She had such a gentle presence yet surprising strength when it was needed. Although I've had massages that were more consistent in pressure, I was very pleased overall -- next time I'll probably request a harder, more even pressure throughout. Even so, she made me feel beyond comfortable the entire time. The room was crisp, clean, and beautifully set up with a peaceful, curated vibe that truly felt like a mini getaway. I recently moved to Highland Park, so I'm branching out to various nearby neighborhoods, such as Chinatown. I tried another massage place about 4 months ago (see my previous review), but I felt adventurous, so here we go. I called ahead to schedule my appointment. I was looking for a basic massage for an hour. The other place had a combo foot and body massage. This place (Panda) was slightly different. They had a price list of various options-- I chose the one that was $50 (with free hot stones). READ the entire list before you enter this place-- you'll see why later. As they escort me to my room, they pass a room with bars coming from the ceiling. They seemed to be cleaning and disinfecting from a prior use. They asked if I wanted someone to walk on my back. I may be aging myself, but I had an instant flashback of George Jefferson walking on Mr. Bentley's back. Anyway, I digress. The 'stepping back' procedure was decent, although a bit painful. I need to get massages more often! I toughed it out, mostly while letting out an occasional grunt or two. Next came the hot stones, which were interesting and... hot (but not too hot). Here's where things took a slight turn... They 'suggested' cupping. I asked about pricing and they did not respond directly. I got the cupping procedure, because... I heard it helps with circulation, relieves muscle tension and improves/repairs blood and cells. And it was an adventure! Needless to say, it was hotter than the stones and it felt like a slow burn (for 10 minutes). The next day, I had 12-15 burn circles on my back! I looked like I might have been abducted by other planetary life forms, but I was focused on the results. Again, I digress.. The issue was that I only brought $60 cash. I planned to tip $10 for my $50 massage (20% seemed fair). I did not appreciate that they did not disclose that the cupping costs $20 more while they suggested it, but I could have said no. When I went to pay, they pressed me for a tip. I almost did not want to tip after the 'bait and switch' approach, but I decided to give my original $10 and pay the additional $20. The grand total was $80- actually $82- because they charged a fee for using my debit card. It seemed shady, but I was ready to leave. The Grand Total was $82, but as I was paying, the gentleman with the card reader made a comment that my tip was not enough. I told him he needed to be up front with charges and add ons, but he didn't not seem interested. I left, vowing to write this review that you just read. I doubt I will return here. Found this place through a post on Reddit and was not disappointed. I'm saving this as my forever go-to spot. My husband and I booked 90min for $80 massages--which is an insanely good price--so I was expecting mediocre care... instead the massage was more effective than massages I've paid $300 for in the past. Worth every damn penny. I was massaged by Annie and I'm honestly convinced that her thumbs are made of rock because wow she went hard for the entire time. I came in unable to close my jaw and in serious pain from some nerve thing that happened a few weeks ago and left able to close my jaw perfectly. I'm stunned. And im equally stunned that she kept such intense pressure for an entire 90min straight. (It really hurt... but the good kind.) We also got the $40 "Chinese Herbs, formula plaster" add on and at first I didn't think it was doing much but it seriously is. (It's this unsexy medicine packet they tape to whichever part of you is sorest, not a body wrap, but it's great.) This is the first deep tissue massage I've gotten where I haven't been sore and borderline headachy after, so whatever's in the "plaster" is doing wonders. I seriously recommend it if you can afford it. If not, just do yourself a favor and get the 90minue massage; it's so worth it. If you live in LA and you frequently find yourself looking for a massage that actually deals with deep tissue stress on a budget, you should check this spot out. If you like all the bells and whistles of a spa, this isn't it. George is the best kept secret of Chinatown. Don't judge the place by the outside. He's fixed me many times when in pain and western medicine failed me. He is strong and knows all the right pressure points and body structure to fix you up. Tip him well. He is excellent. Update- I came back recently and saw Michael. By accident. Only because I forgot George's name and mistake him as "Michael". I'm so bad with names. My fault. So Sorry George. Now I know. Anyways, this establishment is very good. I have been coming here since 2020, I never had an issue before i actually enjoy it until my last 2 visits. What had me hooked was one of the employees (Lynn) she use to work there & I haven't seen her since. But this last visit, they made me pay before the massage, which is okay it was close to closing. They had me get stuck with the receptionist or manager to do my massage, I didn't mind it first but I had to keep telling him he was way to rough, I had to keep flinching because it was uncomfortable pain. The guy did not know what he was doing what so ever. Every other masseuse I've had at least left me feeling more at ease . I didn't not like this last experience what so ever. Went here fall of 2022, forgot how much I paid but it was for roughly 30 mins. Facility is dark and the floors are a little creeky. A older man greeted me and my masseuse was an older woman in her late 50's early 60's. Undressed and massage was on the firmer side (pressure wise) not bad or anything. The facility I believe had rails (can't remember) but overall not too bad, but like I said pressure is on the firmer side of things. They do bug you for a tip, even if you intend to give one. MICHAEL IS THE BEST!!!! My mom has been going to Michael for years. I has some stiffness in my neck it was extremely painful I wasn't able to move left and right without pain. I went to the doctors got X-rays they couldn't find out the problem they referred me to physical therapy and it didn't do anything. The medication they kept pushing wasn't