Just returned from my first visit to JM Beauty Bar where I was helped by a nice young lady named Chloe. Chloe was very friendly and professional and greeted me right away as I came through the door. She helped me select just the service I was looking for -- which was a pedicure, and was friendly and engaging during the service. We chatted about my upcoming trip to Vietnam, and she was kind enough to tell me what to check out and what to avoid during my stay. The pedicure was very nice, and the calf massage afterwards was heavenly. I was taken by how immaculate the salon was -- not a thing was out of place. Sometimes, nail salons have an off-putting odor to them, but not JM Beauty Bar. I thought the prices were fair, too. I will definitely be back! read more

New owners as of five months ago, and they are fantastic! I got a signature pedicure and a full set of acrylics, and they did a wonderful job. I have an expired Groupon for a pedicure. I understand it's expired but Groupon's policy is that the amount you pay never expires. It's like a gift certificate. They refused to honor that policy even when I showed it to the sweaty man behind the counter what it says in black and white. He told me to "go call Groupon". Terrible customer service. The place was empty on a Saturday afternoon during a holiday weekend too which is never a good sign. I expect they will be out of business soon. read more

This place has great products but the male hair dresser died my hair green brown. This is not a joke. I guess he had known to fo this! The apologized and tried to fix. I went back for two more hours only to go from green brown to blond brassy orange! I cannot believe it! Several months (at least 4) have passed and I sm just now back to a normal shade of brown with highlights through which is what I sent in for - basic stuff! Do not go here for your hair. I am still in shock from my experience today. I booked a dual process and hair cut. I had my head hand painted with three colors - going for an ombré on my dark hair. Covering my gray roots and lightening my caramel balyage. After 3.5 hours, I had to leave with a wet head. I got home to check my color (had one stylist color, another tone and cut, I paid over $250 (!!!!!) and went home. I got home and was shocked. SHOCKED not one but TWO people left me leave the way I looked. My hair is ORANGE, YELLOW and BLACK! I will be posting pictures of my before and after everywhere I can. I called the salon and they said I can come back in for a fix. I'm not even sure this is possible and secondly, I don't trust anyone who did this to me to begin with. Update: I spoke to the manager this morning. She offered to have me come in and fix but I asked for a refund and she was able to help me, even though it's not policy. She was kind, sympathetic, apologetic, and did all she could to help me - the best outcome I could ask for there. Now to find a fixer! read more

I love this place. It's nice and clean and big and the Don and Tuyn are great. Don gave me a shellac manicure. he did an excellent job and for the first time I had a shellac pedicure, it felt great and looks beautiful. The prices are good and the best part is they don't try to push other services on you that you don't want. That's one thing that drives me crazy about some salons. This place was 5 stars until they jacked the prices! My bestie and I loved this place and it was our go to spot for pedicures. However we are now looking for a new place. The prices have gone up to a ridiculous $60.00 for a pedicure. I was told that is their Covid pricing. I have not noticed Covid pricing at other salons. $60 is what I pay at high end spas like the Allison Inn. While they do a great job at GiGi's the price is way out of line for a strip mall nail salon. Sad, hope they adjust prices back to a reasonable amount so that we can feel good about going back there someday. read more

