A carpenter they sent will be making the small patches. I'm relieved that they didn't have to go through the tiles in the shower or anyplace that would be expensive to patch. I shared approved Dept of Buildings plans and supervisor came out for a walk-through and verbally quoted me $20,000, saying as he left he'd write the detailed proposal based on his $20,000 verbal quote. However, when he emailed his proposal the price shot up 92.3% to $38,460.00! I emailed back to get justification, but never received a response to the exorbitant markup from the verbalized quote at my house. I wanted to know why Harris would not honor the $20,00 I was quoted during the site visit? I have been a repeat client of this business paying $1000s at each of their visits to do my plumbing work, and was told that because of this fact, I'd get a slight discount on my renovation proposal for the plumbing aspect. But a 92.3% markup from original quote of $20,000 is extortion, fraud and just bad business practice to say the very least! I found out also that they don't come out and tell you that they charge a discharge/service fee to come out, but $150/per hour of travel time is quietly--not disclosed to customer--added to their bills, yet never disclosed to you upfront. They were coming from the office location in Brownsville and I'm all the way down south on Avenue Z in Sheepshead Bay and they must take the side streets to get to me because commercial vehicles are not permitted on the Belt Parkway. I will stop being a repeat loyal customer to Harris Plumbing and Heating and will not refer them to anyone else ever again. I'll be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau also. They were not able to find that anything with wrong with it. I was charged a $200 service fee. I had called another plumber to get a second opinion and he was able to figure out what was wrong with it in minutes. I reached out to big Apple plumbing to see if they would be able to refund me due to them not being able to figure out the issue and me having to call someone else. They told me they were unable to give me a refund because 1. I did not call them back if the problem continued- I called someone else for a second opinion. 2. The receipt that I had from the other plumber did not have his business address on it. 3. They are also claiming that they had advised me to change the thermostat, which they never did.
