Hampstead is sooooooooooo fortunate. JJ Hoffman's moved from Finksburg to our town about 2 years ago now. The ice cream is superb. Their chocolate malted shakes have no equal anywhere I've traveled. The service, usually by 3-4 "young folks", is always welcoming, attentive and correct. Yes, the ice cream is made in the shop. There are sugar free selections. The ice cream cakes easily beat ALL those chain stores. There are even "pet cups" and you'll see 4-legged friends are appreciated. JJ Hoffman's is open all year and worth the trip even when it's cold. I can't say enough good things about this local business. My family really enjoys the ice cream and it's always visited whenever anyone is in town. read more

JJ Hoffman's is a solid ice cream place. I've been going there ever since they started in Finksburg. They have a great selection of flavors and they always have great service. The only reason why they don't get 5 stars is because of the chocolate chip cookie dough. This has been a issue for years, there is never any cookie dough in the ice cream (this happened again this evening). If they can fix their cookie dough, they will earn the extra star! read more

What a great place. Love the hometown local businesses - their wall is decorated with local's pet pictures. It's great fun to see all the dogs, cats, horses and turtles. Usually a new one every time or so we go. And we go there all the time - I have one of their milkshake cards - Buy 11 or 12 get 1 free. And it's easy to get up to a dozen. We've always got an ice cream pie in our freezer - try the strawberry cheesecake ice cream pie. Chocolate peanut butter is good too. Not sure what the reviewer is talking about with the taste/run of the mill, blah blah. We love it! This place also isn't pricey - they have email deals all the time anyway. Pies are $8, custom made pies and cakes aren't too much more. Milkshakes can be made out of any of their delicious homemade flavors and I wouldn't buy so many if they were expensive. We've been getting Hoffman's ice cream since 1976, and followed Jeff when he established J.J.Hoffman's in Finksburg and now Hampstead because of his warmth to his customers as if all are good friends. We appreciate the quality of his ice cream as well, but the small town local business feel makes J. J. Hoffman's unique. Additionally, I appreciate that J.J.'s supports Project Feeding Kids, providing meals to underprivileged kids in our community through their business services. That's a business worth supporting! This was our first time here and my daughter lives nearby so when we come to visit her and the grand kids we will be making Hoffman's a must go to place for desert. We've ordered an ice cream cake (very reasonably priced) for my child's birthday party and the way it was decorated exceeded my expectations. The cake tasted great too!