Had a great time in the seat with Ashley today! GIGI is great cause they do price points based on experience, so I was able to make a decision as a consumer and understood what level of expertise I would have before I walked in the door. Ashley was knowledgeable about techniques and upkeep, and I also appreciated that she asked for advice from more tenured stylists when needed. She and the team were receptive to the photo I showed and made sure everything was always to my liking. She also invited me to come back within the week if something wasn't looking right. GET MALLORY. Seriously, that girl is amazing. I went in to get my hair cut and colored. She was very attentive and listened to exactly what I wanted. Although my uncolored hair didn't turn out the color I was going for the first time around, she was patient and got it to the *PERFECT* color at no cost (which only makes sense.) I didnt feel awkward or rushed or like I was inconveniencing anyone, which was great. She really knows her stuff. If I was as rich as Oprah Winfrey, I would hire her as my personal stylist. The one thing I had a problem with was the person Mallory brought over to consult with about how to get my hair color to what I wanted. She didn't seem to know what good customer service was. She was very short with me and talked more to my stylist than to me when it came to what *I* wanted. When she asked to see a picture of what color I wanted, she had the gall to ask if it was the same picture I showed at my first appointment, as if I was changing everything and looking for a free session. Come on, lady. Seriously? The salon itself is very clean and accommodating for walk-ins and appointments (they will fit you in on your schedule) and is very chill overall. All the stylist are nice and friendly and give great feedback when asked. I've never been around such a supportive crowd. Expect to pay for this kind of quality service. This isn't a cheap-o salon. You get quality products and service for a reasonable price. Let me also add that their customer service is the best I've ever experienced at a salon; I'm very impressed. I made an appointment by phone explicitly stating that 1) since moving to the area from S. CA, I have not been able to find someone who can cut hair and 2) I need an all over color and highlights. Money seems to be an issue at this salon. I was informed that if I had an all over color and highlights, it would count as two coloring services and be about $105 starting and may be more, in addition to the haircut cost. I get to my appointment and waited 16 minutes because they were running over the time limit with the previous appointment. I was directed to the back of the salon, my stylist was not assigned to one of the larger more professional looking stations. I indicated that I wanted a haircut, a color and highlights. I left my hair natural to dry, to give the stylist a better indication of my hair type, and how it hangs. She stated she would get to what I wanted in a haircut after she coloured my hair, right now she wanted to discuss color. I stated that I wanted an all over color with highlights, and to get away from the reddish tint it had, go in the direction of brown, but not dark brown, and highlights. The woman pulled out swatches and asked me what color I was leaning towards. In S CA, it has been my experience that the stylist looks at my hair, plays with it, we talk about the cut first, once they establish about the cut, they usually recommend a color that works well with my skin tone. It's never been an issue before, and I stated that I was hoping that in this consultation, that she would recommend a color based on the first sentence in this paragraph - all over color, brown, not too dark, with highlights. She selected two reds, I stated that I had previously stated I didnt want red. I stated that I didnt understand what the issue was. I pointed out one of the other stylists hair who had brown with highlights, and the stylist stated oh, she has "_____", I said well it looks good. I was then told that I would have to have my hair bleached, and some other stuff, which was really complicated and she started to explain the technical side of it. I asked why I couldnt just get a color, over my old color, and highlights? She left and brought back a laminated chart and erasable crayon, put the chart in front of me and tried to hand me the crayon, and asked me what my PRICE POINT was. Really? It was degrading and creepy. I asked to consult with another stylist, I did, we seemed then to have an understanding of basic color with highlights. The original lady came back again, this time with a piece of paper, asking me to sign it. I inquired what it was for. She stated that she was explaining to me what she was going to do with my hair, and before she could start, she wanted my signature on the paper. I told her she didnt explain anything, that the other stylist had an idea of what I wanted, they both walked away together, she came back with her paper, and now she is asking me to agree to what she wants to do by signing a piece of paper, and I dont know if she knows what she's doing. I've never been asked by ANY professional salon to sign a paper. I essentially stated that I dont think that we were communicating too well and I would prefer to take my business elsewhere. The name Gigi also has Aveda in its name. I used to get my hair cut and colored at Aveda Hair Salon in Huntington Beach California and never ever had this type of poor and unknowledgeable service as I had today at the Gigi Aveda salon located at Washington Square. Despite the glossy surface, I would not recommend this establishment, the service is extremely poor, the staff doesnt listen to what you want and they dont know what they're doing. It's very shady. Requesting a color with highlights and a haircut seems very straightforward, so I couldnt really tell you what the problem was. read more

