This is a great little marketplace for friends and families to go to. It's convenient and full of interesting items/foods. The place is spacious with a clean boutique look. There's a coffee bar that serves Stumptown coffee, a bakery & mini deli in the middle, and shelves of imported and homemade ingredients. This place caters to the great community; lots of families are dining inside and outside, the service is so kind, and their food is fresh. I ended up getting an iced brew to cool me down. Me and my sister had a wonderful time sitting around and enjoying our coffee. We wanted to try more, so I decided to purchase Joan's Parmesan Artichoke dip with sliced baguette. It was the best artichoke dip I've ever had compared to the restaurants. This is a steal for $6! I suggest people coming here and taking their time looking around and trying Joan's items. Having a seat and eating while maintaining a conversation is the way to have it. Overpriced, mediocre food in a place that is disguised as a specialty marketplace, but is really just an over-glorified Ralph's. Ambiance (3/5): Joan's is your quintessential LA brunch/lunch place. The interior is minimal and classy with its airy lighting; black and white, hexagonal tiles; and marble countertops. Their original location on 3rd St (hence the name) attracts a rather homogenous crowd: celebrities and affluent people alike. The ordering system was pretty confusing. There are separate counters for food, cheese, and drinks and pastries, but there isn't any guidance on where to order once you walk in. My friends and I were awkwardly standing in between the counters looking at their printed menus, until a worker directed us to the left side of the restaurant where we could order our entrees. Service (4/5): Service wasn't bad, but it also wasn't worth remembering. Despite it being busy inside on a Friday during lunchtime, our food actually came out within 5-10 minutes! However, we weren't offered any water and didn't see any pitchers inside to serve ourselves. Food (3/5): I ordered the Prosciutto di Parma Sandwich ($14.95), which was bland and not filling enough. For $17+ after tax and tip, I expected more for what tasted like a packaged sandwich you'd get on an airplane. The mozzarella and arugula tasted pretty fresh, but the prosciutto and ciabatta were very dull and uninspiring. The sandwich also only came with a small side of pickles, which were pretty good, but for the price I was paying I expected to get at least some chips or fruit on the side? My friends ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich ($13.95) and the Short Rib Sandwich ($14.95). I didn't try either of these sandwiches, but my friend who got the Fried Chicken Sandwich said her sandwich was just okay. The fried chicken wasn't crispy enough, and the sandwich itself was very messy. The Short Rib Sandwich looked really good, as the bread was well-toasted and the meat looked juicy. Parking: We each parked at Studio City Public Parking a few blocks away and walked over. I don't remember the hourly rate, but it's only a $6 all-day maximum. I ended up paying less than $2 for a couple of hours. However, they only accept cash! TLDR: You're really just paying for the ambiance here. If you're planning on getting just a quick lunch, you're honestly better off getting something at the grocery store for a fraction of the price. read more

For a second day in a row I walk in to restaurant in search of my mini baguettes with Brie and Ham, and for second day in a row a cashier tell me they don't have them, that they are out, try tomorrow. I ask them to make some more for me to have and they say NO. How come they can't make a piece of bread with cheese for me and my kids, not even offer a substitute. You guys sell sandwiches!!! Never again will I step foot in that place. The lack of imagination and the total disregard for servicing a client (first visit yesterday ) and a man with 2 small children the last time I visited today, left me with no desire to return. I still have the sassy - snobby aftertaste of my last interactions with the staff. Overpriced and snobby - pretentious poor service. FOOD: I got the Fried Chicken Sandwich and my friends got the Prosciutto di Parma Sandwich and the Short Rib Sandwich. All three of these sandwiches came with a little side of sliced pickles, which were super good! Personally, my sandwich was just mediocre. I just didn't think the chicken was crispy enough. The flavors were pretty basic as well, nothing really stood out. The sandwich was also really messy and just ended up going everywhere. My friend who got the Short Rib Sandwich said it was really good and she even had to leave a few bites left because she was so full. My friend who got the Prosciutto di Parma Sandwich said that it was also just okay. She didn't think the sandwich was filling enough and was still hungry after. We all agreed that the pickles were good though lol. WAIT: There was really no wait, but the place itself is so busy it's hard to find a table to sit at. Once you find a table, they bring the food out pretty quickly. I think the food came out within 5-10 minutes of sitting down. Consistently delicious food and nice seating outside. They have a bunch of fancy cheeses and meats that I will buy when I'm rich one day, and their breakfasts are amazing. I get the fried egg sandwich and sub the Canadian bacon with mushrooms and IT. IS. AWESOME. Their coffee is great and the service is fast. We come here monthly! Weekends are slammed. You'll probably have to park far away. Stop by Big 5 sports a few stores down and make a nice little Saturday of it. read more

A wonderful selection of delicious food in a great facility. This is a restaurant where you go up to the counter and order your food. There is one counter for normal food and another for coffee and desserts. It may be a little difficult to find parking in front but there is street parking a few blocks away. I went here on a Saturday morning and even though it was crowded I ordered and received my food pretty quickly. There is a huge selection of food from salads, to eggs, to sandwiches. I got a delicious salad that seemed healthy. It had lettuce, amazing goat cheese, and delicious grilled chicken. The price wasn't too bad and the serving of chicken in my salad was very generous. Every other dish I saw other people get looked amazing as well and I look forward to trying other dishes in the future! read more

