My favorite Jim's location. I've been to this location multiple times over the years and it's never disappointed. The menu is full of satisfying comfort food, the staff makes sure you're taken care of, and the restaurant is consistently clean for the most part. The one thing I will note is that service is on the slower side, so I wouldn't recommend dining here if you're on a tight schedule. It's obvious the cook at the Broadway location doesn't know how to fry eggs over medium. We have breakfast there often & I order the chopped steak & egg. I order my steak medium & eggs over medium. Over medium eggs are fried with the white fully set & yellow runny but I never get them that way even after sending back the second time. I visit San Antonio a few times a year and stay at a place near this Jim's. I spent my teen years on the other side of town and remember Jim's fondly as a place to go on late-night dates or meet my study group from school. Which is why when i discovered my favorite breakfast place was closed, i picked Jim's. It was also an opportunity to take my friend, new to Texas, to an icon. The restaurant was bright and clean with lots of parking. We were greeted and seated immediately. My friend is a light eater and we usually split a meal between us. After ordering coffee, we asked if that was ok, and the server assured me it was no problem. No only was it not a problem, but she had the kitchen plate the meal on two separate plates for us! Super kind! But when she placed a plate in front of me and had a similar plate in her other hand, i mistakenly thought she had brought us two orders.... nope, it was one order on two plates. In other words, the portions are HUGE. We shared the Chili & Eggs: Three eggs, your style, topped with Frontier Chili and Cheddar cheese, served with refried beans, hash browns and flour tortillas. The chili on fluffy eggs was a treat i'd never believe if i hadn't eaten it. Everything was delicious and even half the portion was too much for us to finish. No going hungry here! Thank the sweet skies of Texas that Jim's is still open. It was alil late but I and we were so hungry. There was hardly anyone there so the staff was very helpful and always present if we needed something. I ordered the Ol' Smokey Burger w/side of fries cooked medium. I take my burgers nearly bleeding its the best way. I gobbled that burger up like it was a happy meal. It was the perfect meal to end the night. The diner was clean and not too cold which is a huge plus in my book. Its hard to get comfy and enjoy a good meal when the a/c is blasting. I wish I lived closer, I would visit and eat at this place on the regular. I hope and pray this location never closes. read more

I was surprised the chicken had a charr taste. Onion rings 4/5. Crispy and light batter. Nice. Mash potatoes with brown gravy 3/5. Tasted alright. Kinda bland. Toast 5/5. Buttered salty and crispy. We LOVE diners. Jim's did not disappoint. The restaurant interior definitely looks dated/dirty/dingy but that usually makes for a good diner. Our server was good. No complaints. My husband and I were so excited to get Turkey clubs with fries. We added a cup of their "famous, award winning" tortilla soup. Our kids got: silver dollar pancakes and mini cheeseburgers & fries. The food was excellent. The tortilla soup, though good, wasn't anything to write home about. I don't know what award they win but it didn't seem that special. Met out of town family that wanted to go to Jims so we met at Blanco and Loop 1604 location for lunch. I decided to have Texas breakfast omelette and it was ok. Sausage, bacon and ham kind of dry. The biscuits were really good and grits ok. My wife and son had Original burgers which were really good and my daughter had chicken and waffles which were also tasty. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. The interior of the restaurant could really be updated as the carpet and tile look worn. read more

The food was great, service from Rita was attentive and sweet. However, the a/c was out and this place needs a deep cleaning. The parking lots was full of weeds and trash. I hope that by closing some Jim's they can give the remaining ones a face lift because I like the food here more than Denny's and IHOP, especially the tortillas soup and buttermilk pancakes. You might want to skip this location for Broadway/410 instead. read more

I was looking for pie for Pi Day and thought to call Jim's if they had homemade pies. Lynn answered the phone and I originally asked her to set a chocolate cream pie for me. When I got to the restaurant, I saw they had strawberry pies and thought my Dad would enjoy that more. Paul, the manager, gladly gave me the strawberry pie and asked if I wanted to top it off with whipped cream. Glad I did because the pie looked beautifully done. I shared half of the pie with neighbors and had plenty for my Dad, hubby and myself. The strawberries were ginormous! Such sweet success! read more

Jim's has a c that is not working. My wife and I had breakfast here at least once a week. The pancakes are wonderful and the eggs are always fresh and prepared as you requested. The two challenges to being comfortable are cleanliness and climate control. The place is worn out, dirty and with the a c nonexistent----why eat here. This is very sad to see this restaurant, which used to be packed, go into such decline. It is very apparent they can't get help as a good portion of the place is closed off. read more