I've been going to this salon from the time it was in Washington square. I see Katy. I've jumped around from person to person, trying to find just the right person for cuts and color. I won't jump around anymore, now that I have Katy. She listens well, is willing to try new things with my hair, new colors, new cuts. In addition, she's funny and great to talk with and has wisdom beyond her years. They have a huge supply of different hair products and I've finally found some that I really like, again, thanks to Katy for suggesting that I try different things. They also have a terrific nail situation (though I will continue seeing my regular person in Garden Home). The shop is bright and sunny and they even serve wine! But then my mop of out of control thick wild hair got really hot + I wanted a new look so I called Amanda about 3 weeks later. What I really appreciate is she cuts my hair wet then blow dries it and cuts it again because my hair has dual personalty disorder. She really digs in. Sara is the best...after making the mistake of trying someone closer to home..I learned my lesson! I love that they are able to make same day appt's. Sara has the warmest smile. I had to tell her what happened..I felt bad, I cheated on her. She was so amazing about the whole thing..telling me she would do all she could to get my hair back into shape again..even if that meant cutting it shorter then I wanted. She worked with me the entire way to make sure it was what I wanted. She wanted me happy even though she was not the one that ruined my hair. She did an incredible job. I love it! I`d give -10 stars if I could. I went in to just get my roots touched up. I have an ombre that goes from dark brown to blonde. The hairdresser apparently did not know how to properly die my hair as to not get color onto the blonde. She sent me on my way with GREEN hair. I then approached the desk and told them that girl turned my hair green. So they said they'd fix it, but instead of grabbing someone that knows what they are doing, they had THE SAME GIRL try and fix it. She then bleached the crap outta my hair and I spent over 3 hours in the salon (on my only day off in over a month, I work 2 jobs) when it should've been just an hour. And to top it off they charged me full price for a messed up job! Later that week I had to cut my blonde all off because she had damaged it so much it was falling out. I went in for a facial, asking to speak to the esthetician regarding what type of facial to get. After filling out a short survey she took me into the room and started, it wasn't until half way through that i realized I hadn't been told what type of facial I was going to receive. I too find Stephanie's experience baffling. I have never see manager Taven be anything but calm and accommodating; I don't think we got the full story. Not only have I seen Taven handle difficult customers, I also have the pleasure of having him personally do my hair. He took my this box-dye nightmare of color I did to myself and gave me the lovely,natural looking shade I requested. I went from box-dye-red to a gorgeous blonde; I know red-to-blonde is the most challenging for stylists. I received a great cut from Nelly who was a great communicator and quickly understood exactly what type of cut I was looking for. Sometimes I have had trouble trusting stylists, because I've had too many experiences where I explained precisely what I wanted and had a stylist either completely ignore what I said (such as when a stylist thinks they know what would look better on me than me myself) or ones who don't take the time to fully understand what I've asked for. That wasn't the case with Nelly and I'm so pleased that she was my stylist right before an interview! read more

I made a yelp account specifically because of my disappointment in my service at Aveda. I went there to get my eyebrows waxed and the technician, Sarah, did a horrible job. I didn't realize how bad it was until I left the salon, otherwise I would not have tipped a single cent. I went in to get my eyebrows cleaned up and now they look like a mix between Spock, Pam Anderson, & Carly from the Bachelor. I could have done a better job at home, I specifically asked for them to be left natural and not be made thin. Additionally, while she managed to take away half of my eyebrow, she left stragglers and baby hairs in the middle (the ones you go there to remove). The only good thing about my service was the nice lady at the front desk. Sarah was nice, but I am too irritated about the job she did. I will never go to Aveda again, and they should make sure the employees who are doing the waxings are properly trained. Time to go buy a brow pencil. read more