News Flash ! Restaurants have been open in LA county for a while now, but I don't think Joan's on 3rd has gotten the memo. They are still closed - There is an opening in the doorway to order from and some outdoor tables. If you need to use the restroom, you must wait for a manager to come so they can take your temperature. When the food came - everything was overly cold - bread was semi stale from the cold. It's clear that nothing is being made fresh but it has all been sitting in the refrigerator for too long. Now, before people think I am not taking Covid seriously.... the annoyance comes from the fact that they are still taking these measures, but they are NOT cleaning their seating areas in between customers at all. The tiny opening at the door makes for people bunching up in "line" to order and many more are milling about the door and where people are eating waiting for their food to go. Additionally, they are still operating on a limited menu - so the whole experience is subpar. It makes NO sense and the food and service suffer for it. This visit was made in June, I am not sure if now that it is July anything has changed but I will not be back to find out. read more

I absolutely love how cute this place is. I came here for lunch with a girlfriend because it had been previously recommended to us. We were not disappointed. I ordered a tuna melt from the food area and it was delicious the bread was perfectly toasted and the tuna salad itself was amazing. I also got a chai latte, which is my go to drink at any cafe, but it's safe to say the chai here might be my new favorite. The place itself is very laidback & the staff is friendly, they had no problem answering questions my friend and i had. I think people come here more for the ambiance than the actual food. Nonetheless, the food was alright. My friend and I ordered a tuna melt and the veggie rice bowl to split. The tuna melt was actually really good but super oily and left us both feeling heavy afterwards. The veggie rice bowl was underwhelming and could use more seasoning, but the coconut lime sauce it came with was good. The place itself is very cute and there is a section where you can order food and a coffee and pastry section. There is an adequate amount of seating indoors and outdoors. You take your number and hope to find a table! We went on a Friday afternoon and it was pretty busy. Prices were okay and so was the customer service. I've heard about this place soooo much and I do not understand the hype. They have no vegetarian proteins (tofu, tempeh, etc) and their vegetarian sandwich was "out of stock" so my lunch options were literally soup, a grilled cheese, or a caesar salad. Honestly so shocked a place that has so much hype in LA has hardly any vegetarian options. I got a caesar and the dressing was so thick, almost like a spread. There was so much parmesan in the salad. Everything I have had hear is good. Not amazing. And if I'm being perfectly frank, a little disappointing especially considering the price. However, the exception to this, is their pickles. Holy cow. I've been to Joan's many times, and usually overlooked the Ficelle sandwich - never again! Delightfully simple, delicious, perfect with a glass of rosé. The reason this is a 3 is because this WAS one of my favorite places to eat. (So for the other times that I enjoyed myself I am doing an average). Most of the time the food and atmosphere is good. Today was a shit show. I'm sorry, but I was taught not to complain and I grew up never returning anything no matter what! And now especially because I am kind of in this same industry I try to be more understanding. However, if I didn't live so far away, I would have drove back, slammed the food onto the counter and demanded my money back. On top of waiting over half an hour for two sandwiches (which was fine, it's my fault for going on a weekend), several people who I SAW order after us "take out" got their food before us (probably because they were vocal and demanding about having to wait a few min)... and when we got home, not only were the sandwiches wrong, we paid $25 for basically ham and mayo on white bread!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU F'ING kidding me?!?!?! It was supposed to be the apricot glazed ham sandwich. The ONLY thing I asked to be altered was the bread because my mother has trouble chewing bread that is hard. The worst part was waiting that long for effing BREAD. I wouldn't even be that mad if it was rushed and a mistake. But that's a really expensive sandwich. I can't believe I've lived in LA two years and only tried Joan's for the first time last week. I had the Turkey Club and the famous chocolate chip cookie. The sandwich was more than enough for one person and I couldn't even finish two thirds but that is by no means a complaint. The tomato and lettuce were fresh and crisp and they didn't go overboard on the mayo. The chocolate chip cookie was giant as well but so good, not too hard and not too soft. The seating is cafeteria style, you order and take a number and though there are a few small private tables for groups of 2-4 they were full at lunch time again not a complaint. It was a little pricey for lunch in my opinion. The club sandwich, cookie, and a coke came to over $20 with a tip but, I have no regrets because it was SO good. Tons and tons of options, gluten free and vegetarian friendly too. So many desserts and fun gourmet treats to look at and try. I can't wait to go back! read more

So it's been months since I've ordered from Joan's and for whatever dumb reason I decided to give them another try today. I always leave Joan's feeling like a million bucks, or I mean, feeling like I spent a million bucks. But seriously, everything tastes so good here. I tried their breakfast sandwich and it was one of the best I've ever had. Their freshly made baguettes are so soft and good. The pumpkin spice loaves from the bakery are to die for. Everything tastes organic and fresh. The ambiance is def more pretentious than your normal bakery/deli, but it has it all! There's a section for cheese, pastas, candy, coffee, baked goods, and restaurant food! There are a couple long communal tables and an outdoor patio that gets filled pretty quickly! Eating in store is nice unless you're the kind of person who doesn't enjoy people as the seating is largely community seating. Meaning you're going to sit along side other people.