Jim's is so underrated! They have great diner food and it's always consistent. My husband and I ordered the same thing which was the Rustlers Round up. It comes with three eggs, hashbrowns or grits, bacon, sausage, and ham. We both opted for the hashbrowns, and got a side of grits to share. We also got one pancake. Our server was very efficient and attentive. Our food was so delicious. I know it's just a normal American breakfast but the eggs were cooked to absolute over medium perfection, the bacon was crispy and the hashbrowns were deliciously golden brown on the outside and fluffy as a cloud on the inside. Our toast was perfect and we never had to ask for a refill. If you want a true diner experience, make sure you go here sometime. It's a relaxed and casual restaurant. You can skip the grits and pancakes though, they were just very very very average. read more

Jims does breakfast comfort food right! Get the eggs Benedict. Hashbrown is cooked crisp and flavorful as it should. Most places will usually serve sad soggy hash with no flavor. But Jim does it right! Mix in the eggs and hollandaise with the toasty english muffin and its the flavor bliss that reminds you of waking up to a perfect morning breakfast. I know this is Jim's so my five stars is based on that fact and not as a fine dining establishment. That said, Jim's was absolutely delicious today and our waitress, Rita, was fast and friendly. She told us that their head cook had been there for 34 years and that he was a great cook and quick and she wasn't kidding! It was fairly busy and our food came out less than ten minutes after we ordered and it was hot, fresh and delicious! The husband had a bacon breakfast sandwich on Texas toast with hash browns and I had eggs Benedict with hash browns and fresh fruit (strawberries, grapes, bananas and cantaloupe) and it was all amazing. We followed up with a yummy piece of chocolate cream pie. We're definitely going back soon, they have lunch specials! read more

Decent food and the place is always open. Service is hit or miss, but eventually you will get fed. My kids like the kids Silver Dollar pancakes. We usually order a Frontier Sampler basket that has chicken strips, fried mushrooms, and mozzarella sticks. I wish they had more cooked vegetable options because I always seem to hit gross vegetable day. The coconut cream pie is good. Tortilla soup is a religion in San Antonio and Jim's serves up a decent bowl. No fancy garnishes, just warm soup with a nice flavor. We were here one Thanksgiving when our planned host got sick and couldn't host, and the food was surprisingly good. Good enough that I've considered eating here and then going to another Thanksgiving meal later. Kids eat free on Sunday and Monday nights, which is much appreciated. read more

I enjoy sending in shining reviews on good people that do exemplary work and give me great services. My parents visit San Antonio once or twice a year, and while recently here had the privilege of meeting such a team. Jim's Restaurant #39 at 18155 Blanco Road has a terrific crew. They work the graveyard shift until 8:00 AM. He usually arrive towards the end of their shift and spends a couple of hours having breakfast and waiting for his doctor's appointment. His waitress Marie always is there and it is a real pleasure to have her serve my dad. She is a shining star and super example to all she works with and a great asset to Jim's. She is a pleasure to just be around as she is cheerful, thoughtful, and very attentive. How she can be that personable, that early, is beyond me. However, the rest of this crew are the cream of the crop. From the wait staff to the cooks, and even the maintenance person are all the same. They are made up of Elsa, Arturo, Clifton, Tonya, and Belle. All are employees that give Jim's a good name. Not just pleasant and enjoyable to be around, but you can see they are a cohesive group as well. When they have no customers they are working, they are busy cleaning everything in the restaurant. Even the bathrooms and floors are spotless. Gratitude for a job well done and my compliments to the on duty manager, Paul. It takes great managers to hire and train great personnel. He runs a great team, behind the scenes, and should loobe proud of the example that they set. Thanks to all. read more

Absolutely delicious. Plain and simple. The server was extremely friendly and very helpful in offering suggestions. I brought my family here for the first time which included three adults and two kids. That being said, we found a little something for everyone at Jim's. It was about 11 A.M. so the cravings were a little mixed with some wanting breakfast and some wanting lunch. I myself, chose to go with "breakfast". Now the reason for the quotations is because I still ordered the chicken fried steak but also got eggs! And my oh my was it delicious! The breading was perfectly seasoned, had a great crunch and the gravy on top was absolutely delicious! My mouth is watering thinking about it! The only complaint I could have about this place was that it was definitely understaffed, (maybe it was just that shift), and our poor server was running all over their place! I stopped in for breakfast before going grocery shopping. I had the Texas omelet with toast and hash browns. Due to a shortage of personnel there were only 2 waitresses running around and taking care of everyone, to include the register. Honestly, I've lived in San Antonio for 11 years and have never been to Jim's! I'm not sure why?? I've always heard great things about the chicken tortilla soup and decided while out late at night with my daughter to try it out. First of all, the restaurant was very clean (for being older) and our server was extremely nice! She raved about the soup! My daughter (12) decided a kids pizza sounded good. Oh goodness! The soup is one of the best I've ever had!!! It's SO flavorful and loaded with tortilla chips and shredded cheddar... like a full meal!