I got booked for a appointment between 4:30-5:00 and showed up a little after 4:30. The manager (I'm assuming) loudly greeted me and said I couldn't be seen until 5:00, that was fine with me, but she continued to be extremely rude and condescending not to mention a LOUD mouth about the situation. I believe she was training someone at the front counter and "showing off" her so called position. I was almost tempted to leave just because of her attitude. She should not be in the position she is and have the power to talk to customers they way she does. Walking around with some hot pink tips in her hair thinking her Shit don't stink.... let me tell you it DOES! I never get services done here, so my review is based on buying product. I go here every year ( last 3 years) around Christmas time and buy Aveda products for my husbands exec. assistant at work. She loves Aveda and they always have a good selection of gift packs available at Christmas time. People have always been friendly and helpful to me. Stopped in here today to use a gift card that I got and bought some new product that I have never used before just to try since it wasn't going to cost me anything. YOu won't find a more professional and enjoyable salon than Gigi at Washington Square. I have had my hair done by Taven Canfield, the manager, for over five years. He's made every visit enjoyable, and within an hour of leaving someone ALWAYS compliments me on the color or the cut. I read with a sort of morbid fascination, the review by the person who had a terrible experience, and shook my head. This is not the way it is in this salon. I've seen people come in and ask for something different, and they are always welcomed and additional services are offered for free, to make sure they are completely satisfied. Let's face it - we women want miracles when it comes to our hair. That's why I keep going back to Taven - he performs miracles. So sorry lady, your review holds no credibility with me or anyone else who goes there. We know what a high quality place it is. Last night after much thought and many recommendations I went into Gigi salon at Washington square mall for a simple long layered haircut. I was placed with a man that upon meeting him had zero customer service. He came to the seating area called my name and then walked away leading to his station. When we got to the station I sat down and he awkwardly looked me. I then ASKED HIM if he would like to see the pictures of the cut I want both length and layers. He looked at me with a very disinterested look then said ok.. He then turned to me in the mirror after the discussion and placed a plastic shoulder thing on my shoulders with lines there were pointed, straight, and rounded, and told me to pick a line for my length... Thinking this was soo odd being the place I was at and the fact that he was suppose to be an advanced stylist.. And the fact that I had both just explain and showed him what I wanted!!! But wanting to work with him and get a good cut I complied. He then grabbed his scissors and with little thought or use of a comb just chopped away.. I was stunned watching in shock.. He then removed the plastic thing with lines and grabbed his razor.. Picked up my hair and started slicing handfuls of my once full and long hair off... Panicked I asked several times what was happening and if he was doing something else also.. He sad yes and continued to slice my hair all over the place! Grabbing it by the handful with a vent brush!! He then stopped and asked me to take look at the result .. In complete shock from what just happened I pulled my hair to side to feel it... It was Awful!! It was a short fuzzy mess!! And there were long pieces that clearly had been missed and short pieces that didn't belong.. Nothing like the pictures I had shown or the cut I asked for.. I truly looked like a lawn mower had just attacked my head... I was so nervous to come in the first place.. My heart sank and my eyes filed.. I could do nothing but sob.. I took the cape off and told him I couldn't finish.. Still crying And upset I walked to the front and asked to speak to a manager.. As they do she tried to assure me that it wasn't that bad but still agrees to not make me pay.. I sobbed all the way through the mall as I nearly ran to Regis and begged them to please fix it for me!! Luckily they were able to squeeze me into their last slot of the evening for an amazing cut fix!!! Hillrary took me back moments after her client left and was a full 45 mins earlier then my appointment was booked for! It was $20 less then Gigi but the customer service with the regis employees was out standing and after what I had just experienced their warm welcome was so calming!!! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THE GIGI SALON IN WASHINGTON SQUARE!! They are over priced for a very poorly trained stylist's with little interest in making your visit an enjoyable one!! I feel I would have been better taken care of at a school as oppose to receiving this kind of service from a HIGH END expensive Salon!! -Respectfully a very Disappointed customer :/ read more

Literally the worst customer service EVER. Called today to make an appointment and they told me 4:45. Then they call me back and tell me that won't work, can I come at 5:45. So I rearrange my afternoon, show up for my appointment and wait 15 minutes past my appointment time. No one comes to tell me what is going on or why they are running late. Some blonde woman is doing her grand daughters hair and screaming at her in the lobby about her iPad password...so bizarre and unprofessional. Finally I ask the receptionist how much longer. She says another 10 minutes or so will that work. No that won't work because my appointment was FIFTEEN MINUTES ago and my original appt was ONE HOUR ago. This place is staffed by idiots, it's filthy and the one person doing hair seemed to be "running long all day". Here's a tip, hire a new hair stylist who can run on time. The first cut was PERFECT! I mean the cut that I'd always wanted. So six weeks later I went back, and that's when the trouble started. I had the same stylist, told her that I wanted the same cut, described it again, she took like 1/4 inch off the bottom, that's it. The layers were still looking too long, the shaping around the face was overgrown. Not at all what I wanted. So I went back for a redo, told her again what I wanted. Oh my god. She gave me this mullet shaped rocker do, with these super sloppy layers, the shortest of which was over an inch above my ear. A month later and I still can't pull my hair back into a clip. I went to another stylist who took 3 inches off the back, and it looks much better but the sides are still an inch shorter than the back. It's awful all the way around. I've still got 6 months of growing out this caastrophe, and I am angry at Aveda and at that stylist every time I look in the mirror. read more