working either. All it took as ONE VSIT to this place to relief me of my plan. Michael did a fully body massage for 60 minutes but focused mainly on my neck as I requested. He knew exactly what pressure points to hit and where are my knots were, the way he massages is definitely different from your typical two thumb action. He performed hot stone therapy to increase blood circulation. He also did cupping therapy which I highly recommend. In one hour Micheal healed my neck problems I'm so grateful to him and this company. I will definitely be coming back and you cannot beat these prices! They were able to accommodate me the same day! i have been here a couple times(4 times to be exact) and each time there is a 50% chance the massage might be good and 50% chance it's bad. This last experiment 2/11 was the last time we will be going. I went with my friend (f25) to get massages . We got the 60 min (head back feet) massage. We had called ahead of time to make sure they were available and when we got there the owner said they had one guy and one woman. As two woman going it would have been nice to have that detail disclosed beforehand. I would have still gotten the treatment but a warning or heads up would have been appreciated especially when we had called hours before. For the massage itself, although we both got the same package we got different experiences. My masseuse never touched my feet even though my package included feet massage. He was rough even afterI had said that it was a little too hard & when i asked them to go softer again they laughed. My friends massage also wasn't the best she was very superficial with the massage and gave a "lazy massage".My friends BARE CHEST was uncovered during the massage while her stomach was rubbed which had never been happened before. she wasn't comfortable with being exposed that way plus it was cold. Now for the PAYING PART! I tip everywhere i go, from coffee shops to small businesses, (we're 25 ofc we tip everytime). Although we were both thankful for the massage we weren't entirely satisfied .But when we went to the owner to pay he asked for cash which we didn't have, and was visibly upset when we said we would pay using card. Then he proceeded to say "tip cash?" & again we said we would tip in the card. When we said $10 he said "$10 each?" and we said no "5 & 5" to which he said. "No.More." I was going to get the 20$ body massage but I saw for $10 more, they have a 70 minute deep tissue, foot arm shoulder back head massage with hot stones. What a steal this is! Amazing price and amazing service. My husband and I got this massage and it was amazing. Honestly I came in because the name was panda and I yelped it on the way while I was sightseeing. I got Tony and he gave me an amazing massage. He has very strong hands and he was very attentive to whether I was ok with the amount of pain I was receiving. I left this massage place very happy. I just walked in and luckily they took me because some people booked appointments and didn't even have the decency to call in to cancel. That is terrible, people work hard to make money. Please be more considerate because these people do a great job. Next time I visit Chinatown on the west coast, I will definitely drop by again because now I feel rejuvenated. My husband is equally as pleased as I am, and he didn't even know he had knots in certain places. These are good people, and I am so thankful for our couple massage. I hesitate to write this review but it should be known... This place is terrible to get a massage at. The price seemed so great that we were willing to overlook obvious red flags. We called ahead to book an appointment for 2 people. When we showed up, we had to wait 15 minutes - ok no problem. During that time we used the restroom which was DISGUSTING. we were shown to our "beds". We disrobed and waited. And waited. And waited. 10minutes later someone came in, put our feet in a hot liquid and left. 10 minutes later we received a 5 minute massage to myself, and a 5 minute massage to my partner and then the person left. We waited 30minuted for someone to return. During this time, they were noisily accepting more massages (but were clearly understaffed). The person returned and at that point, we were both getting up to leave. They seemed shocked. We had paid for TWO massages (from 2 masseuse) for a duration of 1 hour -- because we were 2 people. We were receiving 5minute increments of massage from 1 masseuse... with a 30minute wait in between our 5minute massage. We told them we would not be paying. He tried to argue with us and say we needed to nearly the entire AMOUNT!! Do yourself a favor and pay $5 more for a MUCH cleaner, classier, and better quality massage by going someplace other than here. read more

So today I decided to go in again because I had a weekend of biking and kayaking. A got another female masseuse and expected my massage to be as good as the first. It was not. The first thing I noticed was that she was using a lot of lotion and oil. Then she had gotten to my legs and was pinching me, which hurt and I was not used to that. I assumed she might be new. There were some good points with her elbows on my back and I tried hard to just enjoy myself. But she then started pinching my arms and then my neck (which is where my tension is) and it did not feel good at all. When we got to the hot stones they were way too hot... not a great way to end it. The massage itself was a only $35, which I think is an incredible deal. Although it wasn't the greatest massage this evening, I still tipped $7 in cash, which is 20%. The part that makes me want to give one star was the masseuse asking for more money! I really don't think she deserved it and I felt very awkward when I was trying to leave. Even the person that charged me said something about $10. It was disappointing... and it put me in a bad mood. I've been here a few times and waited to give a proper review after having a few different people give me a massage. They are all pretty good, but Tia was a favorite one so far. She was very thorough and she also quite funny. One thing I wasn't happy with was that my curtain was slightly open for a little bit. And I saw the guy sitting at the desk which made me uncomfortable. Considering I wasn't fully dressed, but covered, I however did not feel secure. But I do understand we make mistakes and she could've been focused on working on me so she caught it late. Also, any other day for parking is ok.
