The second person not only did a poor job but had an uncomfortable method of straddling my head and rubbing her thighs on against my face as she worked my back from my head down. Deeply Disappointing and Racist Experience Today, my niece, my friend, and I spent the afternoon in Chinatown. We stopped by Tianxiang to see the Chinese doctor for some herbs, grabbed a few plants, and enjoyed some slippery shrimp from Yangzhou. Afterward, my friend--who's been under a lot of stress--suggested we get massages. We found JJ's Massage and decided to give it a try. Before going, we called to ask if they took credit cards since many similar places only take cash. They said yes. When we arrived, we were greeted politely and taken to our rooms--my niece and I shared one, and my friend was in another. But here's where everything went wrong. After we had disrobed and were lying down, the lady came back and asked me to pay. I was confused because, at every other massage establishment I've been to, payment is handled before or after, never while you're half undressed. She insisted, so I had to turn on my flashlight in the dark room, find my card, and hand it over. Then, while I was still disrobed, a man entered the room asking if the card should be charged for two people or three. This was extremely inappropriate and uncomfortable. If this was supposedly their policy, it should have been explained before we undressed--not after. I couldn't relax for the rest of the massage. I know for a fact that their standard policy isn't to demand payment mid-session. I truly believe the only reason they did this was because we were Black. Afterward, when I shared my concern, the man denied any wrongdoing and claimed it was "the policy for everyone." Then he pulled out a handwritten note that said "20% tip mandatory." I had already planned to tip, but the attempt to pressure and assume that we wouldn't was insulting. Even my niece, who is younger, asked me afterward, "Are these people racist?"--and I had to tell her yes. As an educator of over 20 years, I teach students of all backgrounds equally, and I cannot stand to see discrimination modeled in front of a young person who looks up to me. This experience left us disappointed, uncomfortable, and hurt. My friend later told me she also wanted to leave mid-massage but stayed because she thought I wanted to stay. None of us enjoyed it. If you're in Chinatown looking to relax after exploring, skip this place. Save your money, your peace, and your dignity. She also walked a guy to the bathroom while she left my curtain open. My last straw was when she yelled over my face (I was face up) to say something to a worker. A full conversation over my face. They also had people come in the front talking loudly which isn't their fault but at previous massages at different places I've literally had workers say "hey someone is in here for a massage, please keep it down." But nope, not at this place. How is that soothing? 2. Because of the lack of any kind of care and professionalism I only tipped $10. Which is pretty nice considering my massage was interrupted 4 times. I also already paid $5 more than the advertised price before my massage. And she wanted $20 more. So in total a $35 tip. On a $60 massage. I've never been made to pay before receiving a service. They also wanted a tip BEFORE. I'm so glad I said no because this massage was ass. I have lived next door to this business for over two years, and the first time I went, I had a female masseuse and was not impressed. It wasn't bad, but I needed someone stronger. The woman who massaged me was funny and incredibly kind, so I couldn't find it in me to complain. It has been over a year since I went, and today I went in and asked for a male masseuse. I have learned to be better at making my needs clear to other Chinese folks. I was surprised when the person who elected to massage me was the owner, Kevin. Kevin was incredibly polite. He got to work and didn't say much. I pointed out to him that I was having a lot of pain in my left glute. Suddenly he shifted his approach and WENT TO TOWN. He left no part of my body (sans genitalia) untouched. Every possible muscle group that he could manipulate, he did. My IT band, my glutes, my scapulae, even muscles that were tender and sore like my upper chest were handled, stretched, kneaded, and massaged into submission. Muscles in my arms, my hands, my legs, my joints, the tendons and ligaments, my temples, my scalp... You get the point. He found all of the pain, and I didn't have to say anything else. American masseuses don't typically do all of that, but traditional Chinese massage targets the whole body in unconventional areas, like in between joints. I have been receiving massages most of my adult life, and I am very picky and enjoy deep tissue massage. I used to dance professionally, and I'm used to my body feeling like a train wreck. I wish I found Kevin many years ago. He has been doing this professionally for ten years and it shows. While confident in Chinese (mainland/Beijing-ish accent), Kevin is clearly a bit shy and nervous when it comes to speaking English. His anxiety comes out in his speech, but his smile and the warmth he communicates are both genuine. Most Chinese places are not this warm and personable. For me, this place is a dream come true. A friend and I walked in for 2, $40, 1 hour Foot Massages, they were busy so a woman seeming to be management and spoke English well, walked us over to another location 2 blocks away. I paid this manager woman w a $100 bill asking if she could break it, she said yes yet did not get my $20 in change, but I didn't realize until halfway through the massage She left the location we were, and at the end, we attempted to explain that we had prepaid and partly pre-tipped our lovely therapists, they called the woman who insisted she gave me the change of $20. Lies. If you're unfamiliar with these walk-in places, they do decent bodywork (but you do get what you get for) and tips are imperative for the guarantee of the workers income. In this case she absconded with an extra $20 instead of it going to the employees. Unscrupulous. $20 wont break me, and I coughed up more cash for a tip; but buyer beware! Lady- give the employees the extra $20 please! BTW we get these massages all the time, all over the country and these were very good in comparison to all that we've had, but I have never run into somebody so blatantly stealing our money. read more

