Not bad. I discovered this place after having gone to Jim's in Seaside many times. The signage and name was too similar to be a coincidence, and sure enough they are all relatives. The cooking style is very different however from Jim's in Seaside. I definitely prefer Jims in seaside but look foward to maybe giving it another go later on. New to the area and wanted to at least give this place a try. First, three stars is generous. I mean come on if the scale is 1 to 5 with five being the best this place is barley a 2. But we did really like the food. The fresh veggies were amazing and the food was hot and came out quick after we ordered. However, we were the only customers at 6:00 on a Tuesday besides the three different people that came in for take out while we were there. Now the reason it's a two. When we came in half of the tables had dirty dishes on them and no customers. Our table was greasy like their ventilation is clogged. The menus seemed well used and dirty. The place could use a good cleaning. We used the Yelp recommendations and ordered. Two types of fried rice, chow mien, beef with broccoli and another beef dish. We went here for dinner last saturday night, and the food & wine was outstanding. My husband had the steak and fries, and the fries were thin and crispy-Parisien style. My dish was a chicken pasta with carbonara sauce with white wine cream sauce which was absolutely delicious. We also tried the fried shrimp with the panko bread crumb coating. Very fresh and tasty....Everything was great, and the server was friendly and outstanding. We ended dinner with a nice homemade cheesecake with lemon sauce and homemade vanilla bean ice-cream. It was a perfect dinner after visiting the aquarium. The prices were awesome too, and we will definitley be tempted to come back again. read more

A friend wanted to try it, based on a newspaper review. It was okay, and I wouldn't have an objection to eating there again, but it won't jump to my list of favorites. The flavors and overall taste were not bad but not great. We did try the Dim Sum, and not being that familiar with dim sum -- I always thought Dim Sum meant the lights weren't bright enough to read the check -- I guess it was okay, but I wouldn't drive to Prunetuckey just for Dim Sum. It may just be that my palate is not attuned to this specialty -- call me a Philistine... read more

This is a very average "Chinese" restaurant. That being said they make a very tasty phô :)

The nice asian lady and the noodle bowls are the only reason I still come here. The sweet stuff is too sweet. There was more carbs in my orange chicken than a Micheal phelp's breakfast challenge. The fried rice was enjoyable. The noodle bowls here are no joke, if that is your thing, recommend checking this place out. read more

This place was amazing. I went with some friends who ordered the Filet Mignon & Shrimp and the Grilled Prawns on a penne pasta with pesto sauce. I ordered a Black Angus Hamburger. We also had the fried calamari appetizers (wow, these were fresh and very light) as well as dessert. We just kept ordering different things because the food was so good. You definitely could miss this place as your drive down the road or in the parking lot, but you would be sorry. The food is great. We can't wait until the Winemaker's Dinner! read more

WOW. what can I say.....What can't I say ??? Chinese food was great ! Some of the best chinese food Ive ever had. Orange chicken actually had huge chunks of chicken in it. Mongolian Beef was great. soup was excellent and huge portion. I didn't walk in here expecting it to be this good. Don't let the location and exterior fool you. They have been around for years and I wish we knew about them a long time ago. All of their food is cooked from scratch and from a master chef. You can taste the freshness in all the food. Doesnt give you that I want to sit on my couch feeling after you eat it. They also serve american food and italian food which Ive yet to try. They have this older italian gentleman who goes there all the time and said their italian food reminds him of italy...The service is great owners are very friendly. read more

