Came upon this quaint, retro, old school diner that should be frozen in time when neighbors and communities come together and share a hearty meal to start their day. You can tell that regulars frequent here, and enjoy the classic comforts of Americana breakfast and lunch fare. Coffee was not very hot, and eggs were a bit crispier than I hoped, but this brother and sister duo that runs the joint knows how to serve a meal with the freshest ingredients, and fluffiest pancakes. Must make mention that the potatoes are freshly cut, never frozen, and the breakfast sausage patties are made by hand, you can tell that love and effort were put into them. I've lived near JK's for well over 30 years. It's unfortunate to say, I can count on one hand how many times I've been here. It is not because the food is not good. I love BREAKFAST! I tend to prefer to make my own. I've never experienced bad service. The ambiance is family friendly and you can tell most customers are regulars. The breakfast potatoes (hash browns) are my fave. Today I was adventurous and tried the Country Fried Steak. Really good choice, it has a lemon flavor on the gravy which was good. I'm a regular on Sundays but tried it Saturday Usually good service but today the male waiter was especially helpful. Coffee was never empty, he was asking before I had too. Even better than last time. When you go there often enough you are recognized and greatest as family. Food is always good. The owner is always checking to make sure you are satisfied. Went here Sunday June 20, 2021. This was a pick up order. I waited patiently for my order in line. I realize it was Father's Day and the store would be busy. When it was my turn to pay, the owner ringed up the order. I had to ask how much it was. After I paid for the item, I placed my wallet in my purse and zipped it up. The owner kept pushing ny order closer to me. It only takes a few seconds for a person to gather their items before leaving. There is no need to be pushy and rude. I observed the owner speaking to everyone he recognized that entered the store. You should give everyone that steps in your place of business the same hospitality. Not a bad place at all! Food selections are pretty good and the service (the times I have been there) has been extremley good! Something about the fountain drinks seems good, too. The coke at this place seemed to taste better than at most other restaurants. Maybe it was all in my head or maybe there is just something a bit better about the drinks here. Pancakes are also HUGE, you will barely be able to finish all 3 of them. My only complaint would be there seem to be no tables at this place, it is all booths. I was then told that the prices had changed I asked for menu I was told that it was still not on the menu that was being given out. Came with my parents, not my usual spot. The hot ham sandwich is really solid. My Dad comes here just for that, ham off the bone loaded up with gravy, always good. The breakfast here pretty typical nothing stands out and the soups are fairly average. They do have some weird extra's, like a bread bowl (crackers, bread, breadsticks) is a dollar extra. They also charge extra from other things like cheese in an omelet. While it's not unheard of it's just strange. The service is fine and place looks like how you'd expect. read more

I am always searching for a great diner that serves breakfast all day long. JK's dinner is a diner in Berkley that has not lost its personal touch. Everything is made fresh, is seasoned well and the portions are more than generous. I usually order take out on Saturday mornings for my family and always need a nap after breakfast. Expensive menu. I went for breakfast. Ordered a mushroom omlette. This was the first place I have been that charges extra for cheese in an omlette. I had coffee, omlette which came with toast or pancake and hash browns. Total bill 11.55. For the atmosphere of this little local eatery, the meal should be priced lower. 9.00 range. New waitress's afraid to come to your table when confronted about no corn beef hash, she said its mixed with the potatoes. Definitely one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. It was cheap, dirty, and rude. The two waitresses in the place didn't need any help being rude and bitchy but it seems the manager/owner thought he should help by putting the tension between them all out in the open for the hole restaurant to feel and hear. Well, we read the yelp in the parking lot and it sounded promising so in we went. We were also seeking a place that wasn't too noisy and not a corporate breakfast. The waitress was nice and when the cream I put in my coffee came up in chunks-she replaced it cheerfully. My companion ordered a short stack. Nothing short about these two gigantic pancakes drooping over the edge of his plate. I had a Denver Omelet-it had a strange taste-kinda like something they'd cleaned the grill with. JKs may not seem like much, but it is a such a gem. As a local I've been coming here since I was born. Everything is great, however if you ever come across this place on a Wednesday or a Sunday you must have the chicken and rice soup. They only serve it those two days and it's amazing. Went to JK's on a Sunday morning, to find a small restaurant atmosphere with very lackluster interior decor. Spattered food on the walls and dust covered lighting. While being seated, the host just slapped the menus down and barely stopped to ensure our seating was satisfactory. Our food was very bland for I feel that they have fallen into the false safety net that is canned this and premixed that. Our order was incorrect as well. Funny side note, when we explained how we like lots of creamer, she took our dish of creamers and returned with less than we started. OK! Not every thing that we ordered came.
