SLIME SHRIMP CHOP SUEY MUSH !!

Food extremely slimy and old taste. Do not order anything? Close it Down Nothing will improve Close it Down!

I tried this place out of pure curiosity, despite the reviews, as it's been around for so long and I kept overlooking or forgetting about it even when I lived here. I went with my parents and daughter for lunch on a Thursday and it was pretty empty aside from one other family (my parents had never been here either). We were promptly seated with the server being somewhat polite but not necessarily warm or friendly and didn't smile at all the entire time we were there. Interior is nicely decorated and spacious and looked moderately clean. The menu is huge, which is to be expected for a restaurant with pan-Asian cuisine. I was initially going to get the lunch special Pad Thai, but the server said the portion is smaller than the regular Pad Thai so I opted for the regular size since I was pretty hungry. My dad ordered the Singapore Rice Noodles, my mom got the Pineapple Fried Rice, and we got a Tonkatsu and Rainbow Roll to share. I ordered an avocado smoothie and I got a kid's bento for my daughter that had fried rice, broccoli, two pot stickers, and two fried shrimp. The kid's bento is nice since they provide different food item options to customize it. We didn't wait too long for our food, but that's where the experience goes downhill. The Pad Thai was hands-down the most bland Pad Thai that I've ever had, which is strange because it looks like it had enough sauce on it. The chicken itself was okay but it was still so, so bland. I used the lime and that's literally all I tasted afterwards, but I still finished it because I was that hungry and don't like wasting food. My parents didn't fare much better with their dishes. The pineapple in the Pineapple Fried Rice had a really weird taste to it, like it had gone bad. Additionally, both that and the Singapore Rice Noodles were incredibly salty and they could only take a few bites of each before they had to stop, so I felt really bad. The fish on the Rainbow Roll didn't look or taste fresh at all either. My daughter enjoyed her bento so at least there's that, but the fried shrimp was probably 95% breading and 5% shrimp (not even exaggerating). The only decent things we had were the avocado smoothie and the tonkatsu, although the tonkatsu was made super thin. I still feel bad that I dragged my parents along, so now I know to go alone the next time I want to try something out of curiosity. Usually when I have a disappointing dining experience I can say "I'm glad that I tried it, at least," but I'm sorry to say that that statement doesn't apply here.

Thai Fried Rice Lunch, Chicken Broccoli Lunch Special

I feel like this food kinda is what you pay for. It's very mid, but I guess that's expected at this price point. They do have solid fried rice and the service is quick, so I'd still recommend it as a good place to stop for lunch in downtown Naperville. Overall the food is very average though.

Adding on as my daughter wanted to come back just three days later! We had the Pad See Eiu again but added a Mexican sushi roll which was honestly below average. Will have to try other sushi next time.

I got the lunch special. The soup was egg drop soup I believe and it way okay. Nothing amazing, maybe slightly under seasoned. I got the Pad Thai with crab rangoons as my entree. The Crab Rangoons were basically just cream cheese, not much crab in it. The Pad Thai is what stood out to me. I took a couple of bites and couldn't finish it. It was really sweet. It tasted like the noodles were mixed with a bunch of sweet and sour sauce. Over all it was a lot of food for the price (under 15) but the food was just not to my taste.

Ordered some delivery from Jin 28 and had a mixed experience. The food took quite a bit of time to deliver (over an hour) despite the restaurant being less than a mile away, well after normal dinner hours (late evening), and the size of the order being small. Portion sizes were alright for the price, though most other restaurants do fill it completely full and this was only partially full except for the fried rice. The flavor was in line with expections. Orange chicken was sweet and a little spicy, with deep fried batter (no longer crispy by the time it arrived). Honey walnut shrimp had sweet and crunchy almonds with a fairly sweet mayo and lightly cooked broccoli. The pineapple chicken fried rice was a little underwhelming, with a good amount of onion and vegetables, but wasn't as aromatic as i would have expected. Overall, the food was alright and the prices reasonable. But not a top choice next time I need some Chinese delivery.

Walked in and there was only one couple dining inside, which I should've taken as a sign that this place wasn't good. There was no one to greet us so we just sat ourselves at any table. We ordered crab rangoon, and for the sushi rolls we had the mushroom roll, salmon roll, sakura roll, spicy crabmeat roll, and spider roll. The crab rangoon was alright, not the best I've had but also not the worst. The salmon, mushroom, and spicy crabmeat were good but the other rolls were just okay. There's a lot better restaurants nearby I would not come back to this restaurant.

Ordered from them twice to-go and it was so GOOD! I was sick craving soup and pad thai and I was not disappointed. Their portions were great and I recommend trying the hot and sour soup. The restaurant itself is small and kinda hidden but it also cute inside.

Our group had sushi, chicken chop suey, General Tsao's chicken, and sesame chicken with broccoli. Also mai tais. The food came out quickly, nice and hot. Mai tais were good, had fun straws. It was not very crowded on a Sat nite, we got there at 5. Everyone liked what they ordered, they also have Thai selections to go along with the Chinese, and sushi. I found the chop sticks a bit " slippery", had to switch to a fork.

