. We were at a small booth, but the real action appears to be at a large central shared table, so be prepared to make some new friends. The interior fit-out in general is beautiful - lots of carefully crafted wooded details. The only tip - remember you're in the hills. Dress warm :) It's lovely inside, but you have to go outside to get to the toilet and that can be a bit chilly. I can't recommend this place enough. Can't wait to go back for a second go around.
