09/24/25 - My front stair was in need of repair. My existing stair has a concrete base. The existing concrete stair was covered w/an epoxy finish w/aggregate embedded in the epoxy base. Over the years the base started to chip & deteriorate. I was suppose to have the original contractor come out & refinish the coat every year or every other year, unfortunately this company went out of business. I saw an ad for a different type of flooring w/a polyaspartic base coat which is suppose to be more durable than epoxy. After an estimate & deposit was made w/Comer & Cross came out started grinding the existing coat off. After an hour of grinding my stair they told me they couldn't do the job because a corner of the concrete was chipped and they don't do concrete work. WTF? After I went through this fiasco w/Comer & Cross. My buddy told me about JL Concrete Design in Addison. I called them and spoke to Julia who was very helpful & friendly. She sent Joe out to take a look at the stair the next day. After inspecting the stair he gave me a quote, scheduled a repair. It has only been three months since I had my patio area resurfaced by Joe with JL Concrete. Owner stated that the resurfacing would last around 8 years, including no cracks. Owner is now backtracking his original statements trying to avoid any responsibility. For $4,000 this is shoddy workmanship. Insanely overpriced for a resurfacing job (less than an inch of concrete) that didn't even last half a year. I DO NOT recommend this company. read more

Had them replace a stoop and front sidewalk and add a new step. Came out next day to complete the quote and had the install down within a couple weeks. Wasn't the cheapest quote I got, but all the work looks great and I'm very happy with what I paid for. Plus they were super easy to work with: quote and contract were both electronic (email and text) and they accepted Zelle for payment. read more

JL CONCRETE DESIGN does not take responsibility for their product, process or workmanship!! In Fall 2017, I paid them $9800 to lay a stamped patio, sidewalk and do an overlay on my front stoop. It was warranted for 2 years. In March 2020 (2 1/2 years since installation), the front stoop overlay started chipping off in a place where there is no traffic or wear and tear. In addition, our stamped concrete patio started pitting in 10 random places. Now we really have a problem as the pits will allow moisture in, freeze and thaw and create a disaster. We know that we need to seal the patio after 2-3 years of installation and we were getting ready to do just that, but are now afraid that when we power wash the unstable patio and stoop to prepare for sealer, it will only make the pitting and chipping worse. I have been in communication with JL Concrete Design over the past month regarding these new issues. They claim that the faulty product is simply "normal wear and tear" and that they cannot control what happens to concrete. Again and again, they blame the Midwest weather, the uncertainty of concrete, etc. When they quoted my job, they never mentioned that my patio, sidewalk and front stoop would look like crap in a mere 2 1/2 years!! I really regret doing the concrete jobs and regret hiring JL Concrete Design to do it. Their only offer was to come out and power wash and seal the patio and sidewalk and do a temporary touch up on the stoop for $650........what???!!! My advice............select a non-concrete material and do not hire JL Concrete to do any job or risk major frustration and disappointment! read more

Contacted several Concrete Contractors to look at our stamped concrete patio. JL Concrete Design was 1 of the few who not only responded but came out to assess the damage and give a quote. Joe was extremely personable and identified several concerns with the stamping and sealing of the original patio. We discussed resurfacing and replacing. Ultimately we decided to replace our patio as we wanted something that would last. JL Concrete Design was communicative throughout the process from requesting a quote to scheduling the job. The crew did a phenomenal job and were extremely respectful of our property. I cannot wait to spend time hanging out on our new patio that I know was done correctly and will last! read more

JL Concrete Designs advertises in our local paper, and I loved the idea of hiring a local business. However, they are very disorganized and unprofessional. I set up an appointment with them for an estimate, and they cancelled the day before and offered to reschedule later in the week, but I was not available. They did not offer any alternative times. I reached out again to reschedule. They gave me an hour-time slot on a Friday morning at 11 a.m. When they failed to show, I called and they offered to come out at 3 p.m. When, I stated I was unavailable, they offered to come out, take a look, and text me an estimate. Never came out, never texted me an estimate. They may do nice concrete work, if you can get them to honor their appointments. I, for one, would never hire them based on their inconsiderate and disorganized business practices. read more

I would not recommend them or use them again. They will tell you that most of the things that go wrong on the project are outside of their control such as having a crack in the concrete just a few days after installation. That seems to be a pattern reading the other negative comments from other folks. Very hard to work with and very unprofessional. read more

Just spoke to Joe of JL concrete, what a joke. They poured my front walk and replaced sections of my driveway last September. They warranty it for 2 years, well let me tell you they have a way around that. My concrete has black spots all over it, it looks horrible. So they call and tell me their work is warrantied but not the concrete. Ozinga poured it so they are not responsible for the discoloration, maybe it will go away was the answer I got. So please save your money and call someone else. If I could give them minus stars I would. read more

I had the pleasure of working with Julia and Joe and they did an awesome job repairing, restoring, and staining my concrete patio, basically bringing it back to life. From my initial conversation with Julia, she was able to stop by the next day to review my project, as a tandem they worked with me throughout the entire process from start to finish, provided me with well thought out recommendations, and were extremely helpful in the product and color selection process, with Joe even making an additional trip or two to my house with sample colors to make sure everything was just right, all for a very reasonable price. They were even able to begin my project earlier than anticipated.