PHENOMENAL massage. They have options for clothes on or off. My husband and I got a private room for a couples massage for an hour. $50 a person. Such a good price. They did only take cash so that was a bummer. But we were able to Zelle for a $5 fee. It's a little hole in the wall place but they were able to get us in quickly. It was clean and one of the best massages I've had. I will say it was the most vulnerable massage I've had but it didn't bother me. If that stresses you out, might not be the spot for you. I don't care if you get massaged in a community room, with your clothes on. These people know how to massage! With the way the tables are arranged, these little Asian ladies can put their body weight into it, and exert enough pressure. You pay $20 for an hour long massage! They said "foot" but, they start off with your head and a neck, and get your back, arms, and legs after, too! They have a private room setup as well (for couples, and overflow?). Anyway, great spot. Alittle disappointed they have doubled the price it seems over a year. Used to make the trip to come here at the end of a week but now the price point isn't the same as what you're getting. They are good but the price change isn't sitting well. We came after not visiting for a couple months and to see the price change. It was a value before they doubled the price now it's not really worth it. I get it priced have to go up but doubling in a year isn't ideal. I tried to give so many benefits of the doubt today just to enjoy my massage and give credit because business make the world go around and since I am one, I know every moment won't be golden. But this establishment never has to worry about me or my circle of friends, family, or online friends again. Originally my friend and I were going to a massage place we were excited about trying out in Chinatown on spring street. We got there and unfortunately they had all rooms occupied. The sweet lady in the front was nice enough to tell us there was a sister property / another store owned by the same people just minutes away and the shuttle would come get us to ensure we get there. We thought this was amazing and above and beyond, also a great marketing technique and showed they cared. There was someone who came to get us, but we walked to the other establishment, no big deal because the walk was not far at all. We just were expecting something else. Once we get to the location, the same gentlemen blessed us with a double room, we thought it was weird but we are friends and if that was all they had available we were all about it! After getting undressed, the same gentlemen rolls his sleeves up and starts massaging my friend. He did tell me wait 5 min, so I was just going to relax until his partner showed up. Between when we got there and went for the massage, no one asked what area we wanted them to concentrate on, if anything hurt, any medical issues, if we preferred male or female or anything. This was a red flag, but again... we just went with the wind and tried to give it the benefit of the doubt. 12 mins go by and I still do not have a second massage therapist in the room. Before I can say anything my friend, stops her massage therapist and requests a female because she is uncomfortable and wondering why if I was there first why didn't he start on me. Also wondered why he only focused on lower butt and places that were not usually seen. The gentlemen is a little salty because my friend requested a female, but both of us are females and then to have the same guy with his rushing energy walk to get us from the other shop and roll up his sleeves to give a massage was uncomfortable enough. My friend was able to get a massage therapist that was a female who just got to the shop, I on the other hand got the male because he was the only person available. This sucked because had we known we both couldn't get seen at the same time, we would have waited, put in an appointment or went elsewhere. During my massage this man kept pulling down my underwear and exposing my body even though I kept pulling them back up. I mentioned it, and he acted as if he didn't understand me fully, so maybe he didn't, but visual communication is universal. He always found a way to touch my butt which was very uncomfortable due to the way he touched it different from my back. I stopped him and asked him to focus on my back, he then rubbed my shoulders about 3 times with his elbow and went back to my butt. Annoyed at this point, and still trying to keep my composure because I am not the only one in the room and I did not want to disturb my friend. The gentlemen then gets up to check someone out , answer questions, book an appointment and answer the phone during my massage. I NEVER HAD A RELAXING MOMENT, he also stopped mid back and went to change the music back to titanic theme song for the 3rd time. By now I'm irate, energy is unbalanced, guard is up, feeling unvalued. He comes back to the room and starts having a conversation whispering to the masseuse next to him that is massaging my friend. One or two comments, and a laugh is all good, we are all humans and creatures of emotion and communication, but gosh... they started speaking like they were just washing cars or cooking in the kitchen. So I asked what did he say, and he said nothing " relax ... everything fine". After about 3 min, he walks out and goes back to the front and I'm just like did he really just go answer another customer in the front like I'm not one who just paid for an hr massage that never got into the rhythm of the massage in the first place. He sure did! So when he comes back he asks me to turn over, and being that my massage was never even done on my calf muscles or anywhere else besides my butt or shoulder, I refuse and tell him it's ok, I'll go pay, but I would like to stop. He looks confused and the massage therapist that is helping my friend comes over to tell me he is the boss, as if that was going to make me change my mind, if anything I was HIGHLY disappointed in him and the establishment he was running and could not believe that. I had always forgot to leave a review but now with all my spare time during quarantine, it's time I share Chinatowns best kept secret with the world. My boyfriend and i frequent here often and each time we go, we are greeted by the boss man. He's great, such a character but truly awesome. Majority of the masseuses are great. Sometimes the massage is hit or miss but 99% of the time, they're great. Summer and the only guy masseuse are my personal fav but i've had others that were awesome too, i just forgot their names. It's a really clean place and they have another location down the block which is even more immaculate. The face massages towards the end of the massage feel so nice as well as the hot rag they place on you. i only wish it would stay hot, sometimes the rag gets cold too fast. At the end, they offer water and some cute candies. They're very accommodating and always fit us in even if we come by a little before closing. The bathroom is very clean as well and you can tell they really take pride in their establishment and cleanliness-- i always see them washing and drying the towel when i go to the restroom. The walls are thin so sometimes you can hear others cough but its never super packed all at once so that shouldn't be a common issue. For starters my friend and I went to JJs Massage 2 for full body massages and the receptionist said they were fully booked.Said they have another location up the street, her manager will come escort us there. If my friend is more heavy set then I am why did you start small little me 1st ? And aren't you the manager?! .. I was taken into a small clean room what a nice massage table awaited. The massage began pr mostly and she filled all the time.
