AMAZING!!!! The Kadoma is delish for an appetizer. It's this crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside rice patty that is layered with thin sliced jalapeño, avocado and tuna!!! It's almost too pretty to eat but once you have that first bite you will definitely go back and finish it up! I also have a bubblegum Rall it was fabulous as well! From what I hear you can't go wrong at this particular sushi spot. I was surprised that the seafood was so fresh even though they are at least for five hours from the coast! read more

By far the overall best restaurant in Oxford. The design is extremely fresh and inviting. I'm not a fan of techno music but their mix transcends the guests to locales like LA, Miami or DUMBO. The menu is brief but each offering is beautifully crafted with a broad range of authentic Japanese ingredients. The River Rock Kobe is standard setting for any city but unbelievable for Oxford. I ate at Nobu Malibu last month and this certainly stands up to Nobu. Tonight we spent $30/person...Nobu was $250/person. I was actually still hungry when we left Nobu but not tonight. It's a travesty that they ruin an award winning aesthetic with big screen televisions. Not only do they upstage the food they ruin the ambient lighting. However, the food and service are good enough that we will go back and request seating out of the site line of the sports bar element. read more

Jinsei is easily one of the best restaurants in Oxford and you're definitely going to pay premium prices for it. Fresh fish is flown in and you won't find any imitation crab here. You will not find sushi quite like this anywhere else in Oxford let alone Mississippi. Selections are all unique and a fresh take from the traditional items normally found at regular restaurants. The Kadoma Tuna and Tempura Green Beans are appetizers that should not be missed and the Red Dragon roll is wonderful and fresh dish for dinner. The restaurant is designed to be a place where a group orders a bunch of different things and everyone shares... a good route to try because you will want to try everything. Also, the cocktail menu is spectacular and all of the drinks are made to perfection. They have homemade sweet and sour mix and the juleps are all wonderful as are the sake-ritas. Keep in mind Mojito Mondays and Wing Wednesdays (I've never had the wings but they are pretty great from what I've heard). Beware: once you eat this sushi all other Japanese restaurants will not be good anymore. read more

No complaints about my awesome experience at Jinsei! Had a fabulous strawberry mojito and randomly a really good margarita too! We got the grilled edamame (first time I had it like that and I loved it!!) we also got the Kadoma Tuna (first item under Cold Plates!) as an appetizer. We got an assortment of rolls (I particularly liked the Wolfe roll) and it was all tasty and very fresh. Definitely a nice atmosphere with an upscale patio. Great sushi and unique "date night" atmosphere. Don't get me wrong-not fancy or romantic but modern and very clean. There is an outdoor deck with overhead twinkle lights if you want a laid back feel. Right down the street from Ole Miss and I'm a strip mall but the whole front has been covered with horizontal weathered boards giving it a dressier feel. Casual attire is fine. Some unique sushi offerings and a full bar. A little bit more than average but for fresh seafood, it is worth it. read more

This is the best sushi restaurant in Oxford. That being said, I'm a vegetarian, and can only speak on behalf of their vegetarian rolls and veggie tempura. All of which are so tasty. Not only do they serve run of the mill cucumber and avocado rolls, but they also have specialty rolls that are vegetarian. Other sushi places in Oxford don't really have that many vegetarian options, so it's nice that they do. I could also safely say that their tempura green beans are addictive, so eat at your own risk. I'm only taking a star off because the service is not that great. The wait staff really isn't that attentitive, but at least the food is good. read more

