Came here for Mother's Day brunch at the last minute after seeing the Instagram post. Food here is always top-notch. Food. I had the chicken cutlet and croffle (croissant and waffle). The chicken cutlet is cooked perfectly with a nice dose of Panko. It's served with a sauce that is a combination of a barbecue sauce and a hint of orange zest. Wonderful! We also had the Benny with pork belly. It's a generous helping of 4 slices of nicely smoked pork belly with two eggs and two croffles, and served with a very mild fried kimchi. The onsen eggs are cooked perfectly for a creamy yolk. So good. Service. Always prompt and courteous. These menu items are only served once a year on Mother's Day so you'll have to wait another year to try this. It will be worth the wait. read more

So glad we checked out this gem before flying back home. Honestly, we enjoyed every single dish we ordered, and also liked the restaurant atmosphere. The chef definitely added her own creative tweaks to the traditional dishes. The dishes were nicely plated, the service was friendly, and the prices were reasonable. We will definitely go back if we ever visit Calgary again. I used to work at Anju and Jinhee Lee used to visit Roy Oh often, so this visit was a must! Situated in a quiet area down 4th St NE where nothing else is open, inside was flourishing with craft cocktails and social buzz with only a couple small tables available. We ordered beet and ricotta salad to start, which was fresh with the perfect amount of citrus. Then had Angus beef short rib which was cooked medium in a rich pear soy jus and a side mash with veg. I absolutely love black cod which is why we didn't do the tasting menu so we could try both mains. It was super buttery soft roasted in a kaffir lime and curry sauce with just the perfrct amount of spice. All dishes were top notch! On our visit to Canada we had dinner at Jin Bar. My husband had read a review about this place and also as Koreans we can't pass up an opportunity to eat KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) although here they call it JFC (JinBar Fried Chicken). Lovely space in a historic building with hjgh ceilings and tin ceiling tiles. Loved the atmosphere and decor. Very hip and fun. Not traditional Korean food like in Flushing NY but definitely Korean themed sauces like gochijang and items like rice cakes. The chicken is the star at this place. Crispy and battered perfectly. Brussel sprouts with garlicky sesame and red pepper/honey? flavored roasted beautifully. We tried the bulgogi pizza which was very good but not the star. Topped the meal of with soft serve ice cream. What a surprising gem of a restaurant, tucked away with the subtlety of a secret handshake in a casual neighborhood. We happened upon Jin Bar during a birthday celebration nested within our recent excursion to Calgary and Banff. The meal was so outstanding, one could argue it momentarily upstaged the majesty of the Rockies. We shared a grand tally of 8-10 items, not excluding the dessert, each more captivating than the last - it was as if our tastebuds were indulging in an exquisitely penned novella. The service was also great - and she helped us narrow down our menu selections because there were too many items we wanted to try. While the ambiance indeed matches with the "Bar" namesake, the food is next-level. Easily the best restaurant we've been to in months and worthy of a Michelin star. read more

