Over the 25 years, or so, that I have known Jim he has repaired several cars. The range of size from small to big repairs. He's an absolute artisan and perfectionist. One time I stopped by just to say "Hi" and he saw something in the finish of the repair he had done and told me to drop it by and let him fix it. I still haven't seen the problem, but he did and took care of it. The most important thing, though, is you can trust him. Our most recent issue was our parked car being hit in a parking lot. Of course, State Farm wanted to fix it with junk yard parts. I don't trust them or their "approved" vendors. I took the estimate to Jim and he quickly negotiated a fair settlement. Jim fixed our Chevy Tahoe back bumper and replaced tail light component. Not a huge job, but we did have to run it through insurance. We used factory part for light. He also fixed a door ding for a few extra bucks off the insurance. In speaking with Jim during the estimate process, it was clear he knows his stuff. Car looks great. We only had to get a rental for 3 days--Jim did not delay in getting the car in and out of there. Jim was honest, quick, and his prices were very reasonable. I have had work done by Jim in the past and he has done good work. I went in to get an estimate for some front-end work due to an accident. Because we were not going through insurance, I asked if he could go with aftermarket parts whenever possible and he agreed. He sent me a very detailed estimate for the job and then I stopped by to go over it. He originally was not going to replace the old grill as it was not part of the original estimate, but because of some minor defects prior to the accident, I told him we preferred a new grill too. Everything else looked good to me so I gave him the green light. I get an email from Jim stating that he couldn't get an aftermarket grill so he would have to purchase an OEM grill. After a few google searches, believing I was helping, I found one dealer who had 40% off OEM online parts. I told him I found the grill for a couple hundred off and ran the idea past him about me purchasing the grill. His exact response was "of course". He goes on to explain that he charges list prices but never explains that he is actually profiting from the parts he purchases. Jim's next email says he has bad news and now quotes me a higher price for other parts - higher than what he had in his estimate, with no explanation and a take it or leave it offer. Believing, at the time, that Jim was having problems finding the cheaper aftermarket parts, I found that those parts were also 40% off, OEM from the dealer. I again "ASKED" him if we could go with these parts. He turns a 180 and says, "sorry he doesn't work that way" and that if I wanted OEM parts, he would have given me an OEM estimate. Without explanation, he declined the work and asked me to come get the van. I was taken aback by this. By the way he was acting, it was at this point that I realized he is probably buying these parts at some wholesale price and pocketing the rest. I told him I wasn't intending to take anything away from him and that I thought I was helping. I said I would accept the new estimate if he was still willing to do the work, however, he claimed that he was suddenly booked and repeated that I could come get my keys. I get there to pick up my keys and, already knowing Jim couldn't find his big boy pants by his refusal to address the elephant in the room, he opens the door halfway, sticks his hand out, hands me the keys and claims he must get back to work. That was that. What gets me is that the grill wasn't even part of the original estimate as he was just going to slap on the old grill with the new parts. Therefore, what difference does it make whether you grab the old grill when putting the front end back together or grab a new grill your customer brought in? In fact, wouldn't it had taken MORE time to have removed the old grill from the bumper? In any event, perhaps Jim just wanted to profit from the grill as well so he could further fund his "discount" he claims I was receiving. Who knows. I have been nothing but nice and respectful to this guy and I thought we had a good relationship. Yet, for whatever reason, Jim decided to make incorrect assumptions, thought the worst of me, refused to explain why he appeared upset and decided to "punish" me by declining the job as if I was some kind of criminal. To be honest, I was quite disappointed, hurt and at one point I even blamed myself but at the end of the day, Jim was only punishing Jim. Jim led me to believe that I could get the parts myself by agreeing that I could purchase the grill only to play some game and raise his prices on other parts to make up for what I can only guess was a lost, pointless profit on the grill. I had no idea this was his business model and Jim failed to simply explain this to me. No reputable business would ever treat a customer like this - especially a loyal customer. I own 7 cars and I can only say that he made a HORRIBLE business blunder over what I call a petty misunderstanding. I went to another body shop the next morning who, without asking, explained their business model including how they don't profit from parts like some of the other shops do. They also ENCOURAGED me to go onto the internet to find cheaper parts. They gave me an initial estimate, which was considerably cheaper than Jim's, and said between their office and myself looking for cheaper parts that we might possibly get the estimate down even further. This was a breath of fresh air after what I had just went through with Jim. I guess some things are meant to be. I waited to post this review until my van was finished from the other shop. They did an excellent job and exceeded my expectations. This shop also did not have a new grill as part of the original estimate, but I included it with the parts that I purchased and told them it was in the back of the van. They did not charge me for the installation of the grill. I wish those who decide to take a chance on Jim the best of luck. read more

Jim's the best there is. Period. A few months ago, I had someone run into my rear bumper. Being new to the area, my wife and I asked around looking for a reputable body shop that we could trust. Jim came highly recommended by more than a few people. He gave me a very reasonable quote that was itemized so I knew exactly what the cost would be. On top of that, he delivered the car exactly when he said it would be done. He's timely, efficient, extremely knowledgeable, and friendly to boot. If you stop by and speak with him, you'll know exactly what I mean. More recently, he helped me through a big jam. My dealership said they could help me install a new headlight system. With their encouragement and confidence in their ability to install the system, I went ahead and bought it. They tried to install it and told me everything was fine. Within five minutes of driving off the lot, I found that the lights didn't work. My dealership couldn't give me a reasonable explanation as to why and said to wait until it gets dark to see if it will work by then. Meanwhile, it's Saturday and the earliest they could help me fix it would be Monday. I immediately went to go see Jim because of how reliable he is. I'm providing this back story so you can see the bind I was in and how Jim went out of his way to make sure that my car was safe and driveable. I stopped by that same Saturday afternoon right before he closed. He came in the next day, Sunday, a day his shop was closed, just to look at my car. On top of that, he did some research on the headlight system to make sure he could give me the most knowledgeable opinion possible. All of this, he did without asking for a penny. He went out of his way to help a person he hardly knew. This is Jim. On Monday, I called my dealership with the information that Jim had given me, and they immediately turned me away. All of a sudden, they decided they could not install my headlight system correctly. Jim was there that same afternoon to work overtime on my car past his shop's open hours and had my car ready that same evening. If my dealership had made the repairs, they would have charged me for new parts (my original parts mysteriously disappeared) and labor, which would most likely have run me close to or over $1,000 and would have taken several days to fix. Jim was able to make repairs at a small fraction of the cost that same day. In the end, Jim is the best. He'll talk you through every step of the repair, provide an itemized estimate, and will offer you the best service possible. He's honest, upfront, and friendly, which can be hard to find these days. I Couldn't more highly recommend Jim. After getting a $700 estimate to fix a minor scratch on the front bumper of my SUV from another auto body shop down the street, I decided to get an estimate from Jim. In 5 minutes Jim was able to fix the scratch by rubbing some finish reconditioner on the affected area and wouldn't even allow me to pay him!!! I am so pleased with the experience I just had. A couple weeks ago there was a very windy day in the area. Someone opened their door into my car in a parking lot and left a note (thankfully!). I took my car to a body shop near my house and they quoted me over $400 for labor and basically a new panel. I decided to take it to a second place to see what their estimate was and to ask, if I didn't fix it, if the dent would cause rusting. After one look at my car, Jim walked back into his shop and come out and rubbed the scratches away with a compound finish. All that was left was a minuscule dent that he said he could fix by paintless dent repair if I wanted for about $30, but the dent was so small it wasn't even worth it! Jim refused to let me pay for his time or removing the scratches and even told me about the product he used so I can get marks off my car myself.