Jinsei is the place to go if you're looking for upscale dining in Oxford that's different from the classic steak house menu. The atmosphere is trendy yet comfortable, and although it's off the square I find that to be refreshing (easy parking, for one). They do delicious cocktails including special Mojitos, and their wine list leaves little to be desired. The food is all amazing, and the menu is a perfect size. As far as appetizers go, I recommend the Shishito Peppers, Tempura Green Beans, Onion Rings, Chilli Miso Soup, and either type of the Edamame. The appetizer portions are great and everything is so delicious. I also almost always get the River Rock Kobe, which is the 'sear it yourself' beef. The rolls are all great depending on personal preference, and the sashimi and nigiri are FRESH and delicious. I also love the Rebel Bowl, which is the rice and stir fried vegetables. I would like to preface this review with how great the atmosphere is at Jinsei. The noise level was a little loud but nothing that prevented conversation. Everyone was in good spirits and the house was close to packed. I thought the decor was beautiful. I initially chose to eat at Jinsei because of the pricing advertised on yelp ($) but would consider it more as a $$ restaurant. Something I could've checked beforehand but I don't mind paying extra. It was ~$46 (with tip) for me and my friend. We arrived around 8:45 and were seated immediately. Ordered edamame and three rolls: Salmon, Tiger and Red Dragon. The edamame came within a few minutes but we didn't receive our rolls for at least another 30 minutes. It was busy when we first arrived but since they close at 10, most of the crowd had left. We sat near the sushi bar and the entire time there were 3 chefs at the bar. Yet it took 30 minutes to bring out a Salmon roll. It was decent. We were starving and it was only one small roll to share until they brought the last two five minutes later. Our server checked on us maybe twice while we waited but didn't refill our waters either time. She was sympathetic but short with us and offered no resolution to our long wait time other than an apology. Another employee came around to tables filling glasses after ours had been empty and our server was nowhere to be found. We ate our food in less than 10 minutes and left the restaurant around 9:45. Long wait for a simple order. Might come back for drinks or to place a to-go order. read more

I went to Jinsei with a new friend that I met on Bumble BFF after discovering our obsession for sushi. It was a blast and we got to enjoy the best sushi in Oxford over some blackberry mojitos (amazing). I recommend the tempura green beans, big eye nachos, and the dragon roll! It is the perfect restaurant for date night or meeting a new friend! We ended up having a blast and have plans to go for every Mojito Monday for the rest of the semester. read more

I was looking forward to eating at Jinsei since it has been over a year that I've been in Oxford. They post that they close at 10 so having to work late, I rushed to make it before 10 PM ARRIVING AT 9:49 PM. I was ready for some great sushi. However, upon entering the restaurant I was met by the host who said that the kitchen was puting things up. I said oh that's ok I'm only wanting sushi. He told me that the sushi bar was also putting things up. Sooo disappointed! If you post that you are open until a certain time then you should serve people to that time. You might as well say that you close at 9:30. BTW, my sushi tabs usually runs around $150.00 so your loss. read more

the food here is delicious, so so so good, and our waitress was so helpful and amazing, especially considering my prty was 8 people. However, the hostess staff were extremely rude. I put my name down and, because of my large party, I had a large wait. I called after waiting for an hour to check to see where I was in line, and the waitress told me it had actually been 56 minutes, and my table wasn't ready. Eventually after an hour and a half, which had been the estimated wait time, me and my friends came and checked in with the hostesses, and they said that there still was no table for us. So we waited outside for ten more minutes, and my friend went back in to explain to them that it was my birthday and I really wanted to eat here, and they said that they had already texted me about my table and I checked my phone and they had not. The sushi/drinks/service/ambiance/dessert all blew my mind when we went for birthday dinner last night! I am originally from Seattle and this sushi competes toe to toe with my fav sushi place from home! We had the seaweed salad and the jinseviche for apps, I had a mango and ginger mojito, then we had the spirio and the jinsei special rolls. Then we had the lava cake with strawberries and vanilla ice cream for dessert! Everything was amazing, my favorite thing by far was the spirio roll, the fish just melted in our mouths like butter! No need for soy sauce or wasabi or ginger-- everything is flavored perfectly on it's own. I am coming back ASAP! read more

I have eaten here many many times, and it just never disappoints. It is by far the best sushi I've ever eaten. The Wolf and the Jari Jari are my favorite rolls on the menu so far. Their wings are so good you cannot go without ordering the wings! They are def the best wings in Oxford. They have a great drink menu. My favorite drinks are their mojitos! They are made with fresh fruit and herbs and are just so refreshing! I've eaten at almost every restaurant in Oxford and would definitely rank Jinsei in the top 5 places to eat here! Tucked away in a small corner of an obscure 1960s shopping center parking lot is the Jinsei. With surrounding business such as BBB, Snack Bar and Neon Pig, I was not quite certain what to expect. To my surprise the place quite a pleasant surprise to my first impression. A crystal clear night with a crispness that required the outdoor heaters and our party of five sat outside. The company was perfect and setting excellent. The food was good but the delivery process left me unimpressed. There was approximately a 10-15 time difference from the entree delivery to the last.