We sat 25 minutes before we got water, and that was after we had gotten an appetizer of edamame. We waited 40 minutes for our other appetizer and our actual dinner came out around the 55 minute mark. We had asked timing on the food, and our server was very dismissive. They did make a comment saying that they weren't expected to get this busy, but the restaurant was about 60% to 70% capacity at max. After our appetizer came out and we scarfed it down, they made a very strange remark, saying, "Sorry, I didn't know you were that hungry." Of course we're hungry - we came out to eat at a restaurant. (It wasn't a joking manner that they said it.) Overall, the vibe that we got from the server was so strange and uncanny, it took forever to get our food, and we left disappointed. The restaurant looks really cool and the food was good, so it was disappointing.

If you're a cheesecake fan, it's a pretty sad way to end the meal. Thankfully my last sushi bite was the Zuke salmon, which is always excellent. We spent around $350, which normally isn't an issue because we've had great experiences here in the past. But this visit was frustrating. My sister-in-law has a serious allergy to seeds and peanuts, and we were crystal clear about needing no sesame. In the past, the staff has been extremely careful and accommodating. This time, two rolls came out with sesame. We were willing to let those slide and said it was fine. But then they brought out a third roll with sesame--and that's when we got agitated. At that point, it really ruined the shared meal we were hoping for. What was safe tasted great, but the repeated mistakes took the enjoyment out of the experience. We weren't in any rush, but it definitely felt like the kitchen was winding down for the night. Chef Soon also wasn't there, which was disappointing because it genuinely felt like the attention to detail wasn't the same without him. And not to sound cheap, but after that many allergy-related mistakes, there should have been some sort of acknowledgment of an apology, actions speak louder than words. In my opinion a small discount, a complimentary dessert or app, something should have been offered. Instead, nothing. Chef soon is my favorite sushi restaurant. I often tell anyone in Illinois it's the best I've been to here. Normally this is a solid five-star spot for us, but tonight was a three out of five at best. Mistakes happen, and I'll be back... but this visit was honestly pretty upsetting. I think I may be on a search for a new favorite sushi place for my sister.

BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY…read more Mesón Sabika is a truly beloved restaurant with whom I have a complicated history. ______________________ ***REVIEW #1,300*** ______________________ As hundredth milestone reviews go, this one is deeply personal -- I was supposed to have my wedding & reception here in March 2020.  That never happened due to things far beyond my control (damn pandemic) and I've been not-so-secretly pining for that moment ever since. I wound up tying the knot with the love of my life at a nearby park but without any of the fanfare, guests, food, liquor, live band, florist, or photographer.  We had already placed a sizeable deposit on a food & bev package, so when Mesón management abruptly raised the prices on us by 20% due to "volatile market pricing", we accepted a buyout in the form of gift certificates. Between dine-in and carryout orders, over the next 18 months we ate here a LOT.....I'll admit it was fun treating family & friends to dinner with reckless abandon.  Each experience was great, from the service and ambiance to the small plates and sangria.  We did get pretty ill following one visit, although I suspect it came from another guest in the vicinity, rather than a bout of food poisoning. The picturesque mansion - built in 1847 - is elegant but cramped inside, so I recommend dining on the gorgeous patio if weather permits.  Prices for tapas are the same regardless of lunch or dinner, although they do have entree specials unique to both meals (and their delicious paella is exclusive to dinnertime). Without going into crazy detail about each cold dish (of which there are 15) or hot tapas (of which there are 23), I'll call out a few highlights: the bacon-wrapped dates ($14), the duck confit ($16), the cold garlic potato salad ($15), goat cheese w/poached pear ($15), cured salmon in dill cream cheese ($14) and grilled skirt steak ($19). Their paella is great and feeds 3-4 people; I recommend the 'campesina' ($25 with chicken & chorizo) unless you're big on seafood, in which case the 'mariscos' ($42 with shrimp, mussels, clams, scallops, and octopus) might be up your alley.  Desserts are splendid, especially the crème brûlée ($12) and the pear tart ($12). The servers are all male (it's a Catalan thing) and very attentive.  Order a pitcher of white or red house sangria and let all your troubles melt away until you're set adrift on memory bliss.  Or until they kick you out. * TL;DR * Just like the 'tarta de chocolate' on their dessert menu, Mesón stirs up feelings in me that are poignantly bittersweet. On one hand, I've been here 10 times and have nothing but praise for the kitchen + atmosphere.  On the other hand, whenever I see the staff prepping the adjacent event space for a wedding, I get wistful and cry a teeny bit inside.  Couldn't the COVID outbreak have waited one more month, until after my nuptials? The restaurant biz is tough with plenty of overhead, but Mesón is still chugging along and serving the same excellent tapas since 1990.  Anyone who's ever dined here can attest it's a gorgeous venue with spectacular food and professional service. I highly recommend Mesón Sabika for lunch or dinner, and if you're considering having a wedding here, do it.  Hopefully you'll have better luck than me.
