Met with Jim the owner and we discussed the best way to attack my needs. With an estimate and time to pick up the parts was done, I left. Got a call within half the time expected saying my parts were finished. Paid and left to re-assemble the bike, and everything was perfect! What can I say other than I'm really glad I went to Galvin's Machine shop. They have my business from now on. Highly recommended!

These tools are used in an air hammer so needed this machine shops expertise in the type of material the tools were to be machined from. That is not what I got. Instead of using 9130 Chrome moly or similar very hard and durable material, the shop chose stainless steel and charged $360 for the two tool bits. We didn't get through the first job and the tools had bent and mushroomed in the air hammer resulting in a difficult task of removing them from the air hammer. I returned them to Jim Galvin and he dismissed my concerns stating that I told him we were using them to set aluminum buck rivets so I got what I asked for and that I somehow was at fault because I didn't ask for a more durable tool material. What? As a shop owner who was relying on the expertise of this machine shop to use their best judgment and expertise to select the correct material to machine a tool part from, what would a lay person get from this shop. The attitude I got from Jim was arrogant and dismissive for an overcharge and defective result. I purchased McDonald Douglas aircraft bit rivet setting set of 13 tools for less than $60 and the original bit I had machined at a local shop 2 years ago was $100, so to have this price sprung on me when I picked up the two tools and then get substandard material that failed and Jim's dismissive attitude was unprofessional. I will not be back and anyone who needs any machining should be cautious if you choose Galvin Machining.

Gerlinger Steel and Supply - Voila: A properly designed bird feeder pole that won't lean. And it is elegant too.

Hubby wondered if we could find a pole where the weight of the feeder was aligned with the vertical axis of the pole. The short answer was no; no one seemed to sell such a logical design. Moreover, it was almost impossible to find someone to bend a metal rod to our specifications. An Etsy vendor strung us along for 8 m before admitting they were too busy. Local decorative iron places we called said such a small job would be prohibitively expensive. So we turned to Yelp and that is how we found Gerlinger. They are a heavy duty steel company, but came up with our Yelp search term if metal bending. Violet answered our query promptly and put us in touch with Barry and Derek who gave us a reasonable quote for the design we supplied. They did a great job, and were gracious from start to finish. It is reassuring to know that companies still exist that are willing to take on the odd small project, and who prioritize customer service. I'm sure their larger clients are similarly pleased.