Street food inspired with a fine dining feel. Jin Bar over delivered. I guess you can never go wrong with Korean fried chicken, especially when it finds its way onto a pizza. There's definitely been buzz around Jin Bar considering the head chef/owner Jinhee Lee was on Top Chef Canada. It was cool to see her cooking up a storm when we were visiting, almost making you appreciate the experience that much more. RATING: 9.5/10 - Jin Bar Always start with cocktails. I ordered Mu-ung-hwa upon the server's recommendation and little did I know it was exactly what I needed. Hibiscus gin, lime, raspberries, it was refreshing and had the perfect amount of citrus-- kinda reminded me of a margarita without the tequila. My sis ordered Jin Jin mule and absolutely adored it. We ordered an array of dishes, the first one being the savoury & tangy boneless fried chicken and OMG, it was finger lickin' good. The chicken was so moist and perfectly breaded, then add the sweet sauce and it was out of this world-- sticky, crunchy, and full of flavour. To add into the mix, we decided upon a half and half pizza--part Korean beef bulgogi, part fried buldack. Two notes: one, being able to have two different types of pizza in one is always brilliant and two, fried chicken on pizza should always be a thing. The dough was perfectly soft and the toppings were reminiscent of different bites of Korea. Last but not least, the sauteed kimchi mac & cheese. The kimchi brought a new dimension to this classic. Cheesy, rich and a slight acidity from the kimchi this worked perfectly. Also important, our server was lovely and guided us to everything we wanted. I love the vibes at Jin Bar. I waited so long to come here and the hype was so not worth it. . We got in pretty quick and the vibe is nice, good layout, but kind of loud and the service was slowwww. . This is the first time in a long time I'd been somewhere and they never did a quality check. We just ordered drinks and chicken and then decided it wasn't our vibe. . 1) espresso martini - gross and didn't even get a chance to say something, nor was I interested in trying, quite frankly. ($11) - don't recommend. . 2) Trolly 5 -(9$) delish and would recommend. . 3) traditional chicken with jalapeño soy. (16$ +1.50$ for sauce) - very tasty, but not worth 17.50$. . Read about this in Avenue and thought we would give it a try as it sounded like an interesting twist from regular Korean fare. We ordered a variety of sharing dishes plus their 3 course fixxe menu. The three course had scallops in butter sauce which was pretty tasty (3 scallops). Then ahi tuna seared on iceberg lettuce which is apparently the same as the appetizer on the regular menu aside from the extra lettuce which actually makes it more complete. Then the braised sous vious short ribs was worth trying again. At $38 it would be a bit pricy off of the regular menu for what you get for portion size. We added a split pizza. Half maple bacon with chip toppings and the other half bulgogi. Was interesting but didn't really make it for us. Also had their highly regarded kfc. It was okay and we tried all of their dipping sauces. Nothing too special going on here. There are better versions of kfc out there. Nice bar area which we sat at as the dining area was full. Service was good. Overall a decent place to try out. Not sure if I'd be in a rush to go back though unless you were looking for something of a twist on Korean food. read more

Brand new restaurant in Bridgeland. The fried chicken was amazing! The skin was so crispy and light. Not heavy batter like some places. Chicken was juicy! Price for 3 piece is $15, so on the high end for fried chicken in calgary. It was there pop up event today, so I ordered pick up and waited 5 min when I got there. Jin Bar is a relatively short walk from the Calgary Public Library. The staff were all friendly. If you are there for a special occasion, you can leisurely enjoy your meal. If you're there to eat and get going, the service is fast. We ordered the boneless fried chicken with the Korean chili glaze and the Korean beef bulgogi pizza. The fried chicken was excellent. On my next visit, I would order it again along with an order of the chicken with one of the other sauces that they offer. The pizza was unlike any pizza I had before. While I generally love bulgogi and I love pizza, I'm not so sure I would order this particular dish again. While it was good, it did not wow me the way I expected it to. read more

Really wanted to like this place but found it overpriced and with small portions. The restaurant hasn't changed much from when it was Waalflower, we were expecting an Asian feel to it given the asian fusioned food but just didn't fit. All good though, more focused on level of food than atmosphere. We shared the ahi tuna, which had a good tasting sauce but very expensive at $16 for what we got - 6 small cuts of tuna. The kimchi Mac and cheese was alright but small, good flavours but was expecting to be topped with pickly kimchi or something to make it special. We had the Buldak fried chicken that was pretty good but we didn't like how the breading just fell off and that you didn't have a choice of boneless or not. Would rather have with bone fried chicken for sure. Was $15 for 3 pieces so on the pricey side. Beef bulgogi pizza didn't have much in toppings and was soggy in the middle. The pizza crust was good and cheesy but the soggy middle wasn't super appetizing. We had some beers and the mule (decent). $123 all in for the 3 of us and we could have eaten more.