We visited Jim's on Sunday the 28th of February 2016. It was about 2 o'clock in the afternoon. We placed an order to go for egg rolls and chicken chow mien . The waitress was very friendly . I asked if there was a restroom. I was very surprised to find out that I had to go through the kitchen to get to the one bathroom. Which also stores a great deal including a filthy mop bucket with filthy water. The bathroom should have been an embarrassment enough to them . The kitchen was a disgrace ! On my left on the floor was a stainless steel bowl full of discarded( at least I hope) fried rice , the cooks clothing was filthy and he was preparing cooked and uncooked food with the same knives and on the same prep area. Four skinned whole chicken adorned one wall just hanging there, on the floor by the bathroom door was a five gallon bucket of what looked like hardened fat and grease. The shelves a haven for whatever they could stuff in them and a pile of boxes along side the dinning room counter floor to ceiling! Someone's child that worked there the only person in the dining room until just before we got our order. A guy had come in and had to ask if he could sit and get a meal as the waitress just looked at him waiting for him to address her. The child on a computer . Another guy had the back door open doing I don't know what and I thought his time would have been better served cleaning the four dirty tables in the dinning room. The place as a whole needs a serious clean up , reorganization and a remodel . She place our chow mien and egg rolls , napkins, forks and sauce in a plastic bag and the bag ended up full of wet soggy mess! The noodles were over cooked and the chicken was full of fat and grizzle. The napkins and fortune cookies a complete loss , she gave us 1 packet of soy sauce. We returned the chow mien and I doubt we will visit again . Really I think the health department needs to inspect. It had been recommended to us quite some time ago and maybe it's gone down since then . So the Herald write up on all the Tables wasn't a true reflection of Jim's anymore. Very disappointed ! On the fly my friend and I went to Jims and had their Dim Sum. Well, I have eaten Dim Sum from San Francisco to different restaurants on the Peninsula, Jim's was the BEST!. Everything was fresh, made to order and the largest pot stickers I have ever seen. Their cilantro and shrimp dumplings were unbelievably fabulous. I am definitely going back. I have eaten there numerous time and have never been disappointed. He really needs to move to Salinas as there are no good restaurants there, but he is worth the drive to Prunedale, especially on a beautiful and sunny day. Thanks Jim. read more

This has some of the best Chinese food I've found outside of New York and SF. Since we moved to Prunedale about 5 years ago, we've eaten there regularly. People who say the decor isn't as nice are idiots. It is very casual and comfortable and the food is outstanding. Also, the guy who went there for a hamburger should have gone to Burger King next door. This is real Chinese food, not Americanized. it is better than anything in Salinas or around. And if you're looking for Mexican, La Tapatia right up the street is gourmet Mexican food. I haven't found traditional real Mexican food this good since working in Mexico City and Juarez (2 years there). read more

We have been to Jim's many times and have been very pleased with every dish we have ordered. Jim's Walnut Shrimp is the best we have ever had. (We have tried the dish in many restaurants, but none compare to Jim's!) It is a generous portion served with candied walnuts and seedless grapes. Annie's service is always the best, too. WOW I am was suprisingly impressed with the food in this tiny little restaurant that read chinese cuisine and the location i think should be in a busier city, but the food amazing i had the garlic lamb cooked med rare, and my boyfriend had the jewish fliet and they were both amazing and the dessert chocolate tart was even more of a treat i would definetley go again in a heart beat really good food!! read more

Do not get the fried rice. I have never seen rice with that much oil. Seemed as if it was a couple of days old. The rest of the food was just ok. Not worth the money. I will say that my son said "it's normally not this bad". Maybe they had a "off" day. read more

I am a local here live in "Prunetucky". I eat at Jim's quite a few times. The owner, Stephen, trained in French cuisine from 5-star restaurant in San Francisco. His American dishes are far more superior than the Chinese cooking, in my humble opinion (I am Chinese). Service can be slow on a busy day, but with limited space in the kitchen, it is still amazing how he turns out so many delicious dishes with nice presentation. Try the desserts too. Don't let the location or the name fool you. The location actually makes the prices more reasonable. Give it a try and start out with American dishes first. read more

Great eats at a reasonable cost. Recommend Jim's Won ton Noddle Soup, spicy with jalapenos & Jim's Chow Mein, spicy with jalapenos. Yummm!

Just went to their monthly food/wine pairing last Sunday. There were about six courses and three wines. The peach sorbet was out of this world. The salad course was topped with a tomato sorbet that was so delicate as to be indescribable. All of the food was delicious (except for the appetizer which was a little too exotic for me), the service was family style and the wine was excellent (Hallcrest Vineyards).
